Decade low against the Swiss Franc, 3 year low against the Euro...Canadian dollar up too Maybe so. The stock market was due for a correction from the high regardless of who was president. 20% would be 36k. It is currently at 39k. Personally I consider 20% a needed correction to achieve a more stable footing. There will be other ramifications to a broad disruptive action. As for all of the other horrible things that may happen if Trump isnt stopped right now? The choice for many of us is a continuation of the downward spiral and bifurcation of wealth that Nancy Pelosi clearly laid out in the video posted, versus letting a president such as Trump see what he can do about it. Foreign interests and incurable TDS patients are all screaming that it is the road to hell. But there are many of us in the US who have said for decades, that we are already on the road to hell. The "rust belt" alone is proof. Let's see what ACTUALLY happens when Trump tries to get us off of the road to hell. Buckle up. Marty

Years ago, I read Milton Friedman's book and assumed he was right.
Then, I heard what Ross Perot had to say and was concerned about his concerns.
Then I heard what Trump had to say back in the 80s, and agreed with what I heard.
Strangely enough, I find myself listening harmoniously to Nancy Pelosi of 1996.
Understand my POV...
I think you are a nice man, but I am not concerned with reading anything that supports your position at this time.
At this point,
Trump is president. He has the pen and the office behind him.
He will do what he does and the other forces out there will do what they do.
My opinion is irrelevant. So is yours.
We are just spectators, privy to no factual occurrences and in-no-rooms. Very short on personal knowledge of international trade. Reliant on other people who are mostly just conjecturing. 99% of them arent in-the-room either.
In your case, Trump is not even the president of your country.
Given all that and given that the wheels are in motion, my only reasonable position is to watch Trump and his people, and hope that they achieve an outcome that is desirable for my country.
I understand that you feel the same about your country.

. John My assumption is that you would not be offering an opinion that did not buttress yours in some way. It would break an uninterrupted pattern if you did. Am I wrong about that? If so, I may take a look at it. "He will do what he does and the other forces out there will do what they do." John, this person that you are pointing me at is one of what will be thousands of "other forces" contributing to the outcome of Trump's effort to balance the US trade deficits. The other day, the DOW swung up 3000 points in a day. I had no idea that was coming. Seems no one did. I only saw it once the image was in my rear view mirror. The reason? Because there is a mountain of sh+t going on that is out of my view. At this point, as I said, I am personally aligned with Trump's basic position on US trade deficits. I'm buckled up and expecting turbulence regarding actual events yet to occur...and waiting for images to appear in my rear view mirror. That's all I have for you John.

Why don't any of you ever talk about "fair trade" at the employee/consumer level. If necessity is the mother of invention, then why does only 5% of the population visibly profit from productivity? Seems to me that the "paycheck to paycheck" class (the other 95%) are never the ones starting trade wars or crashing the stock market...

Oren Cass or anyone ACTUALLY involved in the negotiations does not wait to hear my opinion. Trump has stated the direction that he has in mind. I'm good with it as broad strokes. I don't expect him to trounce the opposition at every encounter. He knows better than anyone alive that nothing is over until its over. So you and Rob can tinkle in your pants at the start of every day based on something that Trump said the night before. Count me out on that. Count yourself out on having any real idea where all the twists and turns will be or having any idea who the players involved will be...but know that it will twist and turn. And yes, at this point, I am good with Trump's leadership on this. AI and robotics are revolutionizing the world. Humans are going to be less necessary. There will be a lot of new plants built and old plants retrofitted. Trump wants them built in the US, for a lot of reasons. So do I and many others here. Getting that done means creating an atmosphere where CEOs are afraid not to. He creates uncertainty and then he gives them a path to certainty. Of course, you are against anything he wants to do, regardless of what. That has become background noise. Reality and outcomes are the focus now. The border was brought under control. Objective met. For some of you, I am very sorry to have to report that the DOW is up 185 points at this moment on this morning.
I know that is disappointing news and does not buttress the Trump-is-doom narrative that you clutch.

I know that is disappointing news and does not buttress the Trump-is-doom narrative that you clutch.
