Sorry, I know this isn't anything unusual for many of the excellent writers of jpf, but I've just learned that my song 'Follow Your Star' is sitting at #12 in the Traditional Country chart at Soundclick. For me, this is really significant!
By the way, another jpf-er, Shelia (sqbaum) is also in the top 20 with her 'Runaway Girl'. You know, if we set our minds to it, we could end up with with the whole top 20 populated by jpf! (apologies to any others who may be there, I'm a little rusty on recognising names yet!
I'd love it if you'd have a look at the post on the MP3 board.

I was deeply into folk myself for a long time, must resurrect some of my stuff from those days. It would be interesting to find out how they'd be received these days (lots of protest/political comment stuff).

Don't mention it. As the jpf slogan says "We're all in this together". Heven't yet checked the chart today but I expect, as you say, it don't last for long so enjoy it whilst you can! I think the answer may be to get another track onto Soundclick quickly before people move on to another 'flavour of the week'!!

Gotta get some new ones up there to generate interest - but I have had around 500 plays this month. To answer your question - I gig as often as I can in various configurations - a cover band, and original band, solo, and sitting in as a sideman with friends. Sometimes its multiple nights in a week and others I won't get out for a week or two. Its always fun, and sometimes the pay is even worthwhile. Marty: I know what you mean about the link, but I had already put it on the MP3 board and didn't want to appear too pushy by also including it here. (Oh dear - does that mean I'm not cut out to be in this business?). I guess I just missed the point that everyone isn't like me. I thought "put the track on the MP3 board for people to listen to and critique. Put the 'fun' comment about Soundclick chart position on the Songwriter board and see who else has been there."

Get pushy Bernie. Copy your music page to your clipboard and make it a clickable signature on every post you do anywhere. Make it an auto signature on every e-mail you send. You will be surprised how your listens will jump. And from the most unexpected places too. Promotion is the key. And the net is the best one we have after doing as good a job of our songs as we can. Do rememebr tact too though. That is also good PR. No Monster graphics or begging e-mails to all in your address book. They'll find you if you promote yopurself well in the forums. Bernie - Including links isn't pushy. Folks have the option of clicking on it or not. For those who do want to check it out, it saves a few steps in bouncing around to find what you were looking for. And like Graham said, signatures that give folks a chance to link are not considered offensive either.
