NEW YORK CITY - April 5, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE On April 16th, Dreamship will release Ancestral Voyage, their groundbreaking rock debut album. Timothy Martin and Ed Schaum have forever changed the way artists create music together. Ancestral Voyage is the world's first complete album composed, arranged, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered entirely via the internet! In fact, Martin and Schaum have never even met each other. But they wrote and played this entire album together, even though they were 2,000 miles apart the whole time. Ancestral Voyage is a concept album that weaves complex arrangements and majestic sound with mainstream rock music. The music alternates between driving rock anthems and delicate passages, and tells a story that you won't soon forget. Tracks from the album have already been featured on several leading internet radio stations, NYC news outlets will feature the story just prior to release, and Rolling Stone has expressed interest in hearing more. Additional information can be found at the band's site at http://dreamship.org or by contacting the band's management at info@dreamship.org Dreamship - Touching the Future.

Ed,
Sounds like a cool project. I've heard of lots of people who have done albums this way over the last 3 years. I am wondering why they are so convinced they are the first? The technologies have been out there a while to do it.

Yes, it is not such a unique thing for people to work through the net these days.
However, with this one, no one in the band has ever met, no studios were used, the entire thing -concept, writing, mixing, and even manufacturing, was done by complete strangers over the wire.

Ed,
I understand. It's a cool thing, but it's been done a lot before. Even before the technology existed to do it via digital files, people used to exchange tapes. But for several years people have been doing this kind of stuff. I think Tonos has been using the technology pretty aggressively in the last couple years on their site for this type of collaboration as well.

Yep. Skip and I have been doing pretty much the same thing since 1999. We use Roland VS880EX's and we don't have a way to send the files on line. (If there is a way, we'd sure like to know about it.) We live about 2000 miles apart and send the files on disc through the good ol' USPS...
So we don't exist anywhere but on the internet either. In the end I suppose, how it's done has to take second place to what you've managed to create.
I'll try to give a listen later on. No speakers at work.

Well, I guess it's possible that we might have to modify the exact phrase in order to avoid any pitfalls... Maybe "First blatant attempt to use the internet album concept as a marketing hook"...from NY and Texas...named Ed and Tim... We're talking about it, so that can't be all bad either. Thanks for the feedback, it's appreciated. Critiques on the music are welcome also, there are clips on cd street and mp3.com. For the next one, we might try to bring in 3 more people, I'm sure that will complicate matters considerably! Ed

Congratulations. It wasn't created on the Internet, but I managed to get a friend's music in an award-winning short movie after following a lead in a newsgroup. The director (David Brooks) liked it, and the film "Member" is now available online (and the music exclusively so). So that's pretty virtual as well, I should think.
