Hi Don,

Welcome to JPF! We had an active local chapter in Buffalo, NY for many years, you may be able to hook up with some of those folks still in the area, Alison may know more about it. Please give her our thanks and tell her we'd love to see her here on the boards as well.

Jump in and have fun!

Hi Melsi, nice to meet you. We loved our JPF Tour there meeting members and hearing their stories and music while seeing the sights. (All areas were so different, sort of like US States, with their own personality, individual cultural norms and traditions, and scenery.

We're glad to have you. Look forward to seeing you around. Jump right it!

New member here from OH-IO. I dug up some lyrics I wrote a few years back after stumbling upon this site. I noticed how supportive everyone here seems - whether the lyrics are great or simply ok...hello everyone - nice to be here! grin

Hi Ricky,

Welcome to JPF. What part of Ohio are you in? I grew up in the Dayton/Kettering/Beavercreek area and have family in Columbus.

Jump right in and have fun! It's often best to offer some feedback to others so that when you post something of your own, people will already know who you are. Also, to start, try posting just one lyric at a time until that runs its course before posting another for the best results.

Don't be shy, everyone here is friendly!

Hi there,

Great to find like minded folks. I'm up in Victoria BC and started writing a few years ago. I'd love to get and give feedback, as writing has become quite a passion..... as well as collaborate. Some of my music is on http://www.reverbnation.com/ihor. Thanks for the opportunity. I plan to start exploring the site right away.

Have tried unsuccessfully to log in here about two years ago. Today I needed to find a lyric, so I tried again. This time I was able to log in. It's been a while.

I've taken a couple sabbaticals from writing since my last tenure here. Recently, I found a very nice local venue for songwriters and their original music. I figured it's time to put together a portfolio to pull from in case I need it soon.

Howdy, friends and neighbors;
I'm Andy Burr, a musician from Mountain View, Ark, but living in the Orlando, FL, area since the late 1970s. In addition to the 4 bands I've been performing with for years (1. '80s rock 'n' reggae band The Shades; 2. Louisiana Cajun and zydeco band The Porchdogs; 3. Old-time and Americana by Mountain Brew; and 4. 1950s-'80s pop and country by The Retro Ramblers), I recently started a business selling LED stage lights and accessories to musicians, deejays, churches, nightclubs, and party people everywhere. Long sentence, eh? Sorry 'bout that. I put everything on one website:
http://www.MountainBrew.net
Cheers and best wishes,
Andy

Hi Folks,

Been poking around here just a bit already and am thinking I could give & take much at this site. Definitely full of bright ideas for others people's music, since that requires no effort whatsoever on my part... Have heard some good tunes. Like the idea that we don't have to just be blowing smoke up anybody, but remain respectful.
I've been recording at home for a couple eons by now and feel like I've made some progress, doing originals and reinventing other people's stuff.
Play guitar, bass & piano in a few church bands, leading at one church 2 or 3 times a month.
Online musicianing can be fun though... here's an example I did with a dude from Texas, me in Michigan.
Hoping we can get on Hee Haw with this, or is it too edgy?

Hello from Dublin, Ireland!

Looking forward to participating in what seems like a very active forum!

I'm a songwriter/musician and have also done some artist management, mostly on a part time basis.

I record my solo work under the name of Kevin ISM. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Best Wishes,

Kevin

Hello. My name is Chris.

I have been writing songs for years because I feel I have stories to tell. I love the way music conveys the story as well as the emotion of the storyteller (if the song is written well).

I am just now getting more serious about my songwriting in hopes of my songs being recorded some day. I look forward to any and all feedback you can offer me on my songs.

Well, that's about it. Can't wait to get to know you all!

Looks like we've had several new members only being recognized by Brian... and that's a good thing... but all of us need to encourage new folks to this fantastic site.

Hi Chris, Kevin, Daniel and Andy Burr for making your presence known. I hope you will learn to navigate the many facets of this site. A good place to start is the general message forum where you will get to know many of the more active members.

