Words By Elvis And Shade , obviously I hate mirrors .

Most days I don’t think about it,
I get up, roll on, chase the sun.
Still laugh like that kid I used to be,
Like the wild years ain’t done.
But that glass in the mornin’ light
Shows a man who’s lost that fight.
Don’t look in the mirror,
It don’t tell the truth.
Inside I’m still twenty-one,
Still chasin’ somethin’ new.
But that reflection’s a stranger,
Carryin’ all my years.
Don’t look in the mirror—
It’ll make ya old too soon.
My hands still reach for some old dream,
My heart still burns the same.
But these lines on my face keep whisperin’
Time don’t play no games.
So I keep my eyes on the open road,
Not what the gray hair shows.
Don’t look in the mirror,
It don’t tell the truth.
Inside I’m still twenty-one,
Still chasin’ somethin’ new.
But that reflection’s a stranger,
Carryin’ all my years.
Don’t look in the mirror—
It’ll make ya old too soon.
Maybe it’s mercy, maybe it’s mean,
How the years slip in between.
I still feel young till I see that ghost—
That old man starin’ back at me.
Don’t look in the mirror,
It don’t tell the truth.
Inside I’m still twenty-one,
Still runnin’ on the loose.
But that reflection’s a stranger,
Livin’ where I’ve been.
Don’t look in the mirror—
Just keep rollin’ again.

“Don’t Look in the Mirror” came out of one of those late-night talks where Shade and Elvis got to laughing about how, no matter how many miles they’ve logged, they still feel twenty-one inside — right up until the mirror tells a different story. It wasn’t about vanity or regret, just that strange truth of getting older while the same wild heart keeps beating. They wrote it as a nod to every road-worn soul who’s still chasing what moves ‘em, even if the face looking back has a little more gray than it used to. Elvis will die , Shade never will.

We’re all built from the same dust and dreams,
Different roads, but the same means.
