{Hasn't Happened Yet..but will, soon-enuf. Figgered I'd write it while he can still Critique It... ;-)>}

I Got The News and I Just Closed My Eyes
'Hit Me So Hard that I Wanted t'Cry
'Know "We All Grow Old" but He Wasn't.. so Why?
Ask it Over & Over Again...

Life is a Cycle from Birth-Until-Death
Each Day we Wake Up & We Hope for the Best
T'day's News Wasn't Good, Left Me really Depressed:
The Death of A Closest Friend

(CHORUS)
He was Young--
He Lived Strong--
He Wrapped Up The World in His Songs
He Was Young--
He Was Fun--
& Now I Can't Believe that He's Gone...

So I Speak His Name as I Raise Up My Glass
Here's to Life That We Live, May we All Live It Fast
So There's "Nothin' Missin'" the Day that We Pass
And Everyone Says Their "Amens"

I Don't Think "Completion" is Comin' Real Soon
I Still See Your Face when I Hear Every Tune
Your Spirit Lives B'yond this Cold, Dark, Empty Room..And
The Death of A Closest Friend

(CHORUS)
He was Young--
He was Strong--
He Wrapped Up The World in His Songs
He was Young--
He was Fun--
& He Meant So Much to..Everyone

I Gotta Stop Singin', There's Lumps in my Throat
My Mind keeps Rememb'rin' the Songs that He Wrote
& all the Stupid-Fun-Crazy Quips that he'd Quote
Yeah, I sure Remember..When...

I Remember His Dog, I Remember His Trucks
I Remember how We Handled Good-&-Bad Luck
How we told each other, "Hey, Never Give Up"
{Add:} So This..Isn't REALLY.."The End"
At The Death of A Closest Friend

(CHORUS)
He was Young--
He was Strong--
He Wrapped Up The World in His Songs
He was Young--
He was Fun--
And His Legacy's Only..Begun--

Stan, this is powerful stuff--sent chills down the spine. I'm glad you got to write it (and your friend to hear it) before he passed on. A great country-music (at least, I hear country music) kaddish.

I am so sorry, Tampa. I know this is another tough one for you to deal with. I am glad you wrote this for him now. Life isn't always fair...but we can be happy that we were here and were given a talent that gave us all enjoyment..and a way to share that passion with others.

This is a very good lyric...one of your best. All I can say is..."amen".

BPH,
Bobbie

Wow. This is great. I'm so sorry about the subject matter though. At least you have a great song to do him justice.

Stan,

So very sorry to hear of your impending loss. These are such powerful yet touching lyrics. I think you outdid yourself this time, my friend. And your friend is fortunate to have had you as his friend.

All I can say, Stan is that you are a good and decent man. It has always been my pleasure and honor to call you friend. Now I know even better why. There will be a prayer tonight for your friend's situation as well as a prayer for you...for being his friend. Bless the both of you.

Alan

Hi Stan,

Really great writing from the heart. It touched me and made me think of all the people I've lost in this life. I am truly sorry about what you are going through but I am glad you got to share this with him.

Best,
Rachel

Hey Stan,

My sincerest regrets for the tough times that lay ahead for you and your friend. I lost my two best friends within three years. My best friend Michael died ten days short of his 28th birthday after contracting the janta virus (spelling?) while he was on a hunting trip. My other friend Melvin passed away from complications with diabetes. I miss them both very much and it has been a lonely world for me without them. This was very touching to me and I know I don't have to tell you this but cherish every second you have and God bless you Stan and him as well.

Sincerely,

Wes

Hey Stan,
You change viewpoint from ABOUT him then TO him in this verse:

I Don't Think "Completion" is Comin' Real Soon
I Still See (Your--his) Face when I Hear Every Tune
(Your--His) Spirit Lives B'yond this Cold, Dark, Empty Room..And
The Death of A Closest Friend (May consider changing title to "The Death Of My Close Friend".)

