Stu makes a good point. Doing stupid things won't kill your career. But a long pattern of pissing people off is going to make it all a lot tougher and if you're on the fence as to whether you're good enough to get a deal or help or an opportunity, those types of things may be the tipping point. And if you do still make it on some level you may find the view up there less enjoyable without any friends to share it with.
