We All Get What’s Coming to Us ©2025 Robert George

I needed to reflect on life,
So I took a slow, cross-country drive
Cos sometimes we all need a little revival
Well, I drove after dark alone,
Listenin’ to James Earl Jones
Read the Gospels in the King James Bible

I thought of murderers and thieves
I’ve seen ‘em all and still believe
That the hand of God is not unjust
And we all get what’s coming to us

Well, Jose once patrolled the New York streets,
One of the proud mounted police
The saddle of his mare was the best view of the city
In his tenth year on the force,
Some mugger shot his horse
He caught and killed that mugger without pity

Reporters said Jose got his due
He did twenty years for murder two
They said the hand of God is not unjust
We all get what’s coming to us

Well, I met Jose outside that prison gate
He recognized me and called it fate
Told him I’d retired to an Idaho horse ranch
And this old judge needs a new top hand

Jose was quiet all the way home
As we listened to James Earl Jones
Yes, the hand of God is not unjust
We all get what’s coming to us

Sometimes we all need a little revival…
