Hi everyone ... I used to be an active member, but somewhere along the way, got busy with other stuff ...

I recognise some of the names from the MP3 forum and look forward to reviewing some songs before posting any of mine.

It's nice to be back,

Hi, I'm Bob. I'm an engineer in Southern California, originally from Southern Indiana. Music has been a hobby all my life. I grew up playing a few instruments, even played in one of the Purdue Bands (Go Boilers). Fortunately, I found a couple music theory class which got me interested in writing songs/music. One of these days I will post something on the MP3 forum.

Hi Everyone,

Nice to meet you. I'm Lucy Miller, a nutrition student and passionate writer. I do hope you can help me finding some music for my therapy. Country music, relaxing music, any type of music that will lift up your soul.

Thanks,

Hi Lucy:

Sorry I am late... been out of town. Great to know you've discovered JPF. I have no doubt that Brian, our Founder, will respond ASAP. As you may have already observed, there are numerous "forums" about many music topics. If writing is of most interest to you, there are three lyrics forums and after you've scrolled down, found them and sampled each... the decision regarding which one to use is up to you. As far as I know, there are three simply to handle the volume of lyrics we share here.

Eventually, you will discover the MP3 Forum where members post their songs and compositions or instrumentals.

Other than that, you can discover quite a bit from following the "General Forum" where many topics and threads are posted.

Welcome aboard. Dive in, ask questions, post a lyric or simply lurk for a while as you learn how to navigate the site. Don't be shy... we have some great participants here willing to provide assistance.

Regards, ----Dave

Hello everybody,

I'm not new to JPF but it's been so many years I coulnd't remember my old login info. I'm Eric. At one time I made my living performing and recording but my passion has always been songwriting. Divorce and raising two young sons by myself from the ages of six and four made me sidetrack my aspirations for many years but now that they are grown and I find myself at a crossroads, I've decided to reignite the flame.

I look forward to the interaction!

Hello

I've been reading the JPF general forum daily for five or six years. At age 73 I've decided it's now time to get some of my songs a hearing and, of course, to listen to and coment on songs from other members.

Hi Dave...Thanks for the warm welcome, I will look around and see how things work around here and I will ask for help if I get stuck.
John and I have worked on quite a few songs over the last 2 years or so.

Hey yall,

My name is Tim Knecht, I'm from Susanville, CA (small prison town in North East Cally.) I've been writing music for about 7 years. Stick to the country/folk/blues format mostly. I write about traveling, relationships, my faith, depression, and just some story songs I make up. Lord willing, hoping to travel the states and pursue music full-time at the end of this year. Blessed to have found a place like this, and hope to get to know you all as time goes on smile

-Tim

Got some music on SoundCloud if you want to check it out. Nothin fancy, just my guitar and I through an SM57 lol.

Hi all,

I'm Ryan from San Diego, but have been a "nomad" for two years (perks of a remote job!). My day job is working for a tech company you all know and use regularly (hint hint). But my lifelong passion has been music.

I've been everything from a part-time DJ to a part-time session guitarist. Writing songs is my first love. I'm very genre agnostic. I write everything from folk to EDM.

Love to be here and looking forward to making some new friends!

Hey Guys,

JC here, and excited to get to know some of you guys along this road. I'm an aspiring songwriter from Alabama. I've been writing songs for about 25 years to an audience of 1. It's time to expand the horizons and see where we go from here. I can write in most of all genres but most of my lyrics fall mostly in the Country and Americana/ Outlaw Country genres. Guess you can say if you can live it, I did. I am really looking forward to what I have to learn from you guys.

Hi JC:

The "audience of one scenario" is pretty much "all there is" these days for most of us. I hope you've found a place to "hang your hat" and share "war stories" with us. Learning which forums are of importance to you will be your first thing to sort out. I suggest you begin by spending time at the General Forum, then navigate down to the MP3 Forum to hear some of the songs being posted by your fellow JPF Members.

If it's lyrics that interest you, there are three lyric forums beneath the MP3 Forum. None of them are genre specific unless I was asleep at the wheel when it changed... LOL!

Chime in whenever you feel ready to participate. For the most part, we are one big happy family. Welcome, and please don't hesitate to ask if you need assistance.

Hi Ryan:

Sorry I missed your first post. Thankfully, Brian noticed and responded. Just wanted you to know we have another significant member of JPF residing in your vicinity. I know he is busier than a one-armed-paper-hanger so I'll let him make introductions at his convenience.

Welcome. Don't be shy if you have questions or need assistance. I think you will really enjoy this special place Brian provides for us.

