Hey All,

Normally, I wouldn't get into this here, but I'm a bit nervous and thought hearing some cheery words from you folks will help.

First off, you know I have a bunch of medical crap going on...many a song has been devoted to my orthopedic catastrophes, pill intake, etc. All of these issues are primarily and directly related to my underlying condition of Dermatomyositis, a chronic and incurable autoimmune disease. It affects the joints, muscles, connective tissue and skin.

Anyway, I've been having some funky labs and symptomology for a little while now, and ultimately I was referred to a gynecological oncologist. Saw her on Wednesday...and it appears that my current medical picture is consistent with uterine cancer. She took a uterine biopsy on the spot (OUCH!), and I'll have results by next Wednesday.

So needless to say, I'm a bit nervous about THAT. And in conjunction with this news, she is recommending a full hysterectomy. If the biopsy news is bad, we'll do it asap....if it's negative, she's agreed to let me wait til the end of November (we have a trip scheduled to see my inlaws in Florida). Reason being, my Dermatomyositis is highly associated with several cancers, with the top one actually ovarian....so it would be both a diagnostic and preventative measure.

ERGO, after finally getting back on my feet, license in hand...it looks like I'll be ending 2009 with another surgery.

Hopefully, that'll be it...and 2010 will be free and clear.

I apologize if I embarassed anyone with the details...but I'm just sitting here one big Nervous Nelly. Can't focus long enough to write anything....crits, way-overdue responses on my song with Ricki, nothing. So I thought I'd at least turn to you all, to see if you can distract me for a bit while I wait for the news.

Thanks so much in advance....

Beth

That does sound nerve-wracking. Well, you know the JPF crowd loves you and has your back. Prayers for a speedy recovery and a "negative" biopsy.

We're all with you, Beth. I know that all of that can be so scary looking forward to it. Let's hope that all goes well and good health and spirits are over you like flies on a rib roast, girl. I care about you my friend and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Let's have some more laughs after it is over, huh? We could both use some right about now.

Luv ya....Jan

Hang in Boo,
On the positive side, it's quite possible that the "indicators"
will result in the hysterectomy being done while it's still "Preventative".
You know we're "with you"

I'm a newbie on the board, but I know that most of the time the waiting for the news is much worse than the news itself. That still is not much comfort, but there's a lot of people thinking about you, me included.

Poem For Beth

I don't know what the future holds
But I do know who holds the future
By His hands all things unfold
He can heal without a single suture
Bring us through each fiery trial
Comfort every step we take
The Great Physician is in control
And He makes no mistakes

Hi Beth

It's much better to find it in its early stages, 'cause then it is treatable. So try not to worry too much and enjoy the beautiful weather and fall ahead. Healing thoughts coming your way.

Beth,

With this sort of thing, this is the most difficult time. Not knowing what you are facing. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry to hear you have to contend with this.

Hey Everybody....

I can't tell you how comforting this international hand-holding has been. Really. You've reminded me of an acronym a good friend of mine conjures up during times of uncertainty: "P.O.P.T." -- which stands for Power Of Positive Thinking.

"Luckily" I'm off to the bus stop now, so for the rest of the day the kids' activities will hopefully keep me pre-occupied.

In the meantime, thank you so much...

Beth

Hi Beth,

I'm sorry to hear about all these complications from your skin condition. You're always in my prayers, Beth...yes, positive thing as well, where the word "negative" is all I see!

Hi Beth:

Keep your chin up kiddo. You have good reason to be concerned but I suspect the "odds" are in your favor. Of course you are on my list. Be brave and don't hesitate to plead your case to the "Man" yourself. Please keep us posted.

OMG Beth! I'm sick with worry! I will be praying for you night and day. Just my stupid lil' pea brain opinion, but please don't wait to have the hysterectomy...timing is everything. You can take the trip after you beat this. I'm lighting a candle for you now...and it's not going out.

Thinking good thoughts for you, Beth.

Don't be scared! Well...okay, so pretend you're not scared! Watch funny YouTubes instead. I suggest something by Eddie Izzard...he'll make you laugh. Because like Wendy says, it's this waiting that's the worst.

You poor thing, so sorry about all these pesky ailments...and I know you'd rather be having fun.

