This has undergone a few different versions and tweaks. Started as a simple folk song, then it was a country song, even tried a partial hip hop version. Settled on Pop, think I solved the riddle

The Future Is Rosie

Juan's sittin' on the fire escape
listenin to a Prince tape
through a flea market player
he bought for 5 bucks

He's takin in the havoc
of rush hour traffic
just eatin some popcorn
and damnin his luck

Only one thing's different from the typical day
He see's the lovely Rosie comin his way

The Future is Rosie
There's a reason to smile
an angel moved in here
she's gonna be here a while
Like a drunk in a bowery
who just found a key
push open the door...
The Future is Rosie

She's headed towards the clothesline
laundry smellin so fine
spreadin nothin but sunshine
on the brick of this hood

and he thinks... life is worth livin
cause the signal she's been givin
tells him somethin's lyin out there
and that somethin's lookin good

Still only one thing's different from the typical day
the two of them forgot about yesterday

The Future is Rosie
There's a reason to smile
an angel moved in here
she's gonna be here a while
Like a drunk in a bowery
who has just found a key
push open the door...
The Future is Rosie

Now he's making plans to get his G.E.D.
With Rosie on his side
there's no telling what could be

The Future is Rosie
There's a reason to smile
an angel moved in here
she's gonna be here a while
Like a drunk in a bowery
who has just found a key
push open the door...
The Future is Rosie

Bugsey,

You "got your Billy Joel on" for that one! Cool story. Interesting.

Since it sounded like BJ from the 52nd Street days, I kept thinking a sax would sound good on this..

The vocal jumps out a bit every once in a while - needs to be tamed in spots... perhaps with some reverb? so it sits in the mix better..

Enjoyed.

Thanks Floyd. Yeah I know what you mean about the vocal, the song has alot of cadences in it, I tried a few different mixes, one with a trail delay which sounded cool, but I felt the words couldnt be heard.

There is some reverb but oddly the verse you hear it more than you do in the chorus. I think it is because the verse more nuanced, you got a major, a major 7th, and a 6th going down the scale as the verse melody, in the chorus it's more power less finesse.

I probably should have done each part seperately, as opposed to all at once, I did splice the parts but I wasnt thinking about the volume of each part, I just sang it.

So, I reached a mix i could live with for the time being. Glad you liked the song, Ive always liked the lyric and wanted to get it done!

Thanks again.

Excellent Story! Well, well written lyrics. I like where you're aiming with the melody and feel. It would make a good show tune.

Hello, Something about this song that is so cool to me...
Billy Joel meets crash test dummies...

I would like to hear all versions of this song. I tend to think this would be better if you lean "just a bit" to the country side.

I could feel the sonic brush strokes!
You are a true artist!

Peace!
Dave

Spelling and grammer are not my thing, so excuse the type-Os...

Iffin I don't review your song, sorry, I'm trying to stay with styles I like. But I do listen to all on 2 pages when I have time. \:\)

It is a nice write, I like the music, but the vocal needs to be ironed out.

It is confusing, you are doing country things in the vocal that doesn't match the subject matter or music. It is giving off the confusion of your genre you write about in the description.

I like the song, I hear the potential. Just my opinion.

Bugsey,

Very, very, interesting. I was looking also what others above have said, and agree pretty much with all, and hear what Tammy was referring to especially. This song sounds a bit like your lead vox is part Billy Joel, Styx, and Chris Kristofferson.

I like the variations on one hand and really like hearing a song with this much range and appreciate that quality with this song--so many monotone songs out there with cute chorus hooks like "cookie-cutter" songs IMO. Having said this, I do think you need to settle on a style first, then make sure your vox matches that style etc. I'm also wondering what this would sound like a step down or maybe even a half step down?

I might also IMO consider dropping the name (Juan) with the first verse commencement, and starting with "sitting." (you are then immediately starting with "action" out of the gate grammar-wise). If it's important getting Juan's name within the song, you have a couple other options there anyway.

This chorus is fairly sophisticated as is the tune perhaps for current stuff--but I applaud your artistry there. Great lyrics and interesting story/expressions. I think you have potentially a pretty cool tune here IMO. Nice work!

Thanks Eddie, I actually just re sang this. I didnt find it confusuing at all, if I hadnt said anything..

But I did want to see if I could get it to sit better in the mix, so i just re did it. now i need to remix.

This is not the record either way, so it shouldnt matter all that much.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Refreshing.
Interesting vocal too. Never knew what was coming next
(which is a good thing imho).
Love the outro.

Interesting stuff. Right off the bat, something about the way the verses flowed didn't sit quite right with me.. I'm just not sure I liked the phrasing of it or the pause in the middle of it. I thought the chorus was very strong, and carried the song as is. I'm not sure what I would recommend for the verses, I'd have to play around with it a little. Just my opinion though, I thought overall this was a good piece of work, has a lot of potential. Good luck with it my man

Thanks Avweek, Try out a new mix see if you like it better. Redid vocal added some delay to help carry it

Hi Bugsey.

This now definitely sounds pop and consistently so. I normally wouldn't think that I would like this much delay on the lead vox with this type of song, but it works here quite well for me here. It might even be cool with the "Rosie exclamation" at the end of the chorus to add more delay there only. Music & vox now seems more congruous, I never found it confusing, just initially different approaches vox-wise. I think Billy Joel would really like this tune!

Nice job, nice song! I'm digging this song!

Ok I did.
I like it better. It's a good song.
I did notice the drums seem to be playing in a different room than everybody else, like he is Billy No-Mates, but maybe that's how you wanted it.

Thanks Eddie, I think the delay helps it swing since the music is playing and 8th note feel, the delay counters it, thats my story and im sticking with it!

Hmm, the way im doing it, when the whole mix is open it chews too much CPU, so I have to do the music first and mix it down, then do the vocal,, so I dont have as much control over it as I would like. Least not till I get a stand alone unit or upgrade the pc.

Thanks for the ears, Ill have to look at that again!