Hey, JC. This is John here. Back in the day I wrote over 900 songs. Mostly '80's and 90's pop with a generous slice of mainstream country thrown in. I could still write today, although I lost my beloved keyboard. Looking forward to hearing all about what you're writing. Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the merry-go-round, Tim, Ryan and JC.

Vic

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

I am most recently from Pueblo, Colorado. I was active in JPF for a number of years until my day job got extremely busy, i.e., business/technical/instructional writer/editor for the home office of a corporation. Now I am semi-retired. My main interest is writing country western songs. I also write novels, short stories, and poetry. On Soundcloud, I have posted vocal/guitar recordings for over 50 songs, most country, a few folk (or singer/songwriter). The songs are organized by playlists.

https://soundcloud.com/search/sets?q=walt%20lamberg

I have three goals. First, I would like to have a co-writer relationship to work on several songs. I am not a performing singer or guitar player though I have been working to improve in those two areas. I consider my strength to be writing lyrics. I can also compose the basic music, i.e., suggested melody and chord progressions. I can provide a vocal/guitar MP3 to give a good idea of the melody along with a Word document with the lyrics and chords. I would like the co-writer to be a performing singer/musician who can produce a professional quality recording of our songs. (The co-writer can also be songwriter. Suggestions for improving the lyrics, melody, and chords are welcome.)

Second, I would like to make our songs available on CDs.

Third, I would like to find an effective platform for making the CDs available, e.g., CDBaby or Amazon.

The co-writer and I would have an equal share of the copyright and any money made from the CDs or individual songs.

Any guidance for accomplishing these goals would be most appreciated.

Thank you Brian. Any advice for initiating a mutually productive co-writer relationship?

Hi Walt:

Just wanted to drop by and say, "Welcome home to JPF"... and wish you success in your musical endeavors. No advice... it's a process and takes time to develop relationships to determine compatibility, work ethic, and relative talent(s). Even if you are able to establish a perfect co-writing team... as you know, the work and patience required by both parties is seemingly, never ending.

I've done my share of co-writing and have enjoyed some enjoyable creations... but these days, generally prefer to write and record alone. I'm nearing the end of my musical journey and simply want to devote all my time to my own projects.

Feel free to PM me if you feel a need to explore ideas or ask the opinion of a burnt-out old geezer. Meanwhile, best wishes for success and musical happiness. ----Dave

Dave,

Thank you for your kind post. By the way, I live in Pueblo, Colorado now, but I spent five years in Houston and six in Austin. Those two cities contributed to my interest in country music. Also, when I was in the Army, it seemed like every Army club I went to played nothing but country. So now I have two things going for me -- veteran and country.

Best wishes for your music.

Hi!
I'm Andy--just joined. I've been into music in some way most of my life. Right now I play guitar, mandolin (and other mando family members), banjo, diddley bow and ukulele. I also build stringed instruments out of junk, like scrap wood, cigar boxes and cookie tins. I've recently gotten into making percussion instruments out of recycled materials (fancy talk for junk).

I'm looking forward to a lot of fun and learning here.

Hi Andy! Welcome to Just Plain Folks! My stepfather has been making cigar box guitars lately and I love creative instrument productions. Please post some info on what you do and maybe some youtube videos you might have made!

Dropping by to introduce myself. Originally from Northern New York, I'm currently based in Fullerton, California. I'm a guitarist, singer, songwriter and compose and perform in a variety of styles from hard and progressive rock to experimental instrumentals. I'm very much influenced by guitarists like Michael Hedges and Kaki King as well as by traditional East Asian music, and this comes through in a lot of my work. My most recent project is a collection of fingerstyle influenced instrumentals mostly performed on acoustic guitar.

My goal is to spend the majority of my time making music and moving people through it and the rest of my the climbing rocks and mountains,

I'm looking forward to getting know folks here and to share thoughts and work with you. Would be honored if you checked out my music and would love to hear what you think!

Hi Tully,

Welcome to JPF! I look forward to seeing/hearing what what you post. If you have a particular track to share, post a link to it on the mp3 board, or if it's a video, on the Video board. The best way for new folks to get feedback is to offer some yourself when you post which is the going custom here.

Glad to have you!

Brian

Hi there,
I just joined after reading a book called Six Steps to Songwriting Success, which mentions this forum. I am getting back into songwriting after a 15-year hiatus and could use all the advice and support I can get. I look forward to interacting with many of you and finding out what this organization has to offer.

Thank you, John!
I write both music and lyrics. I find that the melodies come easily with the words, but then I have to go back and re-write the lyrics because only maybe 25% of them are any good smile Actually, some are so bad that now they're just music with no lyrics. Hahaha
