female country...
The Only Kiss That I Still Feel
I got home and fed my goldfish, poured myself a Ginger Ale Watched a dumb reality show, while I sorted through my mail Opened up the weekly paper, that I get from my hometown Though I ain’t been back since college, there are times I miss it now
Mostly it’s just local gossip, and the score of Friday’s game City council votes in favor, of a traffic light on Main Then I saw a young man’s picture, in the bottom of page nine And that photo took me homeward, on the dusty wings of time
Strollin’ on the old fairgrounds, Crown Royal in our Royal Crown And the full moon was a pale white pearl Scent of caramel on the wind, with his fingers ‘neath my chin We kissed slow behind the tilt-a-whirl And my bratty sister was, laughin’ hard and watchin’ us Makin’ faces on the Ferris wheel Maybe that’s what true love is, though that wasn’t my first kiss It’s the only kiss that I still feel
Left my house key with a neighbor, caught a cab and found a flight Memories were roamin’ Main street, when I got in that night And I laid awake till mornin’, in that noisy Super 8 Walked out past the city limits, through some lonesome gates
Then I stood beside a willow, and I watched from way in back And I saw he left no widow, just his mama and a flag Then I saw a lost tomorrow, through a looking glass of tears And a love that might’ve happened, as I wiped away the years
Strollin’ on the old fairgrounds, Crown Royal in our Royal Crown And the full moon was a pale white pearl Scent of caramel on the wind, with his fingers ‘neath my chin We kissed slow behind the tilt-a-whirl And my bratty sister was, laughin’ hard and watchin’ us Makin’ faces on the Ferris wheel Maybe that’s what true love is, though that wasn’t my first kiss It’s the only kiss that I still feel
We were young and made our choices, and then we went our own way His path led him to forever, mine led back to yesterday
The only kiss that I still feel The only kiss that I still feel…

Absolutely beautiful,Robert. I knew that you'd go somewhere special with this one, and I wasn't let down. This one gave me chills.
Do I wish I would have written that? Sure thing...but...I probably couldn't have, 'cause I'm not YOU.
Outstanding....my friend.

You too can write like this! All it takes is writing every single day for about 10 years! Everything about this lyric delivers, especially the hook. I think when you know you have a good hook, it inspires good writing. I hope the music get into the right hands. if it does, I will be hearing this on the radio.

Robert,
This is awesome!
I think it's radio quality, I can almost hear it now.

Robert...
It is mostly hard for me to make a useable comment on writing that hits home on so many lyrical fronts...mine will not be an exception but I would simply say this...your work is very inspiring to me....
