Not even close. You are a brand new experience. John Brown slaughtered people in Kansas in the name of God..but I doubt that he spoke like you seem to be so proud of. You are like some kind of "Deliverance" Christian, cussing and tawkin' bout pretty mouths and all. wink

And yep, that is coming from an agnostic.

Martydom,
My integrity as a Christian is not subject to agnostic sophistry...

Why are you so determined to crap on this thread?

Why do you enjoy provoking me?

Answer to your question:
Because your blatant and unrepentant hypocrisy is a fascination. Probing you to see how you think is a fascination. It's hard for me not to. Curious mind.

As far as crapping on this thread?
Your RANT SECTION is nothing but crap. And you have turned this thread into crap also. And you engage the coarseness, provacateering (word?) and name calling full-on, yet display adamant righteous indignation all the while. That also is fascinating. I never got this close a look at a mind like yours before.

You are a fascination. I started out college with the intent of becoming a psychiatrist. A year and a half into it, I decided I didn't want to deal with round the clock crazy people, or rich people that paid you to watch them piss down their leg, with indulgence. Switched to architecture.

But I never lost my curiosity about all of that. You are fascinating.

I turned this thread into crap...? Look again.

For someone so adamantly opposed to "THE RANT ARENA", you clearly go out of your way to crap wherever I post. I suppose you think that's clever...

I find no fascination with you at all.

I don't need to look again.
You adamantly insist on having a RANT SECTION at a songwriting site, with no-holds-barred, yet when I dump on one your posts...the denial and righteous indignation shows up.

You are fascinating. I'm fine with you thinking that I am not.

Night night Tony.

Then why stalk me, Martydom?
Doesn't it make more sense to exercise your uncontrollable compulsions in the intended place?

Or, is "fascination" really a polite way of saying... "sitting at my computer with some lotion and a hand towel"?

Lotion and a hand towel?...people write what they know.

And Madonna, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston and you have stalkers? And I am your stalker?
Another viewpoint is that you stalk this entire song site with your demands for Tony's uninhibited self expressions about politics, religion and whatever else fires within you.
Anyways, if I stalked you, it is not my fault. Baphomet made me do it. I am a victim. Your "kiss my Christian a$$" post caught my eye and I framed it, which is how this particular episode started. But Baphomet invaded my being and compelled me to frame it. When I have time, I'm going to get an exorcism done. Maybe next week.

But I will make YOU a deal going forward from here...
I will leave your posts completely alone, no matter where they occur and what you say. Though I may decide that they are so toxic that I withdraw from this site again.

And, in return, you, stay out of any postings that I originate.
That is a stop-the-bleeding agreement. Can you agree to that?

The world seems full of bad news, time to find things to smile/laugh about or be grateful for.....soooo...

Good news, any good news, or a joke, funny clips ect.......go here.

I'll kick it off,

Well, if you're going to try to flex your "Mod muscle", you should do the right thing and give credit where credit is due!

I'm not a moderator, so I'm not sure what you mean by Mod Muscle...All I am asking is that we use this thread to report good news items. and nothing else

Yes. I just read through it...started off really well. Difficult to sustain that simple innocent thing. I visited maccharles band camp :

listened to we woke up.

Whoa nice sound.

The principle of Occam's razor is generally attributed to William of Ockham (also spelled Occam) (c. 1285 - 1348), an English theologian, logician, and Franciscan friar. smile

Cool you know about it.

The corollary is that "the more complicated the explanation, the less likely it is to be true"

BTW it has a longer history going back to ancient Greece...was articulated and widely used by Ockham and therefore "popularized" by him.

Kinda like Jesus' Golden Rule. It is actually expressed in most faiths ...some older, some younger than Christianity.

Yes weight loss and diet are important. But insulin is truly a wonder drug. My wife wouldn't have made it through her teenage years without it. She found out she had diabetes when she went into a coma, with a blood sugar of 1200. She's always been thin and watched her diet.

John smile

Insulin is not a drug...

JLS, your wife's condition is a perfect example of why the general public should seriously re-examine the claim that diabetes has become an epidemic. If you CAN manage your blood sugar with diet and exercise... then you don't NEED insulin/medication. If all you have to do is diet and exercise, then your NOT diabetic.

This may be the single most offensive and ignorant thing you have ever said. It IS a DRUG (man made, created by making a human compatible artificial insulin) that replaced another controlled drug extracted from Cows and Pigs islet cells then processed into and distributed with a prescription medical DRUG, which was then the closest thing to human that worked as TYPE 1 DIABETES has absolutely ZERO to do with TYPE 2 DIABETES!

