Everyone liked the 4-track demo from '97, so I finally produced this with a little pizazz..All comments are welcome.

When I was ten I had a magic radio
I knew the words to all my favorite songs
I listened with it underneath my pillow
and all my friends would sing me all night long

It was me and ma but they were just like family
Buck and Marty, Dolly, Glen and Merle
And ma was worried how I stood by Tammy
Yeah Tammy was my very first best girl

She was gentle on my mind

Pickin' up Tulsa time far away as Amarillo
I know Billie Jo's just layin' low

It was more than just a radio
My magic music box

Oh I loved to tune it in to far away places
The static sounded like how spacemen talk
And I tried to picture how music could travel
Could fly into my magic music box

I kicked it running for the ice cream man

hey Michael,ya got a cool little diddy here,i like it.I sure remember my transistor radio days.

Fine piece of songwriting and musicianship.
The production and the performances are top notch stuff, indeed.

I am OLD and remember in the early 50's I had a green GE Transistor Radio that was my Lifeline to Sanity. I never went anywhere without that large monster and even had it in my Bed with me when I slept. It took huge batteries and was my LOVER that never let me down. I owe ALL my Success (lol ) at Love for music to that Big Green Monster...MY GE TRANSISTOR RADIO.
Keep them coming....

A clever write, Michael... covered a lot of (familiar) ground and brought back some good, old memories. Would be nice if you could swap out the accordion (sound) for a pedal steel...

Tinny sound..under the pillow actually helped the bass response, as I recall..I divided my time between the top forty and country stations, growing up in Los Angeles. I imagine your taste was rather eclectic as well.

I thought the harmonies in this were really effective. This had a cool classic feel to it, I thought the vocal performance was really solid. I enjoyed the listen man, good luck with it.

Mine was small and had a black leather case, and I loved that radio.

Thanks!

I find most accordions and virtual accordion add a warmth to things. It was the last thing I added to compliment the swingin' counterpoint of the mandolin in the right speaker.

You like pedal steel on fast "Sneaky Pete" kinda stuff more than me. I usually reserve pedal steel for slow weepy stuff, and then find I'm constantly wishing there weren't so many added 6th chords, haha..

I think it works very well, Mike.
You might turn down the part where the harmonies first come in as it kind of shoots out at you a little too much but the rest is a good balance.

I love Western Swing. My love comes via Merle Haggard, not Bob Wills though. Hag put out a couple records that were tributes to Wills, and I wore out the vinyl a few times.
