I've picked up this odd habit of getting on youtube for about an hour, twice a week...after session day ends, and plugging into a little practice amp and wailing and flailing along to backing tracks posted there.....I've noticed the soloing is less rusty, the more I do this. Anyone else know about these?
great (quick and easy) way of blowing some dust off the chops.
one just has to search "backing tracks for guitar/bass" ect.

Yeah, youtube can be a wealth of music education, I find that most songs that I want to learn are on there by somebody, half of them are wrong, but you can find the right one.
Somebody had a cool blues track, which I turned around and wrote a melody and lyrics to, never shared it with them, cause I didnt plan on using it for anything.
Band in the Box is best for your purposes, enter whatever chord progression you want, and not having to rely on the chords they provide.

Sounds useful, but the backing tracks uploaded to youtube are free. Years ago, I used to record my own basic backing to solo over.....pain in the ass.

yeah Mac,i kinda use it as karaoke when i need a track to put vocals on.I've recorded over someones instrumental of the velvet underground "venus in furs" and Poptodd's son's violin teachers instrumental of Hendrix's "red house" unfortunately though i have to mic up my pc speakers to do this so the sound isn't the best.

Hey Mike,
all you need is to get a browser video downloader for most YouTube vids. With some like Vevo however you will need a Vevo specific downloader. Normally in your browsers option menu you can search for these add ons or extensions.

I like finding great songs from yesterday often from musicians that are not as commonly heard of on you tube. But there is something different with just hearing that instrument. Very instructional. There is not the learning ropes in a musician friends room on the net. I would like to check out these places that do recordings strictly for instrument. That will be interesting.
