Tis the season! Tis many seasons, in fact...so why not celebrate them by adding one of your songs to this JPF Holiday Song Thread? No critiques, just a place to compile a nice holiday soundtrack among friends. Feel free to post it here even if it's already posted elsewhere for critique. Lyrics are welcome too! I'll start us out with one of the songs that came out of the Creative Challenge forum last year...words by Mike Dunbar, music by me. Merry Christmas! Or...[insert appropriate happy wish from me and mine to you and yours]! A Classic Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas to all! Kevin ************************************ Red Fire Truck (c) Emmrich 2010Back long ago, I remember a Christmas season my dad always saying that things happen for a reason one year I prayed and hoped, besides a GI Joe, I would get my heart's desire in that toy store window I said "God, I know you're near please tell Santa I was good this year, and can you ask him for me please... (chorus) bring me that red fire truck with the dalmatian and bells and ladders and a siren and you'll never hear me crying if you do this for me you'll have no regrets cause I'll never ask for anything else (verse) Dad got laid off in November tough to pay bills in December mama cried, Dad said, don’t worry, it’s time for gifts went to joe's last chance junkyard scrounged for wheels and truck parts we spent the week fixing, painting, making it look sleek (lift) As I sanded, my daddy hummed His favorite Christmas tune while in my mind the words went (chorus again) (bridge/lift) although I knew what was coming I still ran down to unwrap I swear it was my best Christmas ever almost 30 years later, my son’s request brought back that memory. I guess I could just buy it, but my son deserves a better gift from me You see, he asked me please: (chorus again and tag) Kevin: Vocals, Acoustic Guitar BIAB: drums, bass, acoustic guitars, harmonica

SANTA WRITES HOME copyright 1997 by Dan Sullivan
Every year Santa has to go on a promotional tour to help the toy companies sell their toys. And he has to hit every shopping mall and department store in the country. Before long he gets kinda tired and lonesome. One town begins to look like the next one and the next one after that. Pretty soon, he's just about had it. So one night in a motel room just outside Des Moines, Iowa he wrote this letter home to Mrs. Santa Claus. I was lucky enough to find it on eBay for $32. 98. It was dated Dec. 19, 1947 and looked like it was the original copy of the letter.
I bet I've seen every Salvation Army tree And every department store from sea to shining sea I must have turned the lights on on a million Christmas trees And held every boy and girl in the world on my knee
If I wasn't so busy I'd take you to lunch It sure does get lonely being everywhere at once Your hair is so curly and your skin is so soft I'm gonna drop off these toys and take the next 6 months off
I love the laughing children and their eyes so bright and gay They shine and sparkle like the stars across the Milky Way But sometimes I get lonesome and I wish that you were here I can't wait to get back home, I could use some Christmas cheer
If I wasn't so busy I'd take you to lunch It sure does get lonely being everywhere at once Your hair is so curly and your skin is so soft I'm gonna drop off these toys and take the next 6 months off

ok I have 2...the first was a cowrite with Louis A Boy Named Ben http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7187294 A Boy Named Ben Well he said his name was Ben and he couldn’t hear too good. He was selling Christmas stars, please buy one if you would. Just a dollar for a dozen, you can hang them on your tree It sure would mean a lot, if you bought one from me. He was more then just a little proud of everyone he’d made. I could see it in his eyes when I handed him his pay. Then he pointed to a little house at the end of the road Mom and Dad are always home, anytime you’d like to go Just last Sunday after church, don’t ask me to explain How I found my way to that little house I guess it was ordained Then I knocked on the door and asked the man If he knew a boy named Ben Did he say his name was Ben and he couldn’t hear to good? Was he selling Christmas stars, would you buy one if you would It’s been 15 years since he left, the angels took him home. He couldn’t hear the warming sound, when the driver blew his horn. He said, come on in and sit a spell Ben would want you to And any friend of his is ours just like he said to you I guess it was written in the stars By a little boy named Ben Then they showed me every picture, told a story with each one. Made me feel so right at home, as they talked about their son. Told them all about mom and dad, how they dies one Christmas eve. How I went to an orphans home, with other kids like me. They said, come on in and sit a spell, Ben would want you to And any friend of his is ours, just like he said to you And when I left I thanked god for these stars And a little boy named Ben Tag Well he said his name was Ben and the 2nd is one I did for Beths recovery album Angel With A Broken Wing http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7144622 ANGEL WITH A BROKEN WING Searching all the stores For that perfect angel for decorating I see Angels of every shape and size Angels galore… Pre-chorus Sitting way up high, I saw On a shelf all by itself Was a cute puppy angel But with one tiny flaw Chorus No one wants an angel with a broken wing No, no one wants an angel with a broken wing… Verse Smile upon its face Seemed so happy sitting there What will become of it Once I leave this place While im doing my shopping Cant get that angel off my mind Just what happens to The broken kind… No one wants an angel with a broken wing… No, no one wants an angel with a broken wing.. Sitting and humming, busy as can be I finish my decorating Placing my perfect angel Out for everyone to see Looking up at me I swear I see that angel wink And with a warm feeling I feel my heart sink.. Yes, I took home that tiny angel With a broken wing No, no one wants an angel With a broken wing.. thanks glyn