So touching and sad, Stan, and well done.

It's not often men are willing to express
pain and sadness and you've done it so eloquently. My heart goes out to you.

I don't know you personally, but I could feel you talking as I read this. Secondary is the quality of the lyric Stan, foremost is the friendship, and emotion of the words that you speak. I feel for you sir, for your inevitable loss. As you raise your glass to him, I will raise mine to you, well spoken sir, in a very emotional time for you. Amen! indeed!

Hmmm... I get the feeling everyone who critiqued this didn't read the intro [Linked Image]. If this is about someone specific who is about to pass, then my sypathies do go out to you and them. If it's just about some general songwriter or singer out there... then you'll probably need to go back and add some specific detail to the lyric when the end comes. All in all, it's still a very touching ode to someone still here. You packed a lot of emotion into it; that's the mark of a good writer - someone who can put themself into most any situation or feeling and make it come off as authentic. You did it!

I Apologize for Not Thankin' You ALL Sooner! My (Now 3-Week-Long) Cold's just abated today..&, yeah, I been a wee bit Depressed of late. Sore Throat'd even made it hard to Speak all last week..but maybe it was Perfect Timing--

My Guitar-Buddy, John, was given "6 Months to Live" a Decade Ago. But..a week back, the Docs gave him "2-3 Months"--he's got Colon & Lung Cancer, "end stages". To his Credit he "Self Medicates" pretty well with Bud Lite & whatever's at-hand to kill the pain, and has stayed in really Upbeat Sprits while tellin' the Experts where they can Get Off. ;-)>

I know the song switches "Person" yet I felt it still Worked OK..or at least it worked the way I meant it to. I think ya sometimes "Communicate with the Deceased" in hopes they Hear Ya Talkin'... In this case, fortunately, he's Not Deceased and CAN hear me talkin'. I don't plan on changin' it AFTER he's gone, either, which might just give him a little Solace, eh?

I'll be back Tomorrow.."Full Force".. It's been Yet Another Depressin' Day: I spent most of the day packing 2 Grandfather Clocks we sold over the Last Decade to the Second Wife of one of Clearwater's Most Successful Businessmen.
First One, they had this Palatial House on a Private Island..nicest House on the Place. My Biggest Sale of the Year. Second One, a Decade Later, about 3 yrs back, they'd moved to a New-&-A-Building
GIGANTIC Mansion, Ritziest Section of Clearwater...on the Waterfront. His Wife was Born-to-Decorate. You Name It...This Place HAD It...hadda be a $3-Million-Plus kinda Place...and the $14K+ 9-Tube Elliott Grandfather Clock I found for them remains the Finest..& Priciest..I've ever sold..(not countin' one we Brokered over Ebay a few months back.)

Anyways, they ended up Splittin' Up...heard The Bad News about a half year ago..just got The Call to Prep the 2 GFCs for Shipment last week. She & the Interior of the House are en route to Oregon..guess Hub & her are sellin' the House & Splittin' It. She's got another BIG House to Decorate in Portland area..seems happy enough..but ya overall Know there's a Big Sad Change-of-Heart went on Between 'Em. They USED to be Happy with each other..& they Truly "Had It All"..& You've never seen a More Beautiful House & Grounds--or at least NOT unless an Inheritance gave 'em a Boost..& these were "Working Folks."

She gave me a HUGE Staghorn Fern to take with me..spent the evening chain-hangin' it in the Live Oak in front of the New Digs. It's both Gorgeous..and Depressing. (Musta looked Ludicrous drivin' it in the Jag's Open Trunk across the Causeway at 30 MPH this Aftynoon...it's over 3-feet Across!)

Be back here Tomorrow, in Better Spirits.
Thanks for the Shoulders t' Cry On--You're ALL Wonnerful Amigos, and I hope your Luck and Loves and Health are in The Best Of Shape!

Big Hugs,
Stan
