A satire on the old Doc Of Death From the days when he was popular. Think disco beat- up-tempo.
WHERE’S DOCTOR KEVORKIAN © by Cal 1993
My baby left me I’m all alone My friends all hate me there’s nowhere to go Put to the limit I can’t stand the pain I saw his picture in the paper today
Where’s Doctor Kevorkian Where’s Doctor Kevorkian Where’s Doctor Kevorkian now Where’s Doctor Kevorkian
I lost my job my dog ran away I washed my car then it started to rain I’m so unhappy I can’t bear the pain I read his story in the paper today Where’s Doctor Kevorkian Where’s Doctor Kevorkian Where’s Doctor Kevorkian now Where’s Doctor Kevorkian
We could meet in a rented old room He’ll bring his bottles make a video too I’ll pull the handle on his very fine machine We'll keep it a secret if you know what I mean Old Geoffrey Fieger said he’s very clean
Where’s Doctor Kevorkian Where’s Doctor Kevorkian Where’s Doctor Kevorkian now Where’s Doctor Kevorkian
I need Doctor Kevorkian I need Doctor Kevorkian now Where’s Doctor Kevorkian I need Doctor Kevorkian now Where’s Doctor Kevorkian Where’s Doctor Kevorkian

This is a funny song. Give more examples and write a real chorus. Especially why you have decided not to do away with yourself the other ways.

Hey Cal
I have not been on the forum in a while. Mainly because I don't know whats good and bad in the sonwriting world. I hear absolute crap on the radio thats paying big bucks, yet i read lyrics on this forum that are great and can't get a listen. I like your song and like we have talked about, with the right music it could go places. I have heard your musical ability first hand and you are more talented than a lot of people on this forum will ever know. I still have your CD and listen to it. Anyway my singing aspirations fell through as I'll explain someday.
Anyway,,,, good song,, use your musical talent to make it a hit..
Mike

"Weird Al" maybe? I'm thinking you could take the story lines and make them a little more bizarre so that we could laugh a little harder, otherwise it might come off too serious and folks won't get the joke... ------------------ Marty my new home It may be cold out but your heart doesn't need to be. Hi Mike- Good to see you on the board. Thanks for the nice compliment regarding this song, and also about my musical talents. I tagged up with Cowboy Slim last September at a songwriter's picnic in Nashville- met a bunch of great folks. Also took him to that label and publisher I told you about. The publisher was interested in four of my tunes on that very CD. Not bad for a home demo. Keep in touch.

God told us "Thow shalt not kill." I believe he meant; for any reason. I saw a billboard in Indiana that read: What don't you understand about "Thow shalt not?" God. Thanks for the visit. Cal

Isn't Dr. K in jail? If he is, you have have some material for a chorus that says something funny (like getting him paroled). As it is, this lyric is not ready for composing because the chorus is weak.

The paroled idea is interesting, but takes away from the question we are asking- Where's Dr Kevorkian? The chorus was written to be unique, and different, and with the music and four part harmonies, it ROCKS! I wrote it plain and simple on purpose; repeating it to get the listeners attention, and to get my point across. The chorus speaks for itself- and does not need any other lyric. To many writers on this forum, forget to really use their hook; and that repeating it frequently, can only make it more memorable. If anyone heard this song once, they would probably curse themselves, because they wouldn't be able to get that HOOK out of their head. Ha Ha- just being dramatic here. Go to Google and put in Doctor Kervorkian and this post comes up in the top five pages... we've gotten about 1000 hits on it already this month.

Man, I hestitate to reply to this -- I just joined the board and this is second "humorous" song I don't get. At first, I thought it was just supposed to be a kind of bizarre hook for a twist on melodramatic ain't-my-life-sad songs. But then you said it was supposed to be a satirical view of Kevorkian:
"I forgot about weird Al- I wrote this one sorta simple, and sarcastic, to get my message across. God told us "Thow shalt not kill." I believe he meant; for any reason."
I don't think it works either way. Mercy killing is too serious a subject to use as a way to mock light-weight whiners. It's like saying I hate to go to work on Monday, so I wish Al-Quaida would just hijack a plane and blow up the building. Terminal cancer, Alzheimer's disease, brain-dead wives and mothers. What a yuk.
And if it's satire on Kevorkian, you're really comparing a dirty car to a loved one wasting away in agony? That'll show him.
"Satire is tragedy plus time. You give it enough time, the public, the reviewers will allow you to satirize it. Which is rather ridiculous, when you think about it." -- Lenny Bruce

Hi Lenny- Welcome to JPF's. Thanks for the visit and your comments. Some folks may get a different take when reading a lyric. That's what's interesting about this craft. Glad to see you on the boards.

Hi Cal,
I can understand where Joyboy is coming from, but I read your lyric and get a sense that you intended it to be a funny song, which it is!
I think this also could be interpreted as a protest of his "occupation" as it implies that something as trivial as having a few tough breaks could be a reason to seek his services.
In any event, this is a great write and I agree with repeating the title as often as it can be done, while keeping the quality of the lyric in balance.

"Hi Lenny" *lol* I wrote that pretty fast and I just reread it. Came across as pretty strident, huh? Sorry about that and thanks for the welcome.

hey Diane-
Well stated.
All- I have great compassion for anyone who suffers with on-going severe pain. I also feel Jack was sincere, and had great compassion for these folks; pursuing his cause, to relieve their pain and suffering. Society makes laws to follow; we must abide by these laws. Unfortunately, he blatantly broke the law, and is now suffering the consequences. (No offense Jack, Geoffrey; I have always considered G, an excellent attorney, who’s skills I regard as being on the highest level). We all must make decisions in life. Some are governed by laws; man's, and also God's. The reality of this is; we may get away with breaking man's laws sometimes, but we cannot hide from the divine power. This is interesting because we all are free, (have been given the opportunity) to “choose” the paths to follow, and the decisions we make, in this fascinating journey we call life.
