I know I'm not on much anymore, but I thought I'd pass along a little snippet of info. A friend of mine Marcel Jacob passed away last night (due to taking his own life). He was a phenomenal musician who has played with some amazing musicians.
Sadly he was in talks with another friend of mine about doing a new CD as of a day ago. It's extremely sad.
R.I.P. Marcel, you will be missed.

Suicide is one of the hardest deaths to understand and get over. Murder is the next hardest to accept. But why someone would kill themselves, I don't know. Some say it's a cowards way out, but I don't know, if you are in your right mind, it would take a lot of nerve to kill yourself. My sister-in-law's brother slashed his wrist and no one to this day can figure out why, he left no note and was in good health and not depressed. The mind can make you do strange things at times. It lays a guilt trip on those left, wondering if there was something that they could have done to prevent it. Sad.
Sorry for your lose Jody.

Jody:
Sorry for your loss. I know a woman whose son was murdered at the beginning of 2006, and shortly thereafer experienced suicidal thoughts. I don't believe she has had real peace since, and we really weren't all that close. I used to know someone who had one son who took his own life, and many well-known people have done so, including Freddie Prinze and Dave Garroway.
I'll confess that there have been a couple of times in my life where I contemplated it, and years ago TIME magazine published a study where I believe it was stated that about 40 percent of us have contemplated such at least once in our lives. Sometimes people will do this after finding out they have a terminal illness.

Jody,
Very sorry for your loss. The cutting edge sword of being talented as a musician, artist, painter, etc. leads to the equally devistating side of self destruction in personalities. That is why so many of those creative people end up that way. Whether it is the shotgun to the head of Kurt Cobain, cutting off the ear or pistol to the head of Van Gogh, or the slow death by drugs of Micheal Jackson, Elvis, John Belushi, or Chris Farley, being talented has a very dark side to it.
Unfortunately this is an all too familiar story to it. I have had several friends and relations that did the same thing. Been to a few too many funerals from that reason. Hope you make it through all this and comfort the people who are left.

Jody, He was a wonderful musician, I found this on the web: http://www.marceljacob.com/And also his MySpace site: http://www.myspace.com/marceljacobkingofbassHe played elegantly with a tone full of character. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. You and he are in our prayers.
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

He was a very accomplished base player. You can hear a sample of his work on this web site. http://www.marceljacob.com/index.php?http://www.marceljacob.com/pages/content.php
My brother-in-law was a gifted guitarist but was seriously crippled with Bi-Polar disorder. He took his life at 25 during a depression that corresponded to losing his job. The job loss did not cause the depression. Excessive elation and it's counterpart, depression are the phenomenon of Bi Polar disorder. But because the job loss happened During the depression, Lenny overreacted. My little brother Jeff (24 at the time) found Lenny's body. Three years later Jeff took his life. That happened after a long period of Meth addiction. Both use guns and each acted on impulse. I will never own or allow a gun in my house.
There are other ways people self destruct including the one in the line from the song "Whiskey Lullaby": "He put the bottle to his head and pulled the trigger". But for shear tragedy, there is nothing worse than watching a young person throw away, as Clint Eastwood said in the the movie "Unforgiven", "..all he's got, and all he's ever gonna have".
When it comes to health issues, we can't judge or moralize. If one's quality of life is so poor that every waking minute is a chore, then none of us can stand in judgment of the decision to end it. I have never seriously considered it since my teenage angst years. I am too curious about what will happen next. "Will man walk on Mars in my lifetime?" "Will Obama be the next Lincoln or the next Hoover?" "Will the comet get us in 2012?". "Will science and religion ever reconcile?". Will our dominion over the Earth liberate or destroy us"

Jody,
I am so sorry to hear this. I have to admit I was not familiar with him. I did listen at all the links posted in previous replies. What a great talent!
I don't have any wonderful words to quote or anything original to say that would mean a lot. Please accept a simple but sincere "I'm very sorry for your loss of a dear friend. Here's wishing you better days and weeks in the future.

Jody,
Sorry for your loss. And I hope you'll come around more. Life is too short to lose touch and a tragedy of any kind can befall someone without notice.
Hang in there!

That is a hard thing to happen to someone, especially as young as yourself. You probably ask yourself, what could I have done?
I have been on both sides. I hate he chose that route.
HUGS to you from NC~ Kimberly

Hi Jody
Sorry to hear of your loss. Any loss of a friend is hard. We always feel like we lost a little of ourselves. It makes it harder when it is senseless or unexpected.
Be well.

Sorry Jody
That's so sad to hear. I get very depressed and frustrated as we all do. Some just can't bounce back from it fast enough or at all. My thoughts go out to his family and friends like yourself.
Take care Jody hope you yourself are doing well....

Hey Jody, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. My husband's partner also took his own life after having been in the hospital for a simple medical operation. Unfortunately, the hospital placed him on psychiatric drugs to knock him out for the treatment without telling his wife about the suicidal warnings on them. They sent him home after three weeks on these drugs without any other medications to take. He shot himself the next morning.
It was a shock we are still trying to get over. I know this type of death can be more difficult to take because we always wonder "why" or "could I have helped to prevent it." My heart aches for you and those who also lost their friend.
Blessings, Heidi

Thank you everyone for the kind wishes. I appreciate it.
I'm personally doing good, it's just a sad thing as I've never known anyone before that has committed suicide. It's something I've never dealt with and something I've never considered.
As for my not being around much, happily it's due to the amount of music I've been creating. Pretty soon you'll be hearing my handiwork in theaters, on TV, and I'm still in the midst of pushing a new single to radio. I'm currently looking for several interns to help reduce my load.
It's nice when you're finally being called instead of doing all the calling. Which is what is starting to happen for me.
I'll still poke my head in from time to time when I catch a breath.

>>>> Music That Makes Your Soul Happy!
Sounds like you've got it right! The music biz'll eat your soul if you let it! Music is about feeding the soul but the biz is about money. Gotta stay grounded.
I Love your 'Hero Unexpected' tune. Stay grounded Jody... and truly RIP Marcel Jacob. I say a prayer as I write this... Godspeed.
Peace,
Ian

Hey Jody, Thanks for sharing your Grief AND your Friend's Talent with us. I've truly enjoyed what I heard; the sorrow only makes him sound even better.
A shame to lose such a Talented Guy so early in life. At least he had a good friend like you to make us aware how good he was.
He's already missed. Sorry to hear of Our Loss, Best Wishes to You & His Family & Friends, Stan

Take care, Jody - I'm very sorry to hear this. We also lost a friend to suicide a few summers ago, out of the blue. It is very difficult to understand why. I'm glad to hear the music business is looking up for you - you've earned it. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Linda

Awe Jody, I'm coming in late, but wanna add my condolences. I lost a dear band mate and wonderful vocalist to an overdose a few years ago. The music continues, but there's a hole in the harmonies.
Take care, my friend, and comfort where you can.
