Hi everyone

It's become obvious to me that I am no longer desired around here. I can take a hint I'm not that thick headed. So no april fools or sad tidings (or faking it). I'm done bye bye so long syonara. It was fun for a while, but I obviously have either offended or annoyed too many people (didn't think that was possible). So I'll be off to find somewhere else to share my music and vision. Anyone wants me email me. I'm gone

I completely disagree with your conclusions and your decision to leave -- but I have to respect the choice you've made. However, this is America and you are allowed to change your mind and come back.

If you do come back, you will be welcomed back as a friend. I know why you are upset -- but let's face the facts. You and I are not Mark K, Substudio, Scott C, Moker, or countless others that are talented and have the knowledge/skill to pull off what they hear in their head. Your strength is writing more than music generation -- but heck, you write better than I do! But dang it, sometimes you want more love than you get -- and you take that too personally.

Take a short break, reconsider and then come back. Plus I have a new tune coming out tomorrow -- and you are always watching my back!

I wish you'd hang around awhile. To the best of my knowledge, nobody's "on your case" or upset with you. Your posts have been informative, humorous and sincere.

I suspect you may suffer from depression... a fairly common thing today with all the pressures we, as humans, endure. Nothing to be ashamed of... it's just a medical condition. Like Big Jim said, talk to us... let us know if we can help. Leaving JPF is not your answer. Regardless of your decision, please look in on us from time to time and let us know how you are doing.

Remember, today's music world is the most competitive it has ever been. Don't let it get you down. Hanging out with fellow songwriters, performers and musicians ain't all bad. As a matter of fact, every now and then somebody does or says something totally outrageously funny. Laughter is really good medicine.

News to me as well. But we all rallied before to get him to stay when he said he was leaving, so if he really wants to go, he should go. Rather than seeing it as "us" not wanting "him" it more likely appears that in truth, it's "he" who doesn't want "us."

I can't believe what I am reading, so come on my favorite JPF chum, talk to us, whats going on?

Not long ago I got really depressed and I was gonna give up, but thanks to others here, I didn't. I understand where you are coming from, it gets very frustrating at times. Your challenges, I have had so much fun with you, Derek, you bring the best out in me.

Now I am getting emotional, you touched me, you are one special fellow, I wish I lived closer so I could give you the biggest cuddle.

I have been here longer than you have. If I made a post saying thats it I am leaving JPF. It would go un-answered here with the
possible exception of someone saying who the hell are you. We all have our moments for sure but you are a fixture here for sure. You already know my best compliment is I wish I had written that. You have written two of the best sets of lyrics I have seen here. No reason in my opinion to run off. I hope you come back and hold up your end of being Derek it has become a part of all of us I think. If we lose all of our enthusiasm here what's left for the rest of us?

Derek, Read what Brian posted and think about it. Did you notice that he was addressing the rest of us and not you as I and others are doing? If you are looking for attention than you got it. Are you serious about being in the music business? If you are than this is not the way to go. Look at the problems that Sub has had. Yet he shows no indication of wanting to quit and remains an inspiration to the rest of us.
This is only a social web site and not the end all of our aspirations. Hell, I got over emotional just last night and told rblight to take a hike. I feel bad about that. I owe him an apology. Just because someone has a rant and I get tired of reading it doesn't give me the right to tell them to go away. Did this happen to you? I know that rblight stood his ground which is what you should do.
Never give up. You may not think that you are. You may have outlets other than JPF but to announce publicly that you are leaving for some unknown reason is giving up. Are you going to have a "If things don't happen my way then I quit" attitude in the music business? If you do then you aren't going to get far.
As Brian said it's not "us" not wanting you but "you" not wanting "us". Think about it some more friend. Ben

I am not sure what you need from this site...What would make you feel "wanted" ?? I have started many threads here that got little or no responses. With a site this big, that is bound to happen. I don't take it personally...I just know that many people here are so busy with lots of things....that they simply don't have time to respond to every thread on every board.

Personally, the reason I have not repsonded to many posts here lately is because my professional and personal life has been much busier than usual, and I don't have as much time as I used to...It's not that I don't "want" some of the people here.
I love this site and visit whenever I get a little free time.
Many JPF members do the same....Does this make sense to you?

Do what you must, but know that you're always welcome back here. I've never seen a reason to dislike you. Heck, I don't really even know you. But you seem like a pretty chill dude, so what's not to like?

I'm sure there are a few people on these boards who don't care one way or the other if I post a thread or not, but I'm not here to please those people.

I'm here to give a spark of hope to those willing to listen...

So listen here my friend. You've got a lot to offer these folks. Don't disappear because somebody may have been unkind to you. If you want to leave because you want to leave, then leave. But leave because you want to leave, not because you feel like no one likes you. That wouldn't be true at all.

By the posts that precede mine, it looks to me like people do like you.

Derek, it seems like a bad decision to me...seems to me you had cultivated a friendship with most everyone here, and not only that your writing was on fire with enthusiasm, you had the i'm not afraid to try anything attitude,that's where great things come from, that spirit of experimentation you displayed that broke the boundaries most of us stay within, i hope you keep that where ever it is your headed, good luck with all that new gear,hate to see you go,we'll be here...take care of you and your family...Moker

So Derek has decided to quit....again?
Derek why would you do that? You were posting some good songs and people were really enjoying them. You were chosen for the Mentor critique. You got lots of good feedback on that. I've been putting songs there since it started without being picked.
Most folks were having a good time reacting and interacting to your other post's. So why would you quit?
I couldn't understand it so I went on a search. A search to find the reason.

This is what I found.


You are quitting because people didn't stand in line or come running when you posted a song?
I have had songs that dropped off the page, never to be heard from again. It happens.
This songwriting biz requires a thick skin Derek. Even the Pro's get bad reviews.
Think it over. Then come on back if you are of a mind too.

Wow ... This all seems very dramatic.
Hate to see anybody go .. but, hope you can find contentment where ever you go.

She sent me an e-mail about a year and a half ago telling me that she and her husband bought a condo near where I live. She said that they were coming down in Feb. to stay for a couple of months. I was going to show her some "open mike" places and told her that she could probably get her own gig at one particular coffee shop if she or her agent would send a press kit. She seemed exited about it. I lost her e-mail address and haven't heard from her since. Ben

This may seem harsh but the vast majority of people who post a thread about leaving are all about attention.
IMHO, it's time to grow up, or get help, as the case may be.

Take your bat and ball and go back home Derek, because your expectations didn't get met. Did you think you'd be a rock star by now? and you aren't? Damn...neither are the rest of us.
