Hi folks, I'm in a good dilemma and need advice. I have 4 artists who are all interested in cutting my song "Losing A Cowgirl". What do I do in this situation? Neither of them are "A" list artist, but very promising up and coming artists. I would be honored if any of them cut it. But is there a protocol to follow here? No "hold" has been put on the song thus far. Thanks for your help. Donna Dutchess

That is a dilemma we'd all like to be in. I'd say first come, first served. If they are small indie artist I'd let them all record it. They are likely not going to cross paths unless it becomes a smash hit country wide. Some songs get covered hundreds of times. Once it is out there, anyone can cut it as long as they pay the royalty. Big name artist may want an exclusive on it, but unknown artist don't have that luxury. Good luck with it.

Seven seconds of thought and; Ask them to 'cover' the Song and let you hear their product. That doesn't solve your problem of decision-making but gives you some possible criteria for making a decision. I'm betting someone will do a better job than others. I had CMT, Country Music Television, back when the world was young and noticed Diane Warren had about three artists all doing one of her Songs, the same Song, plus a couple other artists doing other Songs of hers, all at the same time. I think there were five. They each had one 'hit' playing. Diane had five. Aerosmith was one of the three same-Song 'coverers, crossing over to the Pop market. It may still be a tough decision to make; but it might 'weed out' the 'lesser' products and find the 'gold' one. Enjoy your wonderful dilemma. Oh, and...do it again! And again. Be prepared to do it again. One success may bring others or the not-selected ones coming back looking for more.

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

I think Trisha Yearwood was one of the three all doing the same Song at the same time.

Hi Donna! I'd want to hear some of each of their previous recordings. It should be much easier to decide after that. I'd decide on the one I thought would be best suited for the song. Best, John
