So far I hate it. I've lost programs, things I could do before on my old PC I can't do on this one, it's a all new learning curve, even here on JPF things are different. I don't think Music Match is going to work for me, I use to use it to convert from wav to mp3, what do I use now?

Loads of free converters out there Everett. I use the "Lame" one that comes with my DAW. Vic

Ha, yesterday my boot drive died on my old dell vostro 400 with Vista! I guess today I get to find out if the windows image thing really works. A lot of people don't seem that happy out there about it after going through some googleing. I have the original vista disk, so I will let you all know how it worked out.

Aw, Well, My old HP Computer XP Circa 2005 is getting a bit long in the tooth, (the one I am using here)but still does most of what I need it to do. I have a ton of Photos in the computer but printing them out sometimes would leave a streak on the prints so I (finally) bought a new computer for my photos. HP is still selling their Windows 7 of which works much like those before the new one that has all those fancy things on the Monitor. I don't like the latest version and I understand HP is giving those that want it the ability to revert to Windows 7 if they want in the latest version. I have been putting my photos in the new computer by copying them to CD and then installing them in the new computer. Well who said anything was easy!

I'm not a big fan of Audacity for most recording use, BUT it is great for converting WAV files to MP3. I do use it for that, and it's a free application too.

Just to let everyone know, the image thing worked out OK -- sort of. Because I install some programs on the d:\ drive, windows imaging required that both the c:\ and d:\ drives be restored!!!! Arghhh!!! So I went about backing a few things on d:\ that are not in my normal backup and then restored.
Worked like a champ. Of course my image was over a year old so I lost a few things. But none of the things that really, really matters (work related and songs) were not lost.
Lessons learned: 1.) Back up more than once a week (ha, ha). 2.) take an image snapshot more than once a year! 3.) look at alternative image programs that allow you to separate the c:\ and d:\ drives -- no matter what you install. 4.) make a million in the stock market so you don't care if you lose anything.

Not to promote a product. I'm not getting ching ching saying it. I bought this slimline pc from Dell called an Optiplex. It looks to be just as user friendly as my laptop. PC's hold up much better with recordings.
I get these prompts every now and again on the net to back up my pc. I notice that they even state that they look at my browsing habits. I get some flash drives and cd-rw's to back everything up. Make that a first priority now with a new computer purchase. Because if I don't it will come back to haunt me.
