Morning John:
In many instances, the last chick to hatch becomes a target by its siblings and does not survive. Natural selection can be an intentionally cruel thing. Let's hope the three that have emerged will become adults and aid us in our "war with insects."
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Dave

Yes, it's survival of the fittest in the animal kingdom. Though I'm impressed with how well momma and papa Robin are taking care of their babies. John

`Gummo had no birthday Perhaps he met his fate I think he isn’t coming I fear it’s much too late Perhaps he was a masterpiece And too good for this earth Was taken up to heaven’s gates Where angels watched his birth He’s looking down upon us He sees his siblings squirm Their nest is getting tighter As they fill up with worms He knows they all will meet again And they will sweetly sing When all of them are called back home To chirp before the King!`

Wow! They're ready to spread their wings and greet the world! That nest IS getting tighter! Nice poem, Lynn!

That is one full nest, John. Are you going to trying and catch them in first flight?

Two robins just fled the nest. Up in trees already. Momma and papa's zooming back and forth. Came close to my noggin. Only bone left. Looks like he's lonely, but afraid to make the plunge. John

WOW, They did good!! Sometimes they don;t make that first flight and end up on the ground. Then Mama and Poppa go crazy trying to guard them or help them

The last baby is standing on the ledge. Appears to be mustering up courage to make the jump. Meanwhile mama and papa are frantically whizzing back a and forth in front of the nest. Making me nervous...

No sign of the mama, papa, or babies today. I reckon they've gotten on with their lives. I'll probably take the nest down tomorrow so I can start watering and taking care of Poor Fern.
End of the baby robins saga...

They may return next year. I live on a farm and I am sure the same robins or their offspring return each year to nest.

I don't doubt it. Then John could write a Robin's Saga --- or something. Maybe "Roundabout Robins" I like that. It flows nicely. Maybe i'll write a lyric

I thought of a great title... "When The Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along". No, too long a title. It would never work. John

Time to post a sign John
"Nest For Rent, Fully FERN-ished" Good one Lynn. I took the nest down. Found two unhatched eggs left behind. From the research I did, I found the robins don't usually come back to a previous nest. Now maybe Mr. Fern will start looking healthier. John
