It's a lot to do with equalisation of the parts I believe.
For example if you want the kick drum to stand out you take the low frequency out of the bass guitar. Also the quality of your speakers and the state of your eardrums. Then there's compression and reverb. Oh, but if it was that simple everyone could do it.
