Does anyone know why soundclick has stopped allowing you to update your previously posted mp3 files?
The message only says...
Due to abuse this feature has been removed.
Why would they remove such an important feature. Does not make any sense.

Other people are talking about it on other sites.
It has something to do with people removing a song and then reposting it to affect ratings and chart standings. And so many people did it, that they removed it. Guess you would have to rename the file to post a revised version of the song.

Interesting - I did not even realize that.

I, too, had not noticed that. Hmmm...I guess I'll have to make sure I'm thoroughly happy with my project before posting.

Well, I was uploading a song yesterday and I made a mistake posting a different version of it. I've realized it very quickly when I decided to check whether it plays. I immediately went into panic and started to look for the correct file. It took me around 5 minutes or so to find it and I uploaded an updated version without any problem. I suppose in my case it was updating a song which wasn't in the charts yet as the charts start the following day. Nadia

I followed this process pretty closely. Come to find out that the hip hop / beatz crowd actually make money selling beats -- AND songs on the charts sell better. So the charts are incredibly important to them. They were doing something called "song-swapping". Song A gets into the top 25 (pretty tough to do in that genre) and when it "slows down", they just put song B in its place and voila, they are in a top spot with a brand new tune. They then buy promos and push it as a new song and maybe even move up. And so on and so on......
Yes, it is cheating, but since everyone was doing it, you had to do it to to stay at the top. It is an interesting world out there.
The new policy now re-allows updating, but any updated song loses its current chart position.

Oh well. My understanding was that the charts don't mean much. I'm just grateful for the opportunity to upload my music. I was surprised I could upload 11 songs for free, it's very generous. Nadia
