These lyrics just came to me yesterday evening and I recorded it today. About a little place in town where I hang out more than I should. In fact, I'm heading down there now LOL.

POUR CHOICES

(Words & Music by Gavin Sinclair)

Saturday night is the loneliest night
But every night's just the same
I get in my car, drive to the bar
And everybody knows my name
But I sit here alone, stare at my phone
I don't have much to say
One more beer, then I'm outta here
How'd it turn out this way

They call this bar Pour Choices
And yes, I guess I've made a few
What's done is done, my song is sung
What am I to do?

Misty pours me a pint "How're you doing tonight?"
I smile and answer, "Good as I can be."
But truth be told, I just feel old
Killing time here while time kills me
Over the bar there's a mirror
Where have I seen that face?
I recognize those weary eyes
Surprised to see me in this place

They call this bar Pour Choices
And yes, I guess I've made a few
What's done is done, my song is sung
What am I to do?

Saturday night is the loneliest night
But every night's just the same
I sit for a while and manage a smile
When Misty says she's glad I came
Say goodnight to the face in the mirror
Tomorrow I'll be back for more
To search for the past in an empty glass
And in everyone who walks through the door

They call this bar Pour Choices
And yes, I guess I've made a few
What's done is done, my song is sung
What am I to do?

When I read the title I grinned... I just knew that good 'ol Gav was about to make me laugh.

What's the matter? You still hung over from St Patti's? That green beer stain your teeth? wink

If you want to avoid annoying oversensitive Irish people, don't refer to the day as St. Patti's. It's Paddy, not Patti. Paddy is the contraction of Patrick because in Irish it's written Padraig, which is pronounced Pawrig but, the d is pronounced in the shortened version. Simple smile Of course, not being Irish, I don't care.

Actually, I'm not hung over. I find a finely judged degree of inebriation can help to get the creative juices flowing, but in this case I just hadn't written anything for a while and decided to start with a chord progression I liked instead of my usual technique of first coming up with the melody while drunk. With rare exceptions, I only do funny and sad, so probably back to funny next time!

I performed it last night at the real Pour Choices. The first line of the chorus got their attention when they realized the song was about where they were sitting LOL. And Misty liked it smile

I used to feel this way when I used to go to strip bars, like why am I here, it's not social at all, but your in a social setting.

I also used to gig at some dives, and this could be some of the few regulars anthem.

I think it's just makes you feel like your experiencing something by going out and having a drink. The faint possibilty of meeting someone , or to have somebody listen to you.

But it's a great title, I think it makes fior a great country song , with double hook and drinking of icourse.

I enjoyed

Gavin,

Among the things I've missed on this board are your inventive and creative lyrics. This one is no exception. I read the lyrics first and that was enjoyable just in itself. Terrific storytelling. The melody and production do the lyrics justice. "Killing time while time kills me"--wow, great, great line. This has a handful of true gems in it. Enjoyed the listen---the chorus stays with you more and more. Good stuff!

Gavin,
I missed this one too. Sorry. This is a great piece of storytelling. Your music is a perfect fit and allows the listener to focus on the story being told. Well done.

Among the things I've missed on this board is you, Deej smile Thanks for the kind words. That's actually a slightly older version of the song. I've uploaded the latest, but the tweaks are not major or noticeable enough to merit another listen LOL

Thanks for checking on me, Tony. It's been pretty rough. Had a couple of trees fall on my house, but they only caught the corner, so it could have been a lot worse. There are trees down everywhere and some of my friends were stuck for a few days but not a lot of serious flooding in the immediate area. Power is mostly back now. The real devastation starts about 20 miles west and northwest of here.
Did you catch any of the storm down there?

Nothing here, we lucked out!
I sure remember Atlanta during Catrina though...
Can't imagine what this storm must have been like.

Glad all is relatively well, Gav smile

Hey Gavin, I love the play on words in your title and then the song gets even better top to bottom. You have captured the loneliness as well as the liquid anesthesia poured in bars nightly all over the world
