In the Creative Challenge Forum, John suggested writing a song about “AI indoctrination”. I have to confess, I first had to look up what that even meant. This song is about how artificial intelligence is slowly creeping into our lives while many of us barely notice it happening. Not exactly an easy topic to turn into a song. I’ve always loved The Rocky Horror Picture Show and wanted to write something in that theatrical glam-rock world. Not sure I got everything right, but I gave it my best shot. And yes… I used an AI version of my own voice on the track, which probably says more than anything else I could write. I hope you like my song. AI Indoctrinationhttps://soundclick.com/song/15258511 [Instrumental Intro] [Verse] Daddy worked the rail yard, momma worked the school We learned from dusty Bibles and the evening news Now my phone keeps tellin’ me, what I oughta think Every swipe gets deeper till I’m too tired to blink [Verse] Used to chase the truth down a backroad FM dial Now it comes pre-packaged in a never-ending file Everybody’s talkin’, but it don’t feel the same Like a thousand borrowed voices callin’ out my name [Pre-chorus] They’re sellin’ truth in a perfectly coded sensation Feeding hearts through algorithm conversation [Chorus] We’re caught up in AI indoctrination Cold blue light across the nation Tellin’ me who I should love Who to hate and who’s above A little screen in my hand Tryin’ to rewrite who I am Everybody wants salvation We’re caught up in AI indoctrination [Break] [Verse] Used to bleed a heartbreak in a downtown studio Now a machine writes a hit in a minute or so Neon words on a screen, no calloused hands on strings Just a shortcut to the feeling that a real voice brings [Verse] Grandpa says the jukebox used to bring us all around Now strangers fightin’ strangers in a digital ghost town You can buy a face, a voice, a whole new point of view Half the things we’re hearin’ now ain’t even true [Pre-chorus] They’re bottlin’ freedom in a polished simulation Trading soul for speed and mass duplication [Chorus] We’re caught up in AI indoctrination Cold blue light across the nation Tellin’ me who I should love Who to hate and who’s above A little screen in my hand Tryin’ to rewrite who I am Everybody wants salvation We’re caught up in AI indoctrination [Bridge] Maybe we unplug, let the silence breathe Put the phones away and believe what we see A sunset don’t need filters to shine And a real good song still sounds just fine [Interlude] [Final chorus] We’re caught up in AI indoctrination Cold blue light across the nation Tellin’ me who I should love Who to hate and who’s above A little screen in my hand Tryin’ to rewrite who I am Everybody wants salvation We’re caught up in AI indoctrination [Outro] Turn down the noise and turn off the persuasion We’re more than AI indoctrination

Not really it's an adjustment to life , like the telephone was when it was introduced . Can't stop progress. I have mixed feelings over AI . The song reminds of the 666 guy and taking the mark .And how fear dictates into society, on new inventions .

Ai indoctrination is too clumsy of a word, sometimes a word like that sings, that doesnt.
And you're being too literal
Daddy worked the rail yard, momma worked the school We learned from dusty Bibles and the evening news Now my phone keeps tellin’ me, what I oughta think Every swipe gets deeper till I’m too tired to blink
The first two lines have nothing to do with the second two.
What does daddy working railroads, or mom working school, have to do with your phone telling you how to think?
Didn't the Bible tell you how to think?
Used to chase the truth down a backroad FM dial Now it comes pre-packaged in a never-ending file Everybody’s talkin’, but it don’t feel the same Like a thousand borrowed voices callin’ out my name
Again, none of this relates to the other, and none of it points to the hook, which is the idea of it
Theres not alot of fluidity in your words, its ackeard reading it
If your trying to say times have changed. That's fine. Ive written several .
Your chorus, again all unrelated withiut effort to try to syrung it together.
My advice is to write about one specific thing, snd follow it all the way through.
Trying to make too many points, and none of them come thriugh
The music is not my thing but it all is disconnected e ct3d

The music is not my thing but it all is disconnected e ct3d Dom, The song was written more like a theatrical glam-rock piece than a traditional tightly-focused country lyric, so I leaned more into mood, imagery, and exaggeration than linear storytelling. The contrast between “real-world upbringing” and “digital influence” was intentional. The lines do relate to each other, even if you personally didn’t connect with them. A lot of people actually understood exactly what I was going for. And you’re right — “AI indoctrination” is definitely a clumsy phrase to sing. That was part of the challenge that interested me in the first place. Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment.

Theres not one clear cut line that says. How life is changing for the worse because of Ai. Dom, I understand you don’t think the song works, and that’s fine. Not every style or approach connects with everybody. You've probably never heard of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The connections and themes in the lyrics were intentional, and plenty of listeners understood what I was going for, even if you didn’t connect with it personally. At the end of the day, songwriting is subjective.

