Hi Colin. It is a good deal cost wise but I do not understand why anyone would want to buy four fairly bottom of the range mics. Working bands normally go for better quality as would someone with a home studio needing more than one mic. A vocalist or singer/guitarist would be better spending his $300 on just one or two better quality mics. If you are thinking of buying it there are better alternatives to suit your needs for $300. You could by a Sm58 or similar dynamic for live work and a half decent studio condenser mic for a lot less.

Well Jim, they are relatively decent mics that do a good job in certain circumstances and are worth having in a mic locker. One better quality mic will not always be the best choice for every use so it's often better to have a selection of microphones from which to choose. As you know, different mics work and sound differently with voices and what may work well with one particular voice will sound like crap used on another. The same holds true for acoustic guitars, amp, choruses, drums, horns, the list goes on and on. There was also no mention of "working bands". The vast majority of them use dynamics anyway unless they are in studio but, you know that. As to your statement about a SM58 and a half decent studio condenser mic; around here a real SM58 is going to cost close to US $100.00 and a half decent condenser nearer US $200.00 so you would have 2 mics instead of 4. Of course "half decent" condenser studio mic could be closer to US $1000.00, or more, depending on one's interpretation of "half decent". For those with a limited budget that Sweetwater deal not a bad way to go. That package represents a 10% savings over piecing out the individual mics with that same case, you don't have to go through the trouble of cutting out the foam to fit the mics and accessories and you'll have a variety of microphones for a variety of needs/uses.

I agree with most of what you say Dak.....I have more mics than you can shake a stick at. These four mics are worthy of being in any locker BUT I was just saying that most people in the $300 price range as a starter pack would be better with one or two good workhorse mics of slightly better quality than 4 mics that are lower down the range. Some of the Chinese studio mics are OK for around $200...and we are talking about a $300 outlay so one of those and a SM58 would cost the same budget but give a bit better quality. I sometimes use top end of market mics costing several thousand bucks......does not make ME sound any better....LOL
PS I meant half decent for $200...you get what you pay for. IMO mics are probably the most important part of any home studio or a bands PA equipment...If you get it wrong it will sound terrible even if other equipment you use is top notch.
