Whistle Britches (Male Vocal) Patricia Baker, BMIÓ2004
Grandpa taught me how to whistle, I always thought he was so cool. We’d go fishing in the evenings, After I’d get home from school. Hear him grinding into third gear, Long before I’d see his truck. One day I asked him about kissing, And, all that other stuff.
Chorus 1: Grandpa called me Whistle Britches, And, said he knew this day would come. He explained to me the birds and bees, Said it was a part of growing up. It’s just one of God’s blessings, ‘Cause kissing’s going to keep you young.
Verse 2 He said kissing’s just like whistling, Some days you can't get enough. It’s one of life’s little mysteries, You do it simply out of love. First, you take in a deep breath And, then you have to pucker up. If you treat her with a reverence, She’s gonna love you just because.
Chorus 2: I called Grandpa Whistle Britches, Was so afraid this day would come. Before he drew his last breath, He said he wasn’t giving up. It’s just one of God’s blessings, ‘Cause Heaven’s going to keep me young.
Bridge: Heaven looked good on Grandma, He’d finally get to be with her today. Each time I look at his old fishing pole, I remember what he had to say……
Repeat Chorus 1

LOL Tricia,
You lured me in with a great title and I was looking forward to a "tight fittin' jeans" song, and you took it in a totally different direction.
Nice write.

I figured I'd throw ya'll tetolly off with Suzie Cyber and then throw this out at you guys for grins. I told Bill Littleton this one was swimming around in my head for a week. I had to let it out. Thanks, Dawg. You made my night.

Well done Tricia. Loved the flow of the story and how it evolved from the young boys "growing" and grandads "going" (so to speak.) Thought I heard another verse in there but see you brought it to it's conclusion with a bridge. Just wonder if another verse is necessary?? I don't know. Great Job! None the less. I hated new jeans then, but I hate the ones that look used, today! Never satisfied! ------------------ http://www.songramp.com/homepage.ez?Who=Sharon

Hi Tricia,
I've heard the expression but never really knew what "whistle britches" meant! Maybe the chorus should explain it?
Nice story, though.

Nice work, Tricia. It's not exactly my cup of tea (well, in what I listen to anyway - but I might write something along these lines), but it's skillfully done and sure to be an emotional tearjerker for many. The title will pull 'em in for sure. Very creative stuff.

Wow! I never knew I'd get so good a response out of this one. I rarely try to be serious so this one was a stretch for me. I hope the melody with be sweet, airy and rather uptempo because it ended up LONGER than I wanted but I crammed a bunch in here. That's one reason I chose not to write a 3rd verse, Douglas. I appreciate you Kaley, Corey, Douglas, Songbird and Sharon. Corey, if I can tear jerk you, that's a compliment!!!!

Hi Tricia You shouldn't be surprised by the good response. This is a good song. Says a lot with a few words. I love the Hook. It grabbed me right away. ------------------ www.soundclick.com/billrobinson Bill Live with a song in your heart

Oh, and Songbird "Whistle Britches" was a nickname my grandmother used to call me when I was little. She was one of my favorite people in the whole world. I could tell her anything. I barely remember my grandfather but he called me that, too. He'd take me to McDonald's when it opened. Then, he'd gripe and belly ache cause it cost 25 cents for a hamburger, fries and a coke. He called it "robbery".

Oh, and Sharon, I'm with you on the scratchy jeans thing. I'm so glad when they started selling them stonewashed! I'd much rather wear a pair of older jeans than new ones.

Tricia! You mean to tell me that your grandfather paid 25 cents for all of that! Why I know I'm older then you are, and I lived a year on the "Sandy Burger" for 5 cents with coke! It was 1970 I think, the year my grandmother was in the nursing home and every evening I'd go pick up my aunt from her work and we'd go out to the nursing home to be with grandma until bedtime...we'd stop at Sandy's and get our 5 cent burger with coke....best hamburgers I ever ate! Don't mean to insinuate the price had anything to do with the taste....but that might ought to be a thought! LOL ------------------ http://www.songramp.com/homepage.ez?Who=Sharon

Hey, Sharon. I'm going to call my Mom in a few and ask her if she remembers how much the burger, fries and coke was. I'm 46. So that was at least 40 years ago-and, when Spot was still a pup. P.S. I'm WAY older than I type! Slim....about the noise.......who knows? I'm at the mercy of you musicians. I want the upperhand, darnit! Just kidding. I'm always flattered to be able to co-write with you guys. Truly!
