I'm thrilled to report that our friend Daniel Ho -- three-time Grammy-winner and JPFolkster -- has once again scored big in the Grammy sweepstake in the category (71) of Best Hawaiian Music Album. He shares one nomination with Tia Carrera for the CD "Ikena," a collection of original songs sung entirely in Hawai'ian. And Daniel and a variety of artists share a nomination for "The Spirit of the Hawai'ian Slack Key Guitar." I'm also beyond ecstatic to report that my audiobook "The Big One-Oh" was nominated in the category (78) of "Best Spoken Word Album for Children."

Congrats Dean. You're in the same category as another JPF member who is nominated Bill Harley. I bet you guys will be going head to head in 2 awards this year!
I saw about a half dozen previous JPF award nominees with Grammy noms this year. I'll have to look over the whole list and see who all made it.
So would this be your 6th Grammy Award if you win Dean? And that goes along with your Oscar and Golden Globe right? I'd love to see your mantel! hahahaha.
I think JPF has been pretty successful getting our members nominated who have come forward and let us know. Now let's see how many of you we can propel to a victory! = )

I've heard all those albums and they're all deserving.

Brian, you are quite the archivist. This is, indeed, my sixth Grammy nomination... but could be my first win. Thanks for leading the whooping and hollering on this board. Dean Pitchford

Dean,
You didn't win a Grammy for Fame? That's amazing. Well maybe we can help you break through this time around. I am going to run a blurb about the folks who have contacted me about their nominations. Since we have app. 8000 Grammy voters in our membership, maybe we can put someone other than just Daniel Ho over the edge this time around.
You know, of all the amazing things you've already done in your career Dean, I think the best is the fact that you deposed "Thriller" from the Billboard #1 album chart with your soundtrack. That's like a trivia factoid Hall of Fame entry! = )
Really nice to have you stopping in. We'd all love to learn from someone who's pretty much done it all musically, cinematically and heck you've even had success as an author and TV director! I'd be happy just living vicariously through you! hahaha.

Congratulations Dean! Thank you all very much for encouragement and support! Thank you, Brian, for leading the charge and putting us all together. I know Tia Carrere is thrilled about ikena! We're knocking on wood and crossing our fingers!
Dean, I just heard that Footloose is coming out as a movie again. Wow, genius lives on and on and on. I think an all acoustic version of Almost Paradise by James Taylor and Allison Kraus would be cool. What about Let's Hear It For The Boy by Mariah Carey? Or Footloose by John Mayer? It's fun to imagine the possibilities.
aloha, Daniel

Daniel,
Have you actually kept any of these Grammy's for yourself? If not I think you're long overdue!

Brian - No, we didn't win the Grammy for "Fame," but that was an amazing experience anyway. The nominees for Song of the Year - the songwriters themselves -- got to sing their nominated song onstage at Radio City Music Hall during the b'cast. So Michael Gore and I shared the stage with Amanda McBroom (singing "The Rose"), Lionel Richie ("Lady"), John Kander and Fred Ebb ("New York, New York") and Christopher Cross, whose "Sailing" won the award that year.

Wow.. what an amazing night that must have been. I wonder if I can find that clip on YouTube?
After searching, I haven't had any luck. Do you know if it's out there? I'd love to see that.

Hi Dean and Brian,
Do you feel that people write songs of the same quality today?
"Fame, Amanda McBroom (singing "The Rose"), Lionel Richie ("Lady"), John Kander and Fred Ebb ("New York, New York") and Christopher Cross, whose "Sailing" won the award that year."
I love ALL of these tunes, and just wondered if you felt the craft is of equal caliber today, or do I favor these because I have an emotional connection to them?
Brian, yes, I've kept the last two!
aloha, Daniel
