Yes, and shame on Beethoven for his variations on "God Save the King" or Mozart's variations on "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". Not to mention hundreds of other variations from songs. Also, anyone making cover songs would fall into the same category of using someone else's work (known as renditions). Ha, ha... John
