Several weeks ago a lyricist who I thought was very talented, attended one of our weekly Las Vegas Songwriters Association (LVSA) meetings and presented what I felt was a well-crafted set of lyrics. I could already hear a country rock vibe brewing in my head the first time I heard the words. Being she was a true lyricist (played no instruments nor had any musical background) we collaborated on this song. Here's what I came up with, but please bear in mind that despite my having some instruments and a digital 8-track recorder, I didn't have a female vocalist.Meaning yours truly had to sing it... So - for your listening pleasure (or hysterics), here is an old guy trying to sing a decidedly female country rocker type of lyric - please visualize Reba M. (we wish!) or similar with a kinda gruff, bass-ranged vocal: "STAMPEDE" (C) 2011 by D. Wadley & C. Wong Well I don't know but I've been told It takes time to find good love They say it ain't right or ladylike To just give in to lust But rules are made for breakin' and hearts need to be taken And boys might know what girls need But I'm a woman not a girl You wanna rock my world It's gonna take a stampede CHORUS: Completely unforgivable ruthless unstoppable Passion raging out of control Trampling my every will praying pleading begging 'til I'm swept away heart and soul I need to hear the roar of thunder When there ain't a storm cloud to be seen You got a kiss you think can move the earth for me Then bring on the stampede Win or lose I follow my own rules Guess it's the cowgirl kind of way I ain't the kind to be coy and no good ol' boy Is gonna tell me how to play I like fast cars and loud guitars I got a reckless rebel creed I'll tell you right from the start You want a piece of my heart It's gonna take a stampede (to CHORUS) I will be introducing her to this site shortly so any and all constructive comments would sure be nice to help get her feet wet!
Best Regards and Aloha,
Charlie

hi charlie, not sure why this had no comments, but it is a very good song imo. at one point reminicent of a deep purple vibe (this could imo make a great metal song as well as country rock.) you have a good voice, enjoyed that too. the words work for me, the music and arrangement all worked. it's a "wow" in my book lacking only a good old richie blackmore solo. thanx for sharing it. i'm now going to enjoy it again and imagine the richie b. solo.
cheers, dmk

dmk, coming from you these great comments are not taken lightly!
Thanks very much, and I'm sure Kelly would appreciate them too! Hopefully she'll be on here soon.

I get Blondie, or Gracie Slick, it's a powerful song, begging for that rush of loving that leaves one hanging by their fingernails when the dust clears. It will be nice to hear a female vocalist belting this onr out. Perhaps some fast pace drum playing that mimics the galloping of a herd of horse would add a nice touch after the word stamped. I like it.~~~~MFB III

Nice one. Sounds like a Carrie Underwood song to me.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Think Trish hit the nail on the head, pitch-wise!
Nicely-Done Bro Charlie...(Dayum, WUZ expectin' a Fun Falsetto...heh-heh!) Can't remember whether it was Streisand or Madonna..but there's ONE Gal Star Artist who PREFERS Male Vox on Songs-Pitched-to-Her.)
The Word "STAMPEDE" still needs a pitch-UP there, JMO.
Definitely Kicks-Butt...tho hit me as a bit of a Tongue-Tie-er to sing somea those Stacked Words there. Sorta needs maybe a few more RODEO terms in-there.."Gate/8-Seconds/Leather/Hoofs"...something-more, JMO. "Cowgirl" is fine...but just a tidge more'd help the hook. (If ya changed it to "A cowgirl kinda way" I'll bet you could pitch it to CHER..as-is.)(& she's Right Down The Street, ain't she?)
Good Luck with a Good'n', Amigo & New Chum! Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

MFB III, thanks for the getting the sentiment of the song. We wanted to make it feel like she been done run over by a herd of wild mustangs or something when she was through...!
Tricia, grateful for your time in taking a listen, and yeah, thanks for thinking of it being good for Carrie. I'll call her tomorrow...hee hee.
StanDaMan - great ideas, may incorporate some of'em, especially the one about lifting the melody UP when singing The Stampede. Funny you mentioned the rodeo terms, Kelly's son actually competes and travels to various rodeos around the country!
But to be honest I think we were going for stampede out in the wold wooly open ranges.
Best Regards and Aloha,
Charlie

Nice Mr. Wong, I would've liked to hear a third verse or bridge that would being out the likes of Ms.Underwood's or Reba's range but other than that the hook and lyrics were excellent.

Thank you Bo! A bridge would be good if we could think of something to further the story or bring it away from the subject and then go right back into the chorus, but couldn't think of any thing, perhaps the lyricist might consider it -- maybe where the guy (I'm singing as a girl right?) takes her up on it, and finally does give her a STAMPEDE. Hmmm...
Thanks again.
Best Regards and Aloha,
Charlie

Hi Charlie This is very good, and I think you sing it amazingly. Love the lyrics, and yep, I reckon you just need to find a female to sing it, (even though you sing it great). Congratulations to both of you, I'm impressed, and I'd love to listen again if you get a female to sing it for use hey. Hugs Michele

Michele and Mackie,
The time you took to stop by and listen is sincerely appreciated indeed! Thank you both so much for your kind words and encouragement.
There are one or two areas in the words that the lyricist (Kelly) may want to change ("I like fast cars" to, "I like NASCAR", for example, since the singer is a country gal) and then we'll look at a pro demo with female singer...
Best Regards and Aloha,
Charlie
