Hope all you JPFrs are having a lovely evening, or morning, as the case may be. I posted my guitar/vocal of this song about a year ago. Recently, after some re-writing and re-recording, I turned it over to Mike Zaneski and this is the result. I don't think I'll be making any more changes to it but, as always, any and all comments and suggestions for the future are very welcomed. Thanks for listening, Ricki https://soundcloud.com/rickib/stale-cigarettes-1Stale Cigarettes Stale cigarettes, cheap motel rooms Endless schemes will payoff soon Lure of danger for my Daddy Twist in the gut, does the best he can I’m forced to consider Who I am Child of the damned When I face that mirror Here’s lookin’ at you His eyes fierce and blue Deal gone wrong, glint of steel His white shirt red with blood that’s real Ringing ears, weight of the gun Stick to the plan, take the cash and run REPEAT CHORUS All my life I’ve had to fight Now I dream for room to breathe REPEAT CHORUS Carry on as daddy’s girl Or move along and change my world Long road ahead, things to forget Like the smell of his stale cigarettes Stale cigarettes Stale cigarettes Stale cigarettes Stale cigarettes ©Ricki E. Hey! Who are you calling sleazy? I resemble that remark! Mike really cooled it up a few notches. Thanks for listening Calvin.

Yes, Mike captured the feel perfectly to this very cool song. Great job on the vocal too, Ricki. In my mind's eye, I can see the neon reflecting off the rainy street outside the room. And blood running into the storm drain. Scott

Thanks for remembering, Louis. I'm sure it didn't make you cry but, maybe the one farther down the page will? Ricki

Thanks for listening, Scott, and for the visuals. Mike really "got" the song, as I was sure he would. Glad it shows.

Nice groove and cool vocals Ricki. Perfect with this set of lyrics.
As for the production... as usual a major tip of the hat to the Mike-stro. All the lovely instrumental bits sprinkled through out, re enforces the COOL in the piece.

What a great tune. Fantastic lyric Ricki. Similar lyrically to one of my favorite Springsteen tunes, Adam Raised A Cain. When I say similar, only in the way it rehashes the sins of the father on the child. Loved the music. Mike did an amazing job with the music. Sounded like I was sitting in a smoky jazz bar listening to just some fantastic music. Loved your vocal. Everything sounds right to me.

This is really good. Nice production as expected from Mike. What really stands out to me is the change when the chorus starts. You know you have arrived at the chorus! Well done.

Calvin, Mike, Martin, Louis, Scott, Nelson, Dave, Vic, and Colin:
Thank you guys so much for listening and it makes me happy to know that you liked what you heard.
Ricki made this really easy for me. She knew exactly what she wanted, and so we whittled away 'til we arrived at that vision.
I find in my re-listening that Ricki has a multi-layered thing going on in this lyric, and that her vocal interpretation is on the money and breathtaking. These things make "the producing" a joyous thing.
Thanks again, all!!
Mike
