Differ, I just took a listen. Great sounding song. Reminds me of stuff Brian Wilson was doing during Smiley Smile. I liked that and I like this. You got a real sense of melody, harmony and rhythm and your production is pro level. What more does a guy need? Man, this is poppin' rock n roll.

Thank you for the nice words, Lisa! We have been harmonizing together since the mid-seventies. And all three of us have songwriting skills. Like Clint Eastwood says..."When it stops being fun, you won't see me doing it!"

One of the reasons we opted for the name "the differenz", is that everything seems to come out different than the "norm". But at a certain point, we just allow our imaginations to take over. Thanks, Dan, for the notice!

differenzmusic is a good handle for you. You do like to do different stuff and different is good! Nice production and changes in the music. really cool. You don't hear this stuff if you just listen to the radio! Actually, we have a pretty good indie station here locally (PBS) and it plays a lot of off-beat (but good) stuff.

Yeah....like Dan mentioned there is a Smiley Smile vibe here but presented in a bit of an Indie package. We like!
This is a really inventive arrangement and, yep, it's different but in a grab your attention and not let go manner.
Ending? I like the scatting notion.
Kudos!

Hi Diff:
I assume I'm commenting to Robert Malin. Interesting lyric and when I clicked on the link I was directed to your page, moved down to "Pop Pop" and instead of hearing the song, I got a downloading symbol... so I quickly clicked it away. Judging by the comments of others, you have a unique style and I'll do my best to come back and give a listen later.
Just wanted you to know in case there is a technical problem.
Best of luck and yes, I like the name you guys have chosen for your music entity.
Dave

Hey, J&B...
Thanks again for a nice review. Two people mentioned the Smiley Smile thing but I'm thinking I've never heard it will have to go take a listen. I am working on the scatting now and will repost after it hits the studio...

Hey Diff,
This is definitely diff, Diff! I'm hearing many ideas, but hard to verbalize. I couldn't custom re-play short sections over without listening to the whole song to better explore what I was hearing and feeling.
This is cool, overall, I think this song will work best with a total time of about 3.5 - 4 tops. I think it is so catchy and different, that after repeating the chorus twice, I might opt for an outro that engages two or three different vocals that are each different yet syncopated. The Beatles did similar endings that almost acted as long bridges that faded and never came back. Iggy would be a great "ear" for this, as he explores these Beatle-esk abstract bridges and outros, as do I somewhat as well.
This song to me has some influences over several time periods of popular music. Many avenues to pursue for sure. I could see either going fairly abstract or even an African/Lion King vibe. Whichever/whatever, should be fun! Neat start here!

Hey, Steady....
Thank you sir, for your input. We don't know what to really do until we get back together mid December or early January. So now we are gathering ideas and yours will be considered for then! My songwriting guitar is a little Ovation. So sometimes I will turn it over in the middle of songwriting and "drum" on the back to try to find tempos and beats. As far as the "African" type of beat, I am going to come up with a whole new song idea in the realm of Totos "Africa" or "The Vanishing Race" (which is American Indian, but you get the idea!) Something like those! Thanks for the inspiration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Diff

Robert,
Super cool. Entertaining. Totally. Catchy to the max.
Couldn't help thinking Devo through the whole thing.
Terrific recording and mix. One of your best in that regard.

Hey, FJ...
Thank you for the super-positive review! It is so ironic how we are just now "finding ourselves" musically. I have been trying to convince my partner to allow some "older stuff" of ours on the airways. She doesn't like the idea for pretty good reason. First off, the recordings are "ancient"! Then, there are former members of "the differenz" who do not like us to wave their performances around. All good points. But I will still lobby to get one or two old songs up in here so you guys can hear the sound we had when we launched our life-long project....

Very interesting / cool sound in the break. Love the percussion through out and the killer vocals. I do get the Brian Wilson reference, your vocals / harmonies are simply outstanding. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but I see you're getting some excellent suggestions from more capable folks. To this point it sounds fine to my ears. I look forward to hearing it progress. all the best with it. U Crazy Kids.

The song is essentially about the hindsight involved after the twenty year run of a single dad raising his children. But has been applied also to a passel of grandchildren talking to their grampa!

I agree with Kimberly that having more clarity in the lyrics would be helpful. Maybe I just didn't understand what the song is talking about. I guessed from some of the wording that there is a single dad who loved and took good care of his kids. But I wasn't sure what the meteor part was about; who is the "you" in the phrase "so the earth would never misbehave around you?" I think the music is awesome, though I especially liked hearing the harmonizing acapella part. The rhythm is catchy and the song has a fun, upbeat sound.

I do understand that I leave mystery in my lyrics. But I get in trouble when I second-guess myself. So over the years I have learned not to do that. I have said it before but it bears repeating...some of the the best music EVER has had lyrics that seem to make no sense at all, even to this day. So my advice is to not second-guess yourself as a songwriter. And thank you for the review...very much...

Hi,
A very catchy tune that carries you along with it for cool ride around the amusement park!.. The only thing I would do is cut the breaths (an easy edit) before the lyrics. Good song!

Hey, Iggy...
You are right. We were sucking air and no one realized it until much later. That session went nine days and twelve hours per day and we got fatigued. Will fix when we get back in the studio. Thank you very much!!
