Hey all,

Finished this one last night. I realize its' political leanings might not be for everyone's taste and also realize it probably has zero commercial viability due to its' political themes. That being said, I still value the opinions of the group regarding the song. Thanks in advance.

A SECOND WIND
Music & Lyrics by David S. Becker
(c)2015 David S. Becker Music
All Rights Reserved

INTRO
VERSE 1

Hey!
I'm tired of watching
That same old crap go down
I don't see us
Effecting a change by pillaging a town

PRE-CHORUS
There is right and wrong
A second wind's comin' on

CHORUS 1
Some kids get killed for stepping over
That thin blue line
A clerk won't recognize
Love entwined
But the
Southern cross gets banned
And true love is the law of the land
A second wind is blowing strong

VERSE 2
Hey!
Our constitution
Prevents society's decay
And if you're born here
It's your absolute right to stay

PRE-CHORUS
CHORUS 2
The apprentice claims he will
Make us great again
He'll send them back
As a means to an end
But the
Hate will dissipate
And his polling will deflate
A second wind will blow so strong

BRIDGE
A second wind's coming
Don't you hear it come
(Don't you hear it coming)
A second wind's coming
Don't you feel it come
(Don't you feel it coming)
A second wind's coming
Don't you hear it come
(Don't you hear it coming)
A second wind's coming
Here it comes ...

SOLO
CHORUS 3
When did the lies become so
Common place
Here's some cash
Go buy the race
And the Gale Force winds they blew
What was right is now askew
But the
Second Wind will blow so strong

OUTRO
Here it comes

I hear ya, brother! I like this political tune. Good performance, and recording. Some really good guitar work in here; I especially liked the harmonized lead guitar in the one section. The ending was nicely done, too.

My only nit is a minor one - I thought the guitar tracks could sit in the mix a bit better and with more consistency.

Overall, a really superb job!

Peace,
TC

Good one, Dave.
One sugg. I could be wrong but I think the bridge is too long on a single chord. You could try halving it.

I agree. Reminds me a bit of the some of the politically-inspired stuff Jackson Browne has done. This one pretty much hits the nail on the head theme wise. A true protest song for our time.

Hi David,

I love the bluesy soul guitars and your vocal arrangement is cool, too.

Nice lead vocal, relevant words. Interesting chord progression. Very enjoyable!

Cool, and very timely, Dave. Just a couple of things:

I don't understand this reference?
A clerk won't recognize
Love entwined

And in V2, I would drop the "inalienable", it's understood and too wordy.

"True love is the law of the land"...probably not in our lifetime but it is a worthy goal. Let's hear it for a second wind! smile

@Ricki ... thx for the listen. It is greatly appreciated. The lines:

A clerk won't recognize
Love entwined

Is my vague reference to Kentucky clerk, Kim Davis', refusal to issue marriage certificates to gay and lesbian couples, despite the Supreme Court's pronouncement that such marriage is legal. While I acknowledge many disagree, I believe the Supreme Court's decision was the correct one and do not believe a clerk has a right to disobey the law based upon a religious belief. While that is where I was going with the line, I chose not to state my position so bluntly. Hope that clears up the confusion.

Thx again,
Dave

Hi Dave,
I think more songs of this nature should be written. You've allowed your views in without insulting opposing views. I like it. These are hot topics and I think you've touched well on them. Enjoyed it. I do think the bridge is a bit long. As for the musical parts, I'll leave that to the experts. Enjoyed it.

HA!

Chorus 2 is FAB! Great vocal and melody on this! Love the idea of it and it isn't an angry sounding song. I like how this came together friend!

Hey Dave!

I haven't been around for awhile, but really enjoyed this tune. The song has "plow power," in other words, it's coming right at you, and will run you over if you don't move with it! (what the Buckeyes lacked yesterday unfortunately).

Great write, liked everything about it.

Man, you got a real smoker here, Dave.
Sounds like Dylan being backed up by the Beatles.

Nice write and cool performance.