Beth,
I pray every night for all of my friends here at JPFs but I will say a special prayer for a very special person. From the very first day that I joined JPFs ,I got a very good sense of just what you mean to the folks around here. Its no secret that you are respected and very well loved around here lady.Just keep looking up....thats is where you will find the strength and courage to face this very scary time in your life...it will be okay Beth, you have too many people pulling for ya...they say that there is strength in numbers, and I imagine that God's circuit board will be lit up tonight with all of the many prayer requests that he will be receiving on your behalf...Please keep us informed...

All the best Beth, I'll pray for you right now.

I was at another funeral yesterday, an extended family member. Seems I'm attending too many of late. Part of getting old I guess.

Good afternoon JPF,

Just want to thank you all again for your kind and cheery words. Feeling a bit more chipper today -- probably because it's the weekend, a bit less rushed, and I've had a day or two to digest all of this news. As I said to Donna on the shout box, I'm hoping to squeeze in a lot of fun -- though orthopedically-safe -- activities during this particular window of opportunity. Hopefully I'll be "free" til late November, but still want to make up for all the already-lost time....

Thank you again...I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Beth

Hey Beth,

I came across this quote….

When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

Sending positive energy your way...!

You're definitely on mine too, Beth. You need to get well, woman. I love Greg's Cheerios.

"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Okay, I've gotta take some time here and thank folks individually....

Kevin, yes you're right, it is nerve-wracking. But as I mentioned to someone else, the actual diagnosis is out of my hands at the moment, so I just have to keep the faith and prepare for either eventuality.

Thank you for your kind words...and being the first to chime in on the thread!

I'll be sending out heaps of positive vibes. I think not knowing is one of the worst torments of all.

Yup, the pile keeps getting bigger and bigger. It's funny, in hindsight: I'm the only one of the four siblings with brown eyes, and as I'm a bit of a prankster, my dad always used to say (holding his hands at eye level) I was "full of S--- up to here" laugh ....so I guess that's playing itself out again -- in a slightly-less comical way.

I appreciate the positive vibes!!

Luv ya....Jan

Hi there Janice....I love that quote about the spirits and the ribs. My 8 year old is currently enchanted with the Uncle Remus stories (Brer Fox, Brer Rabbit, etc.), and it's just plumb full of evocative expressions like that.

I look forward to laughing about this with EVERYONE at some point...though I'm not entirely sure what you meant about you needing some laughs now too. Is everything okay at your end?

Gentle hugs back,
Beth

Hi Y....

As I mentioned before, gotta hang on tight to P.O.P.T. -- Power Of Positive Thinking. And also on the bright side, a couple of days in the hospital post-op will get me off the hook doing the laundry. Maybe even my muse will be willing to help out during recovery and SHOW UP!!

Thanks Y,

Hey redwing,

Heck, I'll take comfort from whomever wants to offer it! So thank you for adding your thoughtful comments. Yes, the waiting is definitely the hard part -- and hopefully it WILL be worse than the actual news.

Stay tuned....

Gosh Nathan,

I'm so touched by your poem. It's this sort of gesture that gives me strength during this excruciating wait. Thank you so much....it means it a lot to me. smile

Hey JM,

You're absolutely right about catching it early, if that's the case. I know that in my HEAD of course... But still, trying to do as you suggest...chilling and enjoying the day.

Thank you for your support.

There... I thought maybe you could use some cheery-O's laugh

My goodness Greg,

Of course I wanted to respond to your labor-intensive and color-infused post FIRST, but didn't want to hurt any feelings by going out of order. So now I can say...

REALLY, you are a doll for going to such great lengths to make this a CHEERY post for me. When using the "quote" function, I could see all the work you did on each individual "O"...and while tempted to say "you must have better things to do with your time"....I thought, heck, it's a win-win situation...and gosh darn it, we deserve it!! grin

So thanks again very much Greg. Hopefully all your effort will pay off with good news...

Hey there Wendy,

Yup, I'm on pins and needles here. The weekend has been good and bad...in the sense I knew I wouldn't be hearing anything....but still....it's been a challenge. Kids doing their best to keep me entertained....JJ trying to hurry up with some projects...not knowing when I'm going to be down for the count again!!

Thanks again for your encouragement....

Hi Beth
I will add you too.

You had some bad news. Let's hope it becomes good news.

Even if it's a positive on the Biopsy Uterine Cancer is very treatable. I am confident you will be OK.
