Three Chords and a Chorus
by Dan Monk

If you want to try and write a big hit song
you can't make it over three minutes long.
Get them to hum to the melody
with a hook they'll be singing eternally.

Three chords and a chorus
is all you really need
three chords and a chorus
yessiree

gotta get to the hook in thirty seconds or less
if you want the man to be impressed.
If the vocals are clear and the chorus takes off
they won't be able to get enough

Three chords and a chorus
is all you really need
three chords and a chorus
yessiree

You can write sweet songs of love
explore the human tragedy.
but if you break the rules
you'll never be on MTV

Three chords and a chorus
is all you really need
three chords and a chorus
yessiree

These aren't all the rules to a big hit song,
I think they make em up as you go along.
Ya gotta play their game and jump thru their hoops
if you wanna be a star and that's no poop.

three chords and a chorus
are all you really need
three chords and a chorus
will make the young girls scream
three chords and a chorus
yessiree
