Hi chaps I would be grateful if someone could recommend an mp3 site other than mp3.com. Basically I want to load up my own files to make them available to the masses. I have found mp3.com rather frustrating ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/mad.gif) to deal with, so would prefer to use someone else. Any suggestions? Nigel

Just off the top of my head, I can think of www.soundclick.com , www.iuma.com , www.besonic.com , www.garageband.com . There are many others. Let me do some research and I'll get back to this thread with more. ------------------ Later, Pat

I use IUMA Nigel. You can access the Artists Only section by clicking on my IUMA link at the foot of this message. That takes you through the set up sytem pretty painlessly. basically you downloed a song in mp3 along with your spiel, set up the visuals and hit the go button . Several of the TWS and JPF regulars use it as it alws streaming in both RA and mp3 along with mp3 downloading. They went through a tough patch a while ago but is now back to swinging full bore again. Even better i think. Hope this helps. Regards. Graham ------------------ http://artists2.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/Graham_Henderson/

Pat/Paul/Graham Thanks very much for taking the trouble to list these sites for me, I really appreciate it. I think this thread could prove very useful to people like me who are just starting an mp3 site. Just for information I chose Soundclick in the end. The upload and approval process was very straight forward. If you would like to check out my site it is http://www.soundclick.com/bands/papagato_music.htm there is only one song on there at the moment (a co-write with Tink). Cheers Nige

Hey NigeQ Just curious as what you didn't like about mp3???? I use mp3:IUMA:Rollingstone.com:garageband I feel the more places to be heard the better, with mp3 I have even made $$$ not anymore as I wont pay more than my monthly web site hosting for a few cents a day ( but they still do a free page!!)

Hi Empire , sorry it’s taken me two months to reply, but better late than never! The problem with mp3.com was twofold, firstly they ‘lost’ an uploaded song, Secondly their ‘help’ desk took a week to respond to my query and basically say “try it again”. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they treat their paying customers with a little more respect. There are enough JPFers using the site and I don’t see too many complaints. Brian, I have been well pleased with Soundclick. I was looking for a site similar to mp3.com with 24kbs lo-fi, 128 kbs hi-fi and downloads. Everything was really straightforward and intuitive to set up. Once a song is uploaded, the hi-fi and lo-fi versions are immediately playable, this is all I want from a site really at this point in time. When I first joined Soundclick a couple of months ago listeners had to use Windows Media Player but now the site has upgraded so that you can use your preferred mp3 player. By the way well done on the JPF MP3 site, good work. Nige ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif)

Bumping this thread up to the top. Have any new, good mp3 sites come online in the last few months, that you'd like to tell us about?

Dear Nigel:
I was just curious to know what kind of fees are involved with the MP3 listings:
1) Is the cost based on how many songs you list - or, are you looking at a flat rate per week/month?
2) Did you find the rates varied from one site to another?
3) Lastly, does your fee schedule change based on the number of plays your listings receive?
Appreciate your input when time permits.
Thanks much,
Marian

Hi Marian I’m afraid I can’t answer your questions fully but I’ll tell you what I do know. For Soundclick there is no charge and the only bearing the number of play/downloads has is chart position. As far as I know mp3.com have a free element and a pay element. I am sure you can find out the fees by checking the site. I think most (if not all) of the other mp3 sites mentioned previously are free, but maybe someone else would be able to give that info. On mp3.com they do pay back some fees depending on how many plays a song gets. How much I don’t know, again perhaps someone with an active mp3.com account could answer this. Hope this is of some use.