Follow you comfort zone but please feel to chime in on any of our topics and conversations. We try to make most things music oriented but often allow our outside influences creep in.

Welcome. I hope to see you around... and often.

Hi Everyone. Looks like a great sight and I am looking forward to giving and receiving feedback and advice on my (our) musical journey(s).

I have been a musician all my life (and truly "just a plain folk), but never "pursued" it for several reasons which I will not bore you with. 2014 however, lit a fire in my mind and fingers, and I have been on a rampage, writing more than 50 songs this year. I released my first single ever on October 31st. It is titled "Funk Monster" and it is live on Amazon.com, iTunes and several other retailers in digital format only. I am very proud of this number, but am always open to advice/constructive criticism, so have at it if you listen to in the mp3 section of this site or my soundcloud or youtube, etc.

The band name is Da' Mutta' Funka's and please pardon my attempts to remain anonymous on this endeavor. Reason I am trying to remain "unknown" (at least my personal information) is because I have a couple of other genre's I write in other than Funk (which is what Da' Mutta' Funka's is all about) and when I publish/produce something in those other genre's, I don't want this Funk trail to follow me there (positively or negatively).

As you may be able to tell by now, I can be a bit long winded. I am going to head over to the MP3 section and post a link to this song for review and/or your listening pleasure ;~)))

Hope you like and looking forward to the interactions.

Hi. Just wanted to write a few lines to introduce myself here. I have been making music for the past 20 years and hope I can give a helping hand to some of the member here on JPF. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me of course. Happy posting!

Hi Everyone at Just Plain Folks! Music has been with me since I can remember and I have seen many of the roads that it travels. I love to write and have recently thought it would be fun to make a leap and see what's outside my sphere. Kinda excited about it all!

Hello Peggy
Welcome onboard,if you are happy doing lyrics I would suggest lyric forum 3 to be the busiest and where most of the regular posters hang around. There's also a good MP3 forum too for completed songs/demos.
Plenty of good forums for all tastes many non musical!

Hi Gang,

Welcome to all. If you'd like feedback, take a look at the MP3 Feedback or the Lyric Feedback forums. There's even some friendly advice there to help you get started and folks on each board are usually very quick about directly answer any posted questions.

If you'd like to ask me anything, you can send me a PM here via the boards under the "My Stuff" tab in the top middle of the page frame above. (You'll see a little automatic welcome email there already).

The general board is where you can post about anything you'd like, otherwise, topic specific boards also exist and are usually self explanatory. If you post in the wrong the place, we can always move it to a more suitable location.

Keep in mind most folks here are simply other users/members of JPF (click "join" to get on our newsletter/membership list, it only requires an email address and you'll get our monthly email newsletter (well, usually about 10 times per year based on activities going on).

See you all around! -Brian

Hello! New member from Colorado here. I've been poking around the site for a week or so now; tons of great music and information.

I'm pretty new to this, but from a musical family- Dad still fronts bands and has his whole life. I played drums in several bands when I was younger, but then life got in the way. Came back to music and started learning guitar and harmonica 3 years ago at 41 years old, and my wife and I started performing almost exactly one year ago, mainly in central Colorado, with a couple of gigs in other states. We've hit it hard and done a ton of live shows. I've been writing originals for a little over a year... I'll post some mp3's up in the mp3 forum.

My wife also signed up here as "Bonnie Abbzug"(though her name is Tami :lol) -she was classically trained and at one point wanted to sing opera... now I have her singing hillbilly music. :lol

We'll lurk a bit and get a feel for the place. Thanks!

I haven't been around in awhile, so I thought I should stop in here and re introduce myself.

I'm in the Charlotte North Carolina area, I'm mainly just a lyricist but have a guitar and can strum a little. I'm inclined to be musical, but not really musicaly inclined.

