I think this is definitely more of a poem than it is a lyric.I wrote it for my "baby" sister who is three years younger than me.
Sister (C)2009 by Michelle Chapman
I remember riding in the back seat you'd keep me from getting cold a little girl with brown eyes about eight years old
I had a few years on you I was a little taller Toughest girl I ever knew was a little bit smaller
I remember the day mama brought you home I said"take her back to from where she came" But you grew on me so quickly without you,my life, would never be the same
Just not sure If I've ever told you and I write this here in tears little girl,I love you so I miss our younger years
The room that we shared our talks about boys Even our little fights over your weeble wobble toys
You were always so much tougher than all of the other little girls I wanted to be just like you With your big brown eyes and curls
Baby sister, have I never told you It's you that I adore We were tough little soldier girls Living in the middle of a war
But I always knew if things got bad and I'd come under attack You'd come and put your arms around me you always had my back
I'm so very glad that on that day that mama didnt bring home a brother Amy,I'm your biggest fan Your a sister like no other.

Michelle....this is sooo very touching and sweet. I know you said you wrote it for your sister...have you ever shown her? If not, this would be fabulous handwritten and framed and given as a gift. I know she would treasure it always....I certainly would.

Gail, Thank you for taking time to read this as I know you have been very busy lately. No,I've never read this to my sister, but that is wonderful idea(to frame it for her). The words are so true.My sister is one of the strongest people I have ever known, both mentally and physically. She has two daughters from her first marriage,18 and 20 years old and now she has precious 2 year old twin girls, works and 80 hour week and still somehow manages to be one of the best mothers I have ever known. But I guess she did learn from the best(our mom). She is the younger of the two of us but has been looking out for me my whole life.I remember as a little girl, her throwing herself in front of me as a shield, trying to protect me from our fathers rage. She was an amazing little kid andshe is an amazing woman. Thanks again ,Gail Michelle

Hello Michelle, I too, have a younger sister. She is my best friend (as is my husband) and this poem brought back some great memories for me too.
Yes, as Gail suggested, I think this poem in a frame would be a treasured gift to your sister.
Thanks for sharing it. It is a gift to be in touch with your feelings and even more of a gift when you share them.
Heidi

Michelle, that is so touching. I have two younger sisters. Wrote something for them a long time ago. Yours is way better.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Hi Heidi, I like Gails suggestion a lot,and I think that I will do that.I figure that I will buy a nice frame and include a picture of the two of us together when we were children.I really dont know how I would have made it without my baby sis.We are so different.I have the tendancy to let people push me around, but when my sister is around....well,it just isnt gonna happen. She is not mean at all,but she is very strong and very strong-willed.She fought off the people who bullied me when we younger. She even tried to take on our father a few times to protect me,and she was quite a bit smaller than me.I'm very grateful to her,and it sounds like you have a great sister too. Vicki and Glynda, I just wanted to say thank you to both of you for reading this.I think alot of people could relate to this.My sister is very special to me and its a special kind of bond that sisters share. Its amazing that me and my sister went through all of these trials and tribulations together but yet you could ask anyone and they will tell you that we are complete opposites.I guess its a case of yin and yang and we balance each other. thank you again,Michelle

Hi Nadia, Thank you for your kindness.I feel that I have already achieved what I had set out to do,and that was to let my sister know just how much she means to me.I really dont have intentions to try to take any further.I do want to have it typed and framed for my sister.Thank you for reading though, and i truly appreciate your kind words. Michelle

You are more than welcome, Michelle. I think your poem should be published though. It has a universal appeal and I think so many people would have an opportunity to relate to it. I also think it would be beautiful as a song. Best wishes, Nadia

I never had a sister, just two brothers. I was touched by your poem, all too often we fail to tell those close to us how we feel, and that is a shame. Love, we should never hide. Men are less likely to express their feeling for each other, we tend to think it is a sign of weakness, we are afraid to reveal our tender side, the tough side, yes, that is more macho.

Hi Michelle. You are not going to believe it. I'm trying to post my answer from 7:30 AM but every time I click on submit the site closes down! Anyway, I'm trying again now. I don't have a melody in my head but if you are happy for me to compose one, I can start thinking. Before I do though, I'd like to say that I have big limitations on demo quality. I can't offer you the quality of the recording and production Alan has, neither is my music rocks like his so if you'd rather have someone more successful to compose music to your beautiful lyric, I'd fully understand. Best wishes, Nadia

Hi Nadia, I've been having computer problems myself ,so I can sympathize.I'd be honored if you would like to compose music for this.I'm not worried about demo quality. It can always be redone later,if need be.And Yes,Alan is awesome.I really dont imagine this as a rocking type lyric, but more along the style of the music that you compose. So please, feel free to work with this.I'm sure that It will be very beautiful when you are finished. Thanks for offering to do this Nadia.I'm very grateful. Michelle

Hi Everett, Thank you for reading this poem to my sister.I agree with everything that you say.I have a 13 yr old son,and have been discussing these very things with him.He is a very loving young man.He has never had a problem with showing affection or telling his family that he loves them.It has always been one of his greatest qualities.I believe that he is getting at the age where young men dont do that anymore out of fear of ridicule from thier peers.I try to let him know that love is a wonderful emotion and not something that he needs to hide.So far,I think I'm winning. He had a house full of friends a few days ago,and still came up and kissed me on the cheek and told me that he loves me.When one of his friends kinda laughed about it,my son told that friend that he should run home and do the same for his mom.I was very proud. Michelle
