OK OK so it's NOT a real challange, with prizes and whistles. Only me wondering if there's anybody out their doing midi arrangements who'd tackle one I'm searching for.
Believe me, IF this tune is on-line it must be hunkerd down beneath some big cyber-rock.

Haven't found it in 8 yrs of looking so...

Bill Joel's "Keepin' the faith".
I't's my fav BJoel tune. I'd love to sing it on the job. I just need a player to toss me a good midi.

I'm hopeful...

Peace, Slick

From time to time, I've encountered companies online that will do a midi arrangement of anything you want, for a fee. I don't recall what the fee is, and I don't recall the names of any of these outfits, but I'll bet you could find one out there if you look.

Good luck.

Hey Slick,
I could do it for ya. We could figure out a trade or I could see how long it takes me and we could see what a reasonable hourly rate would be.
What midi set up do you have. I could save as "midi" file or just burn it onto a cd. I wouldn't want to do it exactly likes billy, I'd rather put it to your style how you would want it.
When midi first came out I was in a three piece midi band. We did all the horns and extra percussion with a Roland MC-500 and sometimes Keys when I'd play guitar. Let me
know.

If I can find the sheet music or a detailed lead sheet, I can do a bass and drum track at least for you I would think.
Probably Piano fills too probably.
Only takes an hour or so for a slow reader like me to do using Pro Jammer.
You could probably do it yourself with the software.
Jus a matter of feeding in the progression, styles, tempo and away ya go.
Hit compose and keep doing so until you get it how you want.
Then save to midi.
www.soundtrek.com gets you to the free trial thing.
Dead easy.
I do all my backing tracks for any standards I do the odd times I sing out.

Thanks folks...

Just a couple of things.
1. No money so I'm looking for a gift or a talent trade-off.

2. Graham... I'll look into the sheet music thing. You say it's fairly easy to transpose print to midi?! Sounds interesting.

Peace, J

ps: wondering, does anyone know any REAL midi search sites, one that doesn't give you the same old large site hits. I notice that some midi sites never turn up on a SEARCH. hmmm...

Yep Dead easy Slick . Just put the tempo, and key on the blank page. Type the chords in what bar and beat they come in. When ya get to the end put thepunch out arrow there.
Take the cursor back to bar one and select the band style you ant to start withand also tel it you want a certain drum style if you want, and hit compose.
Listen takin note of whee you may ant to alter to a diferant band style, say syc bass to walking and stuff and the just change them whenever you want.
Every time you do a compose, you get a variation of what you did last.
Do yourself a favour and click that lonk I put there.
I noticed on open Mike yesterday, there were three at least songs o there that I know were done with a Jammer backing bed.
Check out the latest take of my Shel Shock on either Soundclick or The Ramp.
That is just Jammer bass and drums with me singing over it and Jeff Flegler laying all th guitar on post sing.
I finished three other backings fo him last night also.
And this morning got a cal from a girl for the backing to my latest thing Watch The Door On You Butt.
key sn't rigjht fo rher so i just hit the transpose button and send it to her i the new key.
or even easier. save it as midi and e-mail that to her so sh can take that to the studio o a flopp and they can work out what key they want it i there and audio it.

I thanked you Michael, and passed comment onwhat I found rthere.
Not a shot fired whatsoever.
I smply stated n opinion on what I fgound there.
jammer will decidely give way better midi tracks than any I heard there, with a bit of creative mouse, and or keyboard work.

I just found somethning new I didn't know could be done with Jammer, and that is if you select a bass and a few of the rhythm tracks od any midi in track view of jammer and then go to measured view and tell it to write a chord progression from that, it will do so, and it then becomes editable as a CMP file.
This means, no matter how bad your keybard playng may be, you can bang out a midi of your idea, and then send it off to Jammer and keep on composing, an changing styles and genre in there until it rings ya bell.
Now I think that s something else.
Want to do something differant with an old standard? Seems the way to start to me.
I have floppies full of rough old midis i made before I got Jammer that are about to come out of mothballs I tell ya.
Imay even try some of those midi I downloaded the other day tosee if silk purses from sow's ears are indeed now possible.

Righto.
I decided to make the title tel the truth.
Well maybe.
And the challenge is.
An Instrumental on my Soundclick called Not Quite Nothing, is In E and it is the audio of a thing I made in Soundtrek Jammer Pro 5 using it's newly discovered. for me anyway. ability to figure chord progressions from midi so an editable CMP fike can be made as the first step of creating either your own backing for the midi, or even better a backing treack for one of your own lyrics.
Figure out what popular song I used as a foundati0on for this.
That is the challange.
I did change a few chords around.
And also did some chopping the length to fit what I am working toward..
And it was was so fun too.
Graham