They never should have shared the name, that condition was about not using the insulin being produced. Type 1 Diabetics produce ZERO insulin, usually from a very young age due to the bodies immune system attacking and destroying all the islet cells. It most happens in children, rarely in adults over 20. It shares NOTHING with type 2 diabetes which IS an epidemic. It is intentionally ramped up by poisons in our food and water and overall environment. I am a Type 1 Diabetic, I got in the best shape of my entire life, while playing College Football, freshman year. I lost weight all summer when I NEEDED it, until I was sub 180 (after being recruited by Nebraska to play Offensive Line, with ZERO extra fat on my body). I went from super muscular 240 to 180 in 3 months, nothing I could do would stop it. Then I went blind. Then they figured it out. I was 1270 and likely would have been dead within a day. It took them almost a week of no food, only water to get my levels down to safe. Sadly, unlike most type 1 diabetic, I have gained a lot of weight beyond even my football weight, though it is true that most living diabetics are under weight. I have idiots who think I must be Type 2 and try to lecture me (after 42 years of being an insulin dependent Type 1 diabetic) and I hear all these idiots who can't be bothered to do a single simple websearch on Diabetes to see there are two unrelated types. But now you have solved the medical mystery and can save our lives even though I'd be dead in less than 24 hours without CONSTANT insulin flowing into me via a pump. That is a FACT.

I see how you drive people nuts, but this level of laziness I didn't realize. LOOK IT UP!

My issue is with the FDA and big pharma, Brian. Not actual diabetics!
Do you have any idea how easy it is to synthesize insulin today!?
WHY IS IT STILL SO DAMN EXPENSIVE!
AND WHY IS "EVERYONE" SUDDENLY DIABETIC AND IN NEED OF MEDICATION!?

John,
I'm not trying to diminish your wife's very serious condition.

However, insulin is only considered "medication" because big pharma makes big money selling it to those who need it. Personally, I believe it's a crime.

"Insulin is a naturally occurring hormone your pancreas makes that's essential for allowing your body to use sugar (glucose) for energy. If your pancreas doesn't make enough insulin or your body doesn't use insulin properly, it leads to high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia). This results in diabetes."

Take a breath, Brian!
The cost of Insulin today should be comparable to Ibuprofen!

Not true at all, you can buy generic ibuprofen for 1.25 at dollar tree 30 caps.

You don't have that luxury when injecting a drug under skin. It has to be a much higher quality sterile and pure.

Your right that it's overpriced. As are all drugs.

But basic difference between type 1 and type 2, type one you're pretty much born with, it's a defect right out of the gate.

Type 2 is usually acquired as years roll on so does the bodies inability to use insulin. And bad diet over time degrades the body

But if your doctor doesn't recognize that it's not just insulin you need, you can pour in all the insulin you like, if you have insulin resistance which is very likely with type 2, insulin is not very useful and harmful.

What Is Insulin Resistance?
People with insulin resistance, also known as impaired insulin sensitivity, have built up a tolerance to insulin, making the hormone less effective. As a result, more insulin is needed to persuade fat and muscle cells to take up glucose and the liver to continue to store it.

Just why a person fails to respond properly to insulin is still a mystery. But there are ways to make the body more receptive to insulin, which can help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes—or help someone with type 1 diabetes manage their blood glucose (blood sugar).

In response to the body's insulin resistance, the pancreas deploys more of the hormone to keep cells energized and manage blood glucose levels in a healthy range. This is why people with type 2 diabetes tend to have higher levels of circulating insulin. The ability of the pancreas to increase insulin production means that insulin resistance alone won't have any symptoms at first. Over time, though, insulin resistance tends to get worse, and the pancreatic beta cells that make insulin can wear out. Eventually, the pancreas no longer produces enough insulin to overcome the cells' resistance. The result is higher blood glucose levels, and ultimately prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.

Insulin has other roles in the body besides regulating blood glucose levels, and the effects of insulin resistance are thought to go beyond diabetes. For example, some research has shown that insulin resistance, independent of diabetes, is associated with heart disease.

What Causes Insulin Resistance?
Scientists are beginning to get a better understanding of how insulin resistance develops. For starters, several genes have been identified that make a person more or less likely to develop the condition. It's also known that older people are more prone to insulin resistance. Lifestyle can play a role, too. Being sedentary, overweight or obese increases the risk for insulin resistance. Why? It's not clear, but some researchers theorize that extra fat tissue may cause inflammation, physiological stress or other changes in the cells that contribute to insulin resistance. There may even be some undiscovered factor produced by fat tissue, perhaps a hormone, that signals the body to become insulin resistant.

