I'm off to France today for three weeks, so this is my last chance to post a new one. I expect you could do with the rest :-)

Cinnamon eyes ©2016 Vic Arnold

V1
There's a bar downtown with a smoky view
where the sleeping water runs through the swirling room,
Oh that golden glow how it could tantalise
I felt I would die from cinnamon eyes
V2
It was a loose seduction with a firm tango hold
I didn't feel the destruction, I just felt too bold
Her come over smile hid her true disguise
I thought I might die from cinnamon eyes
Ch.
I thought I would die from cinnamon eyes
A shot of bourbon and a shot of rye
Hit me again with your smooth talking lies
I think I'll die from cinnamon eyes.
Inst.
V1
There's the reason I'm undone, and all it took
was the cross between a thirst and a thirsty look
With a half full glass but a half empty life
I knew I would die from cinnamon eyes
Ch.
I thought I would die from cinnamon eyes
A shot of bourbon and a shot of rye
Hit me again with your smooth talking lies
I think I'll die from cinnamon eyes.

Well have a great trip and come back with more great songs.

"a loose seduction with a firm tango hold"

Love that line! Don't know why this song reminded me of Willie Nelson? Very cool over all, especially the vocal. Well done.

Thanks Ricki.
If I do they will still be in English. :-)

Willie Nelson is ok by me, too.

Hi Mike.
Yes, the word just popped into my head so I thought "I'm gonna write a song with cinnamon in it" and the eyes popped out of my head. grin

It does add spice to the mix. Lollylol!

Thanks for liking it.

Hi Vic:

First things first! The title alone forces a listen... and yes, there is a "Willie Vibe" about this song the way you performed it... and it is a delicious listen. One of those songs that has the ability to stay with us... long into the future. Super song, my friend.

Be careful and cautious while you are across the channel. If you are near Normandy, leave a Rose on a Stone for me.

Enjoyed this so much. ----Dave

"It was a loose seduction with a firm tango hold "

As Ricki mentioned that is indeed a very cool line
amongst many other good ones.

FWIW I felt a piano would have better fit the groove
you established -- rather than the electric
guitar. I really like both the melody and the vocal --
just found the guitar not as supportive of the vocal.

But, I've spent the morning working with some
piano loops so I'm likely biased smile

We enjoyed the song and wish you the best
on the getaway!

Edit: listened some more and am finding the guitar more
fitting smile

Hi Vic,

Really cool, enjoyable song.

After the first verse, I thought "cinnamon eyes" was possibly referring to a "condition" the singer had gotten from soaking in the golden glow of that smoky room for too long, and I like how the title comes to also possibly refer to the seductresses eyes.

I like the word play in this. Many lines have a kind of oxymoron approach to them, or carry opposites words in the same phrase, like "half full glass but a half empty life" and "It was a loose seduction with a firm tango hold" and very very subtly, "I just felt too bold" --because with the word "just" I'm expecting something humbler than "too bold" to follow. And it all carries a Dylan-y love of language with it that makes it a fun lyric, an then a fun vocal to follow.

Enjoy France, I hear the busking is excellent. smile

Mike

Hey Vic,

How's your French vocabulary? Hope you're enjoying trip.

I really like the melody/vibe you have going on here. My only small sug would be make the 2nd line of the song more "real/literal" just to establish a setting more quickly--unless I'm not understanding that 2nd line's meaning, but it does flow nicely.

What a great title by the way, one has to want to see what's meant by that expression. I didn't get Wille, but a little of Dylan when he first went electric.

Nice work mate!

Yes, you could get something very similar to being in that sort of environment.

Thanks, Ed.
I get what you're saying about the second line, but I wanted to keep the whole thing a little ambiguous. But if you think about it a lttle more I'm sure you'll get the meaning.

Yes, you are right about Dylan. I had him in mind from the start.
