Two days ago, my daughter Niamh (it's a Gaelic name, pronounced Neev) left on a long trip that will take her to several countries in Europe. I wrote her this song, which I hope is both specific (it's for her, after all) and universal in that I'm sure many parents know the feelings that inspired it.

NIAMH THE BRAVE & BEAUTIFUL
(Words & Music by Gavin Sinclair)

Often I can't find the words to say what's in my heart
I guess I just assume that you must know
And only in a moment when it's time for us to part
Do I find a way to let my feelings show
And so we’ve come to today
Tomorrow you'll be far away
Time to let my heart speak and come right out and say
I love you
And you make me so proud

You're Niamh the Brave and Beautiful
A cup of life for you to fill
So much that's new to feel
It's time for you to go
I smile as I kiss you
But I already miss you
And I hope that this you
Already know

I guess I'm scared that the words will come out wrong
If I just look at you and speak 'em
So I pour them from my heart into a song
When they don't seem right I can tweak 'em
They're feeble and they're few
But I guess they'll have to do
Across the ocean I'm sending them to you
I love you
And you make me so proud

You're Niamh the Brave and Beautiful
A cup of life for you to fill
So much that's new to feel
And see, and be
So much to tell me when
I have you back again
From over the sea

Time to let my heart speak and say the words out loud
I love you
And you make me so proud