Hey Ben, it looks like you fully understood the song. Great feedback. Thanks! A lot of people love the message and agree that our future will be different. Dom doesn't get it. That's ok. That happens sometimes. He also didn't like the theatrical glam-rock idea. He's not the only one there.

Dom gets it, its just bad writing, which Rob doesn't get Dom, this song was written for a songwriting challenge ( https://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbth...ct-writing-today-s-word.html#Post1215218). John suggested writing a song about “AI indoctrination.” The goal wasn’t really to create a big Top 10 hit — the challenge was simply to write a song around that concept. I gave it a shot and came up with this. You say it’s bad. Fair enough. But why not try writing a song about AI indoctrination yourself? You might discover it’s not quite as easy as it sounds. At least for me, it wasn’t. Challenge yourself. Give it a try.

I think you need to first ascertain what ai indoctrination is. Appears its the use of Ai, to evoke emotions in the reader/viewer/listener, to manipulate . I dont think you can write the song until its clear what it means

I dont think you can write the song until its clear what it means The internet, social media and AI are reconfiguring the manners in which human brains perceive and process information. It is a re-structuring. Once something can structure how-you-think, then those who control it can use it to tell you what-to-think. Indoctrination.

I dont think you can write the song until its clear what it means Dom, your responses are getting boring. In my song announcement (at the top of this thread) I wrote that I looked it up, what AI indoctrination meant. I already did that so you don't have to make a suggestion like that.

Dom, I think we simply approach songwriting differently. My lyric intentionally uses concrete imagery and contrasts everyday human experiences with digital influence. Yours leans much more toward abstract concepts and poetic phrasing. It's not really a song, just 8 lines and there's no "furniture". People usually connect more deeply with concrete images than with abstract terminology. You said my song doesn’t clearly show how AI affects people’s lives, but lines like: “Little screen in my hand, tryin’ to rewrite who I am” or “Now a machine writes a hit in a minute or so” are actually very direct examples of that. Your lyric suggests anxiety, or artificial stimulation, but it doesn’t clearly state how AI is negatively changing life in a concrete or relatable way. “Get high from neon sensations”: Interesting phrase, but it’s vague. Is it about screens? Addiction? Media? Nightlife? Dopamine? Nobody really knows. At the end of the day, some listeners will connect more with abstraction, others with imagery and storytelling. That’s part of what makes songwriting subjective. I could give you more feedback if you would write a whole song instead of just a couple of lines.

No Rob, it doesn't work, its bad writing, whether I personally get it or not.
I understand what your trying to do, but that doesnt make it good
Theres not one clear cut line that says. How life is changing for the worse because of Ai. Dom, I understand you don’t think the song works, and that’s fine. At the end of the day, songwriting is subjective. Again, its not done, its the chorus, the verses are for filling in the dots. Daddy at railroads and mom at school, are images yes, barely, but have nothing to do with Ai indoctrination. It may have to do with change of worlds, things are much different than those simple times. But it has nothing to do with the process of being groomed into like minded people

But it has nothing to do with the process of being groomed into like minded people Dom, You keep saying my lines have “nothing to do” with AI indoctrination, but the connection is actually very intentional. The railroad and school lines establish a more grounded, human upbringing before contrasting it with a world where phones, algorithms, and digital systems increasingly influence what people think, feel, and pay attention to. That contrast is the entire point of the lyric. And I’m using “indoctrination” in a broader sense than just political grooming. Recommendation algorithms, social media echo chambers, AI-curated content, digital persuasion, and identity shaping all play into the idea. You don’t think the metaphor works, which is perfectly fair. But saying the lines are unrelated isn’t the same thing. What does “Get high from neon sensations” mean?

Again, its not done, its the chorus, the verses are for filling in the dots.
Daddy at railroads and mom at school, are images yes, barely, but have nothing to do with Ai indoctrination.
It may have to do with change of worlds, things are much different than those simple times.
But it has nothing to do with the process of being groomed into like minded people Dom, You keep saying my lines have “nothing to do” with AI indoctrination, but the connection is actually very intentional. And it is a bitt going for style points. But its interesting. If you dont think so, that's fine.. I dont think im great either But your examples/images are pathetically bad. Friends won't ever tell you that, they literally dont know. But they know when a dong captures their interest. Im honestly trying to help you along. If you dont think i know anything, then fine. But stop being a dick. We should all be hete for the same reason

We should all be hete for the same reason Dom, I’ve been polite throughout this discussion and repeatedly said that we simply approach songwriting differently. I never said your writing was bad, and I acknowledged that different listeners connect with different styles. But you keep insisting my lyrics are “pathetically bad,” that they “don’t work,” and now you’re making personal comments and insulting me. That’s not constructive feedback anymore! At this point, I’m going to step away from the discussion because it’s no longer productive. Good luck finishing your song. Maybe someone else is willing to comment your 8 lines, I doubt it.

"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
