Maybe another for the history album. How's the mix sound to you? Long enough? I will be grateful for your thoughts. Vic Soundcloud here http://snd.sc/1eiGa6mSoundcloud (with sound effects) http://snd.sc/1lfJgAQSoundclick here http://sclk.co/s7jsp7Quantrill's Coming © Vic Arnold 2014 They got pinfire revolvers. That'll knock you right down. Got some fired up people who'll lay waste to this damned town. Lock up your farms and houses or maybe better start running or grab yourself a rifle. Quantrill's a coming! Better start running! Quantrill's coming! Bloody Bill with Frank and Jessie too. Yeah you'd better start hiding or come out fighting. Quantrill's coming and he's coming after you. They were going about their businesses in banks and schools and stores Calling for emancipation and an end to the bloody war Kill 'em all that can shoot a gun, let me hear those bullets humming The cry went up as they hit the dirt. Quantrill's a coming! Better start running! Quantrill's coming! Bloody Bill with Frank and Jessie too. Yeah you'd better start hiding or come out fighting. Vic, I was reaching for the Winchester before you got through the first verse. I can hear the galloping hoofbeats approaching as I listen to this one. This is one that begs for a video. I can see Johnny Cash and Willie saddling up to this song. The lyrics, like the music, are right on the money. Somebody in Nashville should find a place for this on their next CD.

Vic,
I really like this. Vivid lyrics! A fitting melody that moves along nicely.
Sounds great. Nice tone on the guitar. The driving bass is great. The organ underneath works well... Very well put together. Terrific vocal.
And definitely just the right length - says what it needs to say...
Enjoyed it.

Wow Vic,
I loved this--music perfect for the lyrics. Great rhythm to this song and loved the leslie organ sound. Cool character subject, I'm familiar with Quantrill. He was born in the county here in Ohio where I live. There is a museum here that boasts having his skull. I've seen it, but they admit they can't prove it is his, but feel 75% sure that it is his from their records.
No nits from me, I think this one is one of your best! That drummer sounds familiar?

Eddie. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes I read about his bones being scattered at one time. Most of the production is BIAB including the drummer. Thanks for listening. Vic

Hi Vic,
You don't hear that much about badasses coming out of Ohio:)I had to do a google on him. I had no idea. Now I know. A well told tale, tight lyrics and a good sound from your band. A little touch of old Dire Straits/Mark Knofler. Well done.

Masterful, Vic. Love the lead guitar and B-3 sound. Great story telling. You sure have the American West history down for a Limey, haha.

Hey Vic,
A very nice one from you. Now I have to Google Quantrill too. A history album is a cool idea. This would also fit really well if there was ever a Hollywood production based on his life on the production table. I liked the guitar stuff going-on especially. Your voice and guitar did make me think of Dire Straits a little. You have a very distinct voice.

Vic, I found an episode from a '50s TV show about Quantrill's Raiders. You may have seen it or not. If you haven't, you might enjoy it. Others might also. I did. Stories of the Century. Quantrill's Raiders.

Hi Ricki. No, I am sure they're all nice people there. I heard about Quantrill when I was at school. (Don't ask why). And yes, when I started to record this, Mark Knopfler came into my head and swayed me that way. Thank you for the support. Vic

Hey Vic,
Your best yet and that is a very high bar to top. Man, do I love your picking and your vocal is just out of this world. I love your historical songs. All good here. A true winner. I dare say one of the best I have heard on this site. Ready for radio.

Hey Vic,
Your voice is just great mate.
The song itself, and it's tone reminds me of "Eyes Wide Shut" where that sound from Chris Isaac in "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing" is just haunting and memorable.
I think it's a very adaptable tune, and could be altered/changed lyrically to suit quite a number of different scenarios.
It's a scene stealer in the right time and place.
cheers, niteshift

Vic, In the TV show, "Stories of the Century - Quantrill's Raiders" did you catch the part where the union spy escapes Quantrill's band and rides into town shouting "Quantrill's coming!" The scriptwriter did it just like in your song!!!!

Janice and I are history buffs - big time. And our specialty are is the Civil War (USA) so I listened with particular interest.
First I commend you on the mention of "pin fires." I detest anachronisms and so much writing of this period is full of them particularly when it comes to weapons. Pardon the rant!
This is a great write in the story telling tradition for which so little is heard nowadays and that is a shame.
This songs works on every level. Your historical accuracy, the lyric, the arrangement and your vocal wonderfully support the delivery of the story.
We really enjoyed this one.

I admit I had to look up who Quantrill was...but this is really good Vic! The music and flow is good and so is the story. Your voice sounds especially smooth on this...if they ever have a movie about this, you need to send them this song Kim

Hi Vic,
I sure have missed listening to you so it's fitting that you're song is the 1st one I play today. I see you're still going strong!
The only thing I noticed that you might want to change is fire in the 2nd line since you say pinfire in the 1st line. Truth be told I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't read the lyric, so...:)
You made me want to write something!

I know that place. Sadly, it aint there now. They had an open mic there which I went to once. Been to the actual place numerous times. Findhorn Open Mic is every two/three weeks, and I'm there most times it's on. Also been to the Beach Bar in Lossiemouth (which is also where they hold the Lossiemouth Folk Festival), and the guys there know basically every song in the book of songs (well, I think they do, as they might not, but still), and some of them go to the Findhorn Open Mic aswell, and I should also mention that a certain band that played at the Red Shoes hail from where I am originally from.
