Lane's poem "Direction" hits upon a theme that, to me at least, just resonates. This one--"getting gone"--I think strikes a similar theme, and I've always thought of it as a sequel of sorts to my poem "Concrete Canyons," which I've posted previously.
getting gone
come love let’s slip skins and shed the last whispers of self
let’s chase the midnight wind and dance naked silvered in moonlight
let’s loose these shackled souls and embrace boundless spirit
this night can serve to heal our endless hurts
why let their gray and dying earth bind us their colorless skies drain us their clean, straight lines define us
why stay prey to those whose lives are less bound when others are less free
come love, let’s leave the world we know; the one that claims us— and get gone.
haven’t we lived here long enough

"Defeatist Pessimists and Rose Colored Glasses Optimists are lonely companions, victims even. Both ideologies imply predestined outcomes, and therefore breed inactivity in its victims. Inaction is the only sure way to lose at anything in life. All positive action guarantees at least a fighting chance." -Brian Austin Whitney
