Yes because that is what he was. I know some people that think Jesus was a Christian but of course there were no Christians and Jesus never came here to form a new religion but to tell us The Good News. I was brought up Jewish and I swear the info that he was an orthodox Jew was kept from us kids. Not sure why but I found Jesus late in life. SO I decided to write a story/song about his life and how he affected the world. That's the reason......

Thanks for sharing, Barry:
I listened yesterday but had to leave before I could comment. (Family dinner out at our Son-in-Law's place on Chalk Mountain.) Loved hearing your perspective on this 2000+ year old story. As Christians, we often forget the fact that Jesus was Jewish and cared enough to share his love with everyone including Gentiles and Romans. Happy Hanukkah to you and may 2018 bring you much happiness and good health. ----Dave

When I was a kid we didn't mention the name Jesus Christ or we'd be in trouble and never knew why. He was a no no and didn't find out he was Jewish for many years and was shocked to find that out. I still don't know why many Jews don't talk about this and even try to keep it away from their kids.....I love Jesus and he was the Coolest Guy who ever lived. I don't know if I believe every detail about his life and reason for coming but he always said he came for EVERYBODY. If we could live our lives 1% the way he did we'd be doing good. He was amazing and I've written about ten Jesus Songs. Have you ever heard of The Urantia Book?

Hi Barry:
We live in a world where sometimes our interpretation of what God wants us to emulate is way out of kilter with what he wants us to do. Although I am a Protestant Christian... I have come to believe God wants what is best for all mankind. We may not worship the Supreme Being in the same way... or call him by different names... (I love the Native American Term, "Great Spirit") we need to be mindful that there are many roads to that place we also call by different names. I also worry that I may be destined to spend some time in the great sauna for my wickedness.
Yes, I've heard of the Urantia Book but have not read it. Knowing or believing that I am the oldest person here at JPF coupled with the death last August of my only sibling (older brother)... I am concerned that time is short and I have not written my best song yet. To that end, I spend way too much time in my little studio... but it is a form of entertainment for me and I want to leave a legacy for my children and heirs. I've always enjoyed music in many genres and started writing songs after I retired. What I would give to have known music would "capture me" when I lived in Nashville and had the opportunity to make some good connections there. Being a recognizable face in Nashville with a few people with credentials and influence would be a fantastic asset. Seems like I'm always showing up late at the season's last waltz. LOL!
Happy New Year! ----Dave

I call it The Grand Designer....lol Since my computer won't allow me to upload songs I stopped writing but started writing stories and enjoy it. I don't think there is such a thing as our best song as it's so subjective. I'm my biggest fan and no matter how many times I listen to me sing my songs I still love them.......I thought at 72 I was the oldest here....What kind of equipment to do you use to record and play on? Barry:
I use a Yamaha Arranger KB and a Boss BR-864 Digital Recorder for the "Heavy Lifting" and output the WAV file into a desktop for edits and conversion of the WAV file to an MP3. I don't have to 8 track, mix down and finalize because all of that can be done before recording with the arranger. Select instrument, choir, orchestra, guitar, etc. needed by the song being written and/or recorded, adjust the individual volumes, set the volume for the Mic, the accompaniment desired and the overall recording... then wail away. If the first recording doesn't cut the mustard, make minor (or major) adjustments and try again. Think of all the practice I get that way... LOL!
It's nice to have 8 track capability (actually, I could use as many as 32 tracks... but why bother?) when working with folks who do... but in my day-to-day work, 1 live track is all that I really need after spending some time making a set-up. The nice thing about the arranger KB is that each arrangement can be saved for future takes. As a precaution against power outages or memory failures, etc., I often add a second, set-up page to my lyric and chord sheet for each song. It takes a bit of time but anything worth doing is worth doing well. (Wish I could say that about my vocal abilities... but hey, we do what we must to "get the gist of the song" across. Then, after all hope is lost, I call Mike Zaneski and get him to do a good demo of my song... LOL! Pride has prevented many songwriters from achieving success... and often, a good demo will get your song "in the door" with a producer, publisher or label. Not as often as I would like, though.
Later, ----Dave

LOL I don't even know what all that equipment is about or does as I never used any of that. When I did write and record I used a Boss Recorder and did it all on six tracks and that was it. Made a cd and uploaded it to an mp3 and the rest is history. IF I was guaranteed 10 more years AND if I had the money I'd check all that equipment out but did pretty good with the crap that I had. I love singing my own songs and have never had anybody else sing one.......SO on and on it goes.....Take care my friend and oh year are you older than me? lol

Not to turn this into a religious debate, but Jesus never said he came for everybody. In fact he was primarily concerned with what he saw as lapses in Judaism and for the first hundred years or so, Christianity was seen as a Jewish sect. It was actually St Paul who extended Christianity to the gentiles, then, three hundred years later, the emperor Constantine who turned it into Rome's state religion...and who tried to get his entire empire "on the same page" with the Council of Nicea. There were lots af variations in beliefs that had to be reconciled AND eradicated, and what has become accepted belief had its genesis in Nicea in 325 AD. Not refuting what you believe...just adding context
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

I agree with most of what you said here....The story got so diluted in hundreds of years that how can we tell truth from fiction.....The old testament was mostly a bunch of story tellers. I do find the story and life of Jesus fascinating and not sure what to make of it....but I like Jesus from what I read and think he Rocks!

Hi Barry.
A very nice tribute and rendition recognizing the birth of Jesus Christ and His impact here on earth. Raised Christian, I was taught that Jesus was Jewish and rebellious against the state of Judaism. I share some how both you and Dave feel considering beliefs/religions of this world, and though beliefs may differ among us all, I think the perceived Entity is the same as Dave mentioned. There is good and there is evil, right & wrong, love & hate--and I suppose a lot of gray areas in between. People will always have their differences of opinion on this subject--but aren't we all biased & influenced strongly on how we are taught at an early age? I steer clear of religious arguments as you cannot argue "passionate" topics effectively unless each participant is open minded--nor do I feel compelled to change how other's believe if its not adversely affecting me. But I personally believe there is much more than our "brief" stay on this earth, and do pray to "The Great Spirit/God/Hosanna."
I wish everyone a Happy New Year on this last day of 2017! "May you all find your elusive melodies & rhymes, whether 3/4, 4/4, heck, even 6/8 would be fine!"

Barry,
This is actually very, very interesting. Many people just never stop to realize that when Jesus was preaching he never asked people to be better Christians. He was very explicitly asking them to be better Jews--and to do a better job of keeping the commandments and other aspects of cultural and religious heritage, which would obviously include going to temple and so forth. "I did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill..".etc Only he had a few other ideas to throw in, like THE PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP YOU HAVE WITH GOD IS MOST IMPORTANT AND APPLIES TO EVERYBODY GENTILE AND JEW. And when you worship and pray, don't make a big spectacle of yourself so everyone can see. Go pray in a closet and get real--one on one.
Also, when his disciples started to pray to him, he was like "Whoah, whoah, stop it....Pray to the Father."
"But Jesus we don't know how..."
"Ok, let me break it down...Our Father, Which Art in Heaven...Got it???"
Still, if you go into churches today....
Hmmmmm.