Doctors don't usually test for insulin resistance as a part of standard diabetes care. In clinical research, however, scientists may look specifically at measures of insulin resistance, often to study potential treatments for insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes. They typically administer a large amount of insulin to a subject while at the same time delivering glucose to the blood to keep levels from dipping too low. The less glucose needed to maintain normal blood glucose levels, the greater the insulin resistance.

What Does It Mean for Your Health?
Insulin resistance comes in degrees. The more insulin resistant a person with type 2 is, the harder it will be to manage their diabetes because more medication is needed to get enough insulin in the body to achieve target blood glucose levels.

Insulin resistance isn't a cause of type 1 diabetes, but people with type 1 who are insulin resistant will need higher insulin doses to keep their blood glucose under control than those who are more sensitive to insulin. As with type 2, people with type 1 may be genetically predisposed to become insulin resistant, or they may develop resistance due to being overweight. Some research indicates that insulin resistance is a factor in cardiovascular disease and other complications in people with type 1.

Reduce Insulin Resistance: What Can You Do?
While it may not be possible to defeat insulin resistance entirely, there are ways to make the body’s cells more receptive to insulin.

Getting active is probably the best way to combat insulin resistance. Exercise can dramatically reduce insulin resistance in both the short and long terms. In addition to making the body more sensitive to insulin and building muscle that can absorb blood glucose, physical activity opens up an alternate gateway for glucose to enter muscle cells without insulin acting as an intermediary, reducing the cells' dependence on insulin for energy. While this doesn't reduce insulin resistance itself, it can help people who are insulin resistant improve their blood glucose control.
Weight loss can also cut down on insulin resistance. No single diet has been proved to be the most effective. Some evidence suggests, though, that eating foods that are low in fat and high in carbohydrates can worsen insulin resistance. Research has also shown that people who undergo weight-loss surgery are likely to become significantly more sensitive to insulin.
No medications are specifically approved to treat insulin resistance. Yet diabetes medications like metformin and thiazolidinediones, or TZDs, are insulin sensitizers that lower blood glucose, at least in part, by reducing insulin resistance.
Don’t Give Up
While fighting an invisible foe can feel frustrating and discouraging, know that you are not alone. There are effective tactics to combat insulin resistance. Losing weight, exercising more or taking an insulin-sensitizing medication can help you get back to good blood glucose control and better health.

Type 1 Diabetes is something that needs lifelong treatment

Type 2 comes from bad dietary habits that include ingesting too much sugar.
Regulating that intake is hard because it is everywhere and insuling resistance comes about because your it gets harder and harder to pack more fat into your cells
BTW the result of a political decision that decided between sugar and fat as the bad guy in a diet somewhere back around 1960 if memory serves me.
The decision was controversial but won and by the sugar industry ...which had then and continues to lobby politically and influence the public into thinking it is good for you
...... by funding so called scientific conclusions experts continue to debate

You have heard of intermittent fasting I am sure
Essentially you compress "good eating" within a daily 8 hour window.
With Type 2 diabetes, the sugar levels will come down.

But of course there are now drugs to do the same..bring sugar levels down

So you can choose. eat lots of sugar and take drugs to counter the effects
or
intermittently fast and reduce sugar

You WILL lose weight and your long term sugar levels will slide below the diagnosis threshold.

Now I am sure it will not work with everyone and everyone should talk about it with their doctor.
Google Dr Jason Fung if you are interested in this at all.

YOU are the LAZY LOUDMOUTHED IDIOT (100% fact, not hyperbole) who stated that John's wife didn't need insulin. YOU were giving DEADLY advice (in your mentally invented qualifications to talk about a serious illness you didn't bother to simply GOOGLE and read a couple paragraphs about). It makes you an unreliable source on ANY topic because this is proof that you can't be bothered to make minimal effort to find the truth about anything. That discredits your rants on every topic, including those you may be right about. But who could trust you?

Rather than simply saying "sorry John, I didn't realize there were 2 distinct types of diabetes, and I am sorry to hear your wife has Type 1 which I was clearly ignorant about, really sorry" you just started ranting and added another post for more rants when it was ONLY YOU who were wrong and who caused all the nonsense. Rather than offer a similar mea culpa to me, now you are whining about people calling you out. YOU BROUGHT IT UP! You could have been a human and simply said "sorry to hear your wife is ill John" or if you thought maybe you had magical info she, her husband and doctors had never bothered to learn about all this time, you could have asked rational follow up questions.

I realize trying to have a rational, reasonable discussion with you is often pointless, but here is another chance for you to stop tripling down on your mistake, apologize for being misinformed, then get on track with whatever topic you intended.

Give it a try.

John,
Has there been a misunderstanding?
Do you believe that I actually suggested you should take your 77y/o type 1 diabetic wife off insulin?