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzqAQRbmRXk&feature=player_embedded:-) Warning: If you are easily offended, then don't watch this. The video linked here is a comedy video piece from Justin Timberlake that aired a few years ago when he hosted on Saturday Night Live. I am not going to censor it, as someone as requested, because it played on NBC and probably 75% of you have seen it many times over the years. It's adult themed but no nudity is involved, only inferred. Like Mark, I thought it was funny the first time I saw it and have seen it dozens of times since without going blind. But please only view at your own risk. -Brian

Pretty tasteless and unappreciated Herbie. Please dump your "contribution".
If the thread owner doesn't mind, who am I to complain?
Just to clarify: I've seen a video of this song a couple of times and laughed at it too. I wouldn't have been offended if Herbie had written it himself. It just seemed to me that this thread was intended for Christmas/Holiday songs that JPF'ers have written.

Mark, you REALIZE that as the originator of this thread, you respectfully HAVE to listen to all submissions, right? Well I put this in the MP3 forum already, but since I'm all for SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION, here's mine, written by our JOE WRABEK for Glynda and me! I sang, Joe played geeter, and my friend Haze did the "perv, drunken" Santa voice and played keyboard and sleigh bells! DISCLAIMER: If you're offended by a curseword at the end...don't listen once the sleigh bells begin! http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=996835I Want a Man For Christmas! copyright 2009 by Joe Wrabek I got yer address of the internet I ain't wrote ya Santa since I was a kid I hear ya still make deliveries Well there's something you could get fer me I betcha got lots of girls and boys Wantin' dolls and horses and guns and toys But the thing that would really bring me joy Is gettin' a MAN for Christmas! I want him sweet and sexy and sassy and smart Retainin' important body parts Full of warmth and generosity Just like the Boy Scouts used to be I betcha got one sittin' up on a shelf Just send him on in I'll unwrap him myself! And I promise, I won't ask for anything else If I get a MAN for Christmas! I been good all year but not by choice I just ain't had very good look with boys Met sleazebags, addicts, drunks and crooks and even gave some of THEM a second look I think I've combed the whole damn nation Ain't had an intelligent conversation Santa, I'm writin' in DESPERATION Send me a MAN for Christmas! You don't need to put him down the chimney flue I'll even leave the door unlocked for you There's space beneath that Christmas tree Just big enough for him and me.... He don't have to come from a porn star school A brain in his head would probably do Cuddliness and some honesty And extra points for creativity Buys me gifts that I'm gonna like Don't mind bein' kept up all night And can keep it up for the rest of his life I want a MAN for Christmas! I promise I don't want nothing else If I get a MAN for Christmas!

Thank you kindly, Joe! But you're a CLEVER writer, it's a CLEVER song, and anyone in their right mind would want to do it! I'm just glad you let me sing on it, I had fun, Haze had fun, anything I ever sang of yours was a treasure, so I'm just appreciative that we did this stuff! You are my HERO!

My christmas Song: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10021342Christmas Time Strophe I can hear the children´s laughter Their voices make the season bright When they sing about the Holy night I haven´t been home for so long But now it seems to be alright This feeling that I’m coming home tonight Refrain I hear the Children´s laughter like back then Christmas Time is here again The street where I grew up is all covered in white Children Smiling everywhere Christmas-Peace is almost there What a way to celebrate this silent night Strophe Mama was baking in the kitchen Dad told us stories every year While we waited for the Christ Child to appear I can hear my sister’s voice While she and I stood at (under) the tree As we enjoyed the Christmas harmony Refrain Children´s laughter like back then Christmas Time is here again The Street where I grew up is all covered in withe Children smiling everywehre Christmas-Peace is almoust there What a way to celebrate this silent night Outro My children’s eyes have disappeared My children’s voice no longer here But I can see it in our children, every silent night With eyes so bright as the chandle light And the Video would be :): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tstkx8lSRoI

Not sure whether this qualifies specifically as a Christmas song. I did have winter and Christmas in mind when I wrote the lyric, though. (I don't recall posting it last year in the MP3 forum. My apologies if I did.) Donna http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=8506265Angels In Snow (v1) In the dusty window of a small pawn shop I saw something shiny that caused me to stop An old-fashioned snow globe had caught my eye Though it wasn't an object I'd normally buy Suddenly memories took centre stage And I was a child at a very young age Chorus My daddy beside me, at 13 below Teaching me how to make angels in snow We lay on our backs Did jumping jacks Giggling under a pale winter sky I closed my eyes tightly, pretended to fly With my daddy beside me, at 13 below Watching his angel make angels in snow (v2) The frog pond iced over, he laced up my skates Held my hand tightly as I tripped in his wake He'd do a few rounds to get into his stride Then glide to a stop while he twirled me up high With my toes nearly frozen by the time we got home He knelt down before me to rub my feet warm Chorus My daddy beside me, at 13 below Teaching me how to make angels in snow We lay on our backs Did jumping jacks Giggling under a pale winter sky I closed my eyes tightly, pretended to fly With my daddy beside me, at 13 below Watching his angel make angels in snow Bridge Somber now under a pale winter sky I close my eyes tightly, try hard not to cry I see Dad beside me, at 13 below Watching his angel make angels in snow (v3) Over the years, there seemed so much to do I travelled afar, and even letters grew few He called out my name when he didn't have long But before I could reach him, my father was gone Now all I'd wish, if I could give the command Is my feet once again in my father's warm hands Repeat bridge Somber now under a pale winter sky I close my eyes tightly, try hard not to cry I'm smiling through tears because I see him right now Teaching angels to make self-portraits in snow Copyright: Donna Devine

