I don't watch any of the audition shows -- I just don't care to see either the sad ones who don't know any better or the few who realize their only chance to be on TV is to be really bad or really outrageous.

However, when it gets to the top 20 or so, the talent is pretty good, the band's live, and these folks have to learn a new song (or 2) each week working with stars that might leave us weak at the knees. I don't how they keep up. Even last year's "joke" (who was that kid with the crazy hair?), was actually decent -- WHEN HE PICKED the right songs (yea, he did butcher that Bonnie Raitt song).

I think all of the final 8 or so have to be mentally pretty tough.
