Hello Everyone It's soooo great to be back. It seems I am going to have a little time on my hands, so I am going to make the best of this oppurtunity to reconnect with my musical brothers and sisters. This is my first recording, I think, in well over a year.........here it is..... Please...any and all thoughts and first impressions are more than welcome. And I will be sure to pay it all forward. Thanks everyone “They’re Only Tears”Words & Music by Tom Tognaci https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14015186Verse 1 What do you think, living apart? Have you drowned in your drink? Well, the party’s just started. So how do you feel, you being all alone? It all seems so surreal with you crying on the phone bridge When you sing about it, the cry in your voice Just moves me like I don’t have a choice……. But, to breathe. chorus And all these tears are reminding me why I left behind the insanity So I’ll dry these tears, just wipe them away And it will do me good to remind myself they’re only tears Just water drops…. called tears Yea, they’re only tears Verse 2 Where do we go after the fall? I’m just too numb to feel that there’s anything at all I can’t feel a thing. The pain was in the drug. So addicted to your selfish pull of the rug bridge When I think about it, the voice in my head Convinces me to remain in bed….. ….. and, to breathe chorus And all these tears are reminding me why I left behind the insanity So, I’ll dry these tears, just wipe them away And it will do me good to remind myself they’re only tears Just water drops…..called tears Yea, they’re only tears

Hey Tom,
Great to hear from you again, I've got to get something posted myself as its been awhile! I really enjoy your music, and this one a bit sad lyrically, yet somewhat uplifting musically which I think makes it interesting. It also demonstrates how one can hurt/heal yet still be positive about going forward, rather than completely feeling sorry for one's self. Maybe I'm missing part of the point, but I almost feel like you should be saying, (convinces me to get up "out" of my bed and breathe (live again)! Isn't that why you left the insanity? According to the chorus, you left her right? For me, when you say, "they're only tears," its saying it hurt bad, but I can heal and move forward.
I enjoyed it Tom--a great song, much potential for sure!

Morning, Tom:
This is one of those songs with a story-line that seems to demand the melody to just follow along... and it does exactly that very nicely. I really enjoyed the song and wish you success with it... and all your good endeavors.
Nice seeing you post again. JPF needs all the participation and support we can muster during this especially terrible time.
Thanks for sharing, ----Dave

Good to hear you back Tom. I like it. The only sugg I have is to introduce something into the chorus to give it a shove forward, like a bass for instance.

Thanks SE.....Thanks for being the first. A good point with "getting out of bed" I think, overall, it's a point that I will use on any of the revisions..............Thanks! Morning, Tom:

Vic Hey there Vic....and so nice to see you! Yeah, it needs a band....it could use a band. But for now, it's just little (well.....not so little) ole me. I have been meaning to pick up a bass, though ;-) Thanks, again..... Well written and well done. I enjoyed it.
Have fun!
Always having fun....and you do the same Guy. Thanks!! And thanks to all who have listened ;-) -Tom

Terrific tune—wonderful vocal. Really like the simplicity of the arrangement—nice chord changes in that verse, that really keep it engaging. Vic may be onto something regarding adding just a little something in that chorus to give it just a little extra depth.
Love your tunes, and this one is no exception—very cool tune.
All my best to you,
Deej

Hi Tom Good song - always a treat to hear your vocal and this one has some nice melody lines. I like that minor key in the verse lines - unexpected so makes it interesting. There's room for an acoustic guitar solo in there - might give it a chance to breathe IMO. Nice work Paul

I thought this is pretty good. I like the combination of the "I've moved on" theme but there are still tears, staying in bed and just breathing. Honestly on the first two lines ending with "the party's just started" I thought the character was going to be a little mean, but then it turns around.

Hi Tom,
Good to hear another one from you. I looked the lyric and the guitar ring. For me, I didn't hear enough differentiation between the various parts of the song. What you call a bridge, I would call a pre-chorus, but honestly I think it might work better as a bridge. In other worlds, go from those versus to the chorus, while adding something to give it more of a lift, and then hit the what you have called the bridge one time after a couple of verses and choruses. My take anyway. All subjective though. I liked as is, but I think I would like it even more with those changes.

TOM!!
How are you my friend?? I miss you!!! So good to hear the things that make a song one of yours, especially that pretty guitar playing I always love hearing. I enjoyed this song, but right now I am out of sorts....when it was over...one of your older songs came on, one of my FAVS...so I am sitting here, heart beating fast because I have missed hearing this song so much...."All By Myself" is playing...remembering begging you for this song and playing it in the car and driving......what a lovely memory........it is all over me with remembering you my friend!!