Greetings,
Ran across this site a few years ago when I was toying with recording some of my own songs. Well, I guess I am actually going to do it now. Figured there are a lot of good resources here to assist. Thanks!

alo alo, jsm here...

been making digital music for a while and always been getting the JPF newsletter but never actually took the plunge and signed up to the forum. anyway, i have done that now and thankyou very much for accepting me...

got myself a little in-house digital recording studio, and loads of guitars hanging on the walls, and occasionaly get the korg 01 and the AKG phantom Mike out when im feelin inspired... (need to replace some of the keys now as they are a little worn like me)

I never forget over 10years ago joining the Musicians Union in UK to get out of an OK contract (i just knew in my heart of hearts something was wrong and in hindsite my god given intuition was right) i got to know some MU members and really enjoyed the metting of like minded souls out there...

also a looong time ago, i got in touch with about 10 or so up and coming artists thru the classified ads section of the Future Music and Mix Magazine, to promote my mixing talents and mixed a few of them too. i think one of them is now signed...

me, im very happy now giving my songs away free of charge online, promoting my drum loops, and mixing (excuse the pun) and mingling with like minded souls like yourselves...

thankyou for letting me join your forum and i do hope to play my small but humble part here in the near future..

Hi I'm Rusty, nice to meet everyone!

Saw this site and seems like a cool way to connect to other musicians.

I've been playing/writing/recording music for years, usually just for friends or the dog smile I like making music in a grunge/rock style with my guitar, or explore wherever the synthesizer takes me. I've playing open mics in S. Korea, Japan, and the U.S., and had a lot of fun meeting a cool crowd of people.

Recently I wrote an acoustic based album using my synth for backup on drums, bass, keys, strings, etc..

Thanks for letting me join!!

Hey Rusty. So Denver eh. Are you an Avs fan? You guys have such a young, talented team. Duchene, MacKinnon, O'Reilly, all got gold today at the worlds. They'll win the Stanley Cup in a few years. I'll check out some of your songs. Welcome to JPF. =]

Thanks I appreciate it! I like the Avs well enough; grew up in MI so Red Wings maybe a little more. That's fightin' words around these parts though. I get pretty psyched when Broncos season comes around though smile

Hi everyone! I’m a Paris (France)-based songwriter. I truly consider myself first and foremost a story-teller when I take a pen in my right hand and start laying down what comes to mind: an emotion, a thought or a wish. While I have fun developing my craft and honeying what it comes from within, it is always somehow striking how strong and powerful these words are when they are put together!
Though I’m a lyricist, I think the melody comes first! You better have something nice to enjoy on the table if you don’t want to be hungry forever! But nice colors and framing also help in being thankful for what you are presented with.
I mostly find inspiration in the study of the artistry blissfully given by the greatest: Michael Jackson. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe what he has accomplished and his legacy still lives on (even if there are always people who want to get their piece of the pie, anyway!)
Do you want to please and entertain me? Play me some funky guitars, syncopated electro rhythms, bring in a singer with top-notch vocals, catchy gimmicks and add a few strong lines in the lyrics!
I don’t want to be flown to the moon, I would like to share unprecedented moments of joy while discussing how we could bring this or that tune to the next level!

Cheers

Hi y'all from here in Virginia!

So, I finally took the plunge and signed up here... I played professionally for 15 years before getting a "real job." I just refit my home studio to computer based recording, and I'm putting all my energies back into music and songwriting. No more touring for me as that was exhausting but I will be teaching guitar and writing full time now.

I write mostly on the softer side of rock and some jazz, although I have been known to write the occasional country or hard rock tune. I am pretty good on guitar and I can play the piano; I just wish my voice was better so be gentle if I post demos! Anyway, I am hoping to meet other songwriters and musicians of all genres and abilities.

Seeyas around the forums,
TC

If it has strings I will find a way to play it!

Hi, I'm new to JPF. My interest is in lyric writing for songs and poetry. I'm not a musician. However, along with co-writer Jeffrey Ullsperger we have had about 40 demo's produced. They are on www.broadjam.com/lyrics. RossM.
