I've been asked to write an original song for an old-style barbershop quartet. They are looking for a song that sounds like something from the turn of the century. I'm quite familiar with the style and have a pretty good handle on the structure. I'm just dealing with some pretty funky chords and I can't figure out what to call them.
So.... If anyone can help, I'm looking for the names of three different chords. I'm on Piano, in the key of C, moving from a G minor into the first mystery chord:
Base Clef: C Treble Clef: E, G#, A# C
Then it goes to the next mystery chord:
F, A, C, E - common chord, but I don't know what they call it. It can't be an F7 because the E is natural.
Then it moves to the final mystery chord:
F#, G#, C, D# -- which is, I think, some kind of variation on an Fminor7.
Can anybody help?

ok...duh... the second mystery chord is no "mystery" at all. It's an Fmaj7. Forgive me, it's late.

First chords a C augmented 7
C is one E is three G# is augmented fifth and A# ( actually Bb ) is the seventh.
The mystery chord is a G#7 with the seventh in the bass
F# is the seven G# is the one C (actually B#) is the three and D# is the five.
BB nailed the second one.
All the best, Mike
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music
