I pledge allegiance to our precious flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for All.
Which should include those fleeing foreign shores to call America their home, and the descendants of those dragged here in chains, made into slaves, whipped to the bone, we often forget that our "own" ancestors left their homes to reach this land, but when your life is through God has a place for you, if you've mistreated [color:#3333FF]your fellowman. Chorus-
Because we all will be just immigrants when we reach God's heavenly shores, death is Ellis Island, a checkpoint reached when we're done dying, to face forevermore, and we'd better have our records straight when we reach that heavenly gate, Saint Pete's a sharp eyed guy, access will be denied and it will be too late.[color:#CC0000]
So I pledge allegiance to all the folks who inhabit this great country, in the melting pot that holds the best we've got all yearning to breathe free, because God's skin is multi-colored, he has no tolerance for hate, He's made it very clear, that he holds all of us dear, we must fo likewise to cross his gate [color:#3333FF]
Chorus-
Because we all will be just immigrants when we reach God's heavenly shores, death is Ellis Island, a checkpoint reached when we're done dying, to face forevermore, and we'd better have our records straight when we reach that heavenly gate, Saint Pete's a sharp eyed guy, access will be denied and it will be too late[color:#CC0000]

Very unique song MFB, I would love to hear it put to music. It has a lot of visual imagery. This is my favorite verse, especially the line God's skin is multi-colored.
So I pledge allegiance to all the folks who inhabit this great country, in the melting pot that holds the best we've got all yearning to breathe free, because God's skin is multi-colored, he has no tolerance for hate, He's made it very clear, that he holds all of us dear, we must feel likewise to cross his gate
Nice inspiring lyrics

Hey Summer, Thanks for the read, it's kind of my finger pointing at folks who wear "What would Jesus do?" t-shirts, and then turn around and dis an immigrant or a person of another color. And to all the patriots who believe America is only for a select few, and to all the folks who have jobs, and love to call any of the jobless lazy, I have been out of work in the past, even lived in my car for months, even while I was working, a low wage job... and yet managed to get back on my feet in my life, because enough people in this country believed I had potential at that time. God does not buy into segregation of any kind, we are expected by him to help the needy, feed the poor, welcome all into our lives regardless of what race, creed, religion or social status they may have. And there is a penalty for not doing this. Because most of these poor folks are gonna be in heaven, and how is God gonna mix their persecutors into their glory, and maintain a place of peace for all. Thanks for your kind comments, the music is up under the Mp3 forum.~~Matt

I know exactly what your talking about, I was shopping the other day and watched a young girl rummaging through garbage looking for food. That inspired me to go home and write "They're My Sisters and Brothers". I haven't finished it yet, but it's Christian Folk if there is such a thing. In the song I talk about how God says we are are brothers keepers etc. I've been writing a lot of Christian lyrics lately. So I can identify with your lyrics. Matt I'm looking forward to hearing your lyrics. Your song writing is very creative and unique. I can't think of anybody you're lyrics are like. and that's good, because as I said before it makes them one of a kind

I take a lot of ribbing here, mostly good natured, about being "the poet", too poetic, and not conversational enough in my lyrics, but a song is the purest form of poetry, and so I say right on and I write on. I am looking forward to your new song: "They're my sisters and brothers." I am leaving you with a song about your name.
Summer Rose.
She was a Summer rose and I was just the thorns, beneath her lovely face, always gazing upward with a pointed look, at her beauty and grace, hidden beneath her leaves when she'd fade away in the wintertime, left with little to stem the cold and loneliness when she was no longer mine....
Chorus-
But Summer Roses and thorns were never meant to be romantically inclined, A rose will brighten the day A thorn keeps others away, to let her beauty shine.
Seems it's always that way often our dreams make us pay, with love that cannot be, too often I've been that thorn, left all alone and forlorn with something less rosy.
Summer roses often fall in love with a bee who helps them pollinate, but when their love takes his fill he buzzes off at his will to find another lovely mate... while the stinger he carried was hoping he could tarry in the sweet perfume she wore, even nature knows heartbreak when it's forced to forsake the Summer it adored.
Chorus-
Summer Roses and thorns were never meant to be romantically inclined, A rose will brighten the day A thorn keeps others away, to let her beauty shine.
Seems it's always that way often our dreams make us pay, with love that cannot be, too often I've been that thorn, left all alone and forlorn with something less rosy.

Matt, This is almost theatrical. The Pledge of Allegiance setting the stage for a poem about racial tolerance and inclusion. I can hear the rat-a-tat-tat of a snare drum playing softly during the recitation of the Pledge.
I also like the line - "we all will be just immigrants when we reach God's heavenly shore." That's a helluva hook. You could build an entire song around the use of that line in a chorus.

Love the concept Matt.I'm no bigot, racist or for that matter homophobic but there are certain sections of my country that will not try to become part of the melting pot and prefer to go their own way on many issues, thus causing a divide. Like the way you have crafted this lyric and for me it works, right through to the Pearly Gates Travis

Hey Joe, thanks for checking this one out. it needs to be said, we are all immigrants eventually, and a green card to heaven requires caring for everyone on earth in some manner. ~~Matt

"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