Oh! Just remembered a lyric I wrote specifically for the Yuletide season. (A Celtic-based free-folk band over here has asked for permission to record and elease it next year as their Christmas single. )
Donna
The Angels
(v1) The Druids of ancient Would bless an oak tree Then burn an ash Yule log For 12 festive days They threw salt and holly Deep into the flames Waited for Sunrise And spoke sacred names
Lift Thus would the Winter Solstice begin With a gathering on hilltops to drum down the dawn So the Sun would triumph over Darkness again
Chorus Deep in the shadows when all were asleep The Angels of Solstice would gather around And quietly sing to the souls in their keep Leaving no footprints on sacrosanct ground
Short musical break
Extended chorus Bring holly, ivy, pine tree boughs Mistletoe to heal us now All heralds of the earth's renewal The ancient messages of Yule ------------------------------------------------------- (v2)
With the castle aglow In bright candlelight Celebrations continued Through all of the night With music and dance And a sumptuous feast As lords and their peasants Hailed the star in the East
Lift Thus would Yuletide festivities start Enjoyed by nobles and all in their court With hopes of good tidings in everyone’s heart
Chorus A quiet crunching of snow could be heard The Angels of Yule were clust'ring outside To pray in the silence of a still-changing world Long after dark in the stars’ diamond light
Short musical break
Extended chorus Bring holly, ivy, pine tree boughs Mistletoe to heal us now All heralds of the earth's renewal The ancient messages of Yule ----------------------------------------------------- (v3) Old traditions are stored In the locked vaults of time Yet from winter’s dark depths A light always shines People gather with families And friends all around Safe in the comfort Of warmth that surrounds
Lift Down through the ages we still feel its worth First it was light, then a holy child’s birth Each evolution creates a new Earth
Chorus Whispering to us to welcome the season The Angels of Christmas are gathering in force As hearts turn inward, finding a reason To follow the trails of Love to their Source
Short musical break
Extended chorus Bring holly, ivy, pine tree boughs Mistletoe to heal us now All heralds of the earth's renewal The ancient messages of Yule

Here is a song I wrote and performed, inspired by the consumerism that inflicts so many at this time of year, possibly forgetting about what is important. Happy holidays! "Wanting What You Have" -- http://www.ttmbandroom.com/index.php?t=audio_player&song_id=1190

Just lyrics, for I can't yet find the 1981 tape that my two little kids at that time sang on with me to my piano playing. So, just "hear" kids only singing this song as you read. Thanks.
"Find My House, Santa Claus" Copyright 1981 John Alan Daubert
1st Verse:
My lights show where my house is Around the windows and the bushes One wreath I made for the front door Please see them from your sleigh tonight
Find my house Santa Claus
Find my house Santa Claus
Please find my house Santa Claus, tonight
2nd Verse:
I left some milk and cookies Thought you might get real hungry Don't think I'll fall asleep soon Wanna hear reindeer, sleigh bells
Find my house Santa Claus
Find my house Santa Claus
Please find my house Santa Claus, tonight
Instr. Chorus End

lonely lyric only (needs melody) “The Holidays are Hardest” The winter’s snow falls softly as the Christmas candles glow I’m remembering the first time we kissed beneath the mistletoe In the morning there’ll be presents all around the Christmas tree But the only gift I ever want is your love returned to me Chorus Holidays are hardest when the one you love is gone My heart just breaks a little more and I feel I can’t go on Wish my heart would take a holiday it just loves you all the time It still wishes you’d come back to me, it still wishes you were mine It’s New Year’s Eve and almost twelve, the party’s going strong My friends are all around me, and still there’s something wrong Another year has passed me by, a new one soon will start It’s not one I look forward to, since I don’t have your heart Holidays are hardest when the one you love is gone My heart just breaks a little more and I feel I can't go on Wish my heart would take a holiday for it loves you all the time It still wishes you'd come back to me, it still wishes you were mineBridge Valentine’s Day is coming soon Don’t know if I can bear Another special holiday Without you being there, since..Holidays are hardest when the one you love is gone My heart just breaks a little more and I feel I can't go on Wish my heart would take a holiday for it loves you all the time It still wishes you'd come back to me, it still wishes you were mine It still wishes you'd come back to me, it still wishes you were mine
