" Come On Down To Texas "(Texas tourism song needs ZZ-Top type music)
If you're lookin for a good time here we are, look no further than the big lone star, we say howdy to our neighbors come sit a spell, we got that laid back kinda life that fits us well
(chorus) Come on down come on down to Texas (4 beat guitar riff) you're gonna have a good time here if you select us we're like no place you've ever known, you can party til the cows come home
(music leads fiddle, piano, steel)
We got lots to offer from end to end, from our piney woods to our Rio Grande, if it's waterways you're wantin we've got them too from our gentle rollin streams to our Guadalupe
(chorus) Come on down come on down to Texas (4 beat steel riff) you're gonna have a good time here if you select us we're like no place you've ever known, you can party til the cows come home
If it's dancin and music that you need head on down to Austin to Congress street, you're sure to find somethin that fits your bill, we've got our own opry and Willie-ville
(chorus) Come on down come on down to Texas (4 beat fiddle riff) you're gonna have a good time here if you select us we're a country all our own, you can party til the cows come home

Gary,
What part of Texas would you be advertising with ZZ Top?
I went to San Antone on Western Swing and South of the Border Tunes.
Got to have some food, cowboys, Senoritas--Wide open spaces--and HOT, HOT PEPPERS.
Write on.
Mackie

I am booking my flight as we speak. LOL!
Fun little romp Gary.
You use such elements like, names and areas very well and the picture is clear enough to see.
That, IMO, makes a lyric work (the pictures it can paint with words). Strong simple hook, well placed and used. "Come ON Down To Texas" (No hidden meaning there.)
Good Job!
Doug

Hey, Gary--solid enough, here...Don't know why, but 'select us', in the chorus kinda rubs me the wrong way. Maybe feels a little "proper" sounding compared w/ the more colloquial tone to the rest of it...Maybe just me, & JMO, of course--Al

As always, JMO, of course--Especially caught my interest because I've been thinkin' of pitchin a tune to my local Chamber of Commerce in Cocoa Beach (World famous for "I Dream of Jeanie", Ron Jon's, & 7 time surf champ Kelly Slater--o, and "Murph The Surf"... I'll post it after a little dust off Al

Hope u didn't take my post wrong--I wasn't being snarky--I'm a Texan who used to live 10 minutes from the Alamo...I was just commenting on the IDEA...Out of the box--don't live in Nashville--ideas that can actually be an option for creating a market for a song--which gets u in the door to maybe something else--regional labels, etc.---Didn't mean to offend--& if I was too sensitive, mark it up to to that---Al

It's not a bad write, but the "select us" thing doesn't work--too desperate. Instead of kind of begging me (the potential visitor) to visit, what say you just stick to pointing out the Texas pluses, and stick with the invitation slant. It's the SELECT US that makes this desperate, like--PLEASE PLEASE CHOOSE ME! Anyone who's been in sales a day oughtta know that would drive a bunch of potential customers away with a quickness.
For this to be the most effective write it can be, Gary, you're going to not just sell landmarks and hotels and everything else you mentioned--YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE IT SEXY! How? A sexy melody (Latin combined with Country...VERY sexy). Latin combined with country epitomizes Texas...now go forth and sell it!

Pity. I had good advice for your benefit. Your loss, I suppose. Maybe one day you'll get over yourself and understand what's liable to kill your song's chances of being accepted. You're acting like a spoiled brat, but I can forgive that. Been there.

Hi Gary:
I like this song very much, but just like Twisted Texan am not sure about 'select us' although I see the reason for it. .
Just a thought Gary.
‘you're gonna have a good time here, check our prospectus’
prospectus is made of two words prospect and us
May be a daft idea…
Thanks for posting the lyrics. I did enjoy them
God Bless Roy

thx Roy the words "select us " was used intentionally to tie in the fact that people have a choice when they vacation and to try singing your prospectus would not only be confusing to the listener but hard for the singer, thanks for trying tho

I lived in Texas (San Antonio) for four years and that was my introduction to the great U.S. and music! Love the song and I think that the ZZ Top idea for a tourism song works very well, mostly because ZZ Top invokes images of Texas (including the stereotypical, but very fun, ones like the tumbling tumbleweeds).
Good job, Gary!
