I do not sing and I do not write lyrics as a general rule however in 2006 I did LOL. I remember posting this on a Board and a Lady suggested it was about child abuse. As a direct result I threw my Pen out of the window as this is about someone who had lost his family and lives in an empty home full of memories, I should add it isn't auto-biographical. Apart from today's circumstances another reason for digging this out of the bowels of my PC is the wonderful Tenor Sax break played by Alexis VAN Eeckhout who on hearing the track kindly agreed to play sax on it. Alexis no longer plays Saxophone and I no longer even have a microphone so any suggestions, whilst appreciated; will just not happen LOL. It is what it is, it happened and after this airing I suspect will slip back into obscurity. Here are the lyrics:

THE ROOM

There’s a room inside of my head
With a door that’s painted blue,
I try to keep it locked all the time,
But it’s so very hard to do,
It’s so very hard to do.

Some nights I just can’t sleep at all,
I sit in the kitchen and stare at the walls,
Then a hand reaches out with a key
And I hear a voice whisper to me,
I hear a voice whisper to me.

Come on in and don’t be afraid,
Sit on the bed where we once laid,
Hold a pillow and smell my perfume,
After all it’s only a room.
It’s only a room.

There’s a room inside of my head,
Where children are laughing as only they do.
I try to keep it locked all the time.
But it’s so very hard to do,
It’s so very hard to do.

and here is the song:

Where to begin??? Gerry... in 2006 you had a vocal I would compare with Sinatra or Jack Jones. Thanks for taking time to give us another shot at listening. ...and you are so right... your Sax Player practically melted the room with his performance. The real "stunner" was that vocal and it begs the question... do you still have it? Age causes change in some... but it seemed to mellow Sinatra and he just got better and better.

As I listened, those perfectly timed little "guitar breaks" filled-in so nicely. If I had to classify a genre... it would be "Contemporary Blues" and it suits your style to a "T."

Is it perfect... not quite... the lyric could probably use some minor changes... but on a scale of 1 to 10... this is a 9 & 3/4 to my ancient ears. Thanks for sharing... and if you still have that vocal capability... you need to unleash it on some more of your work... or start doing demos for those of us who would "kill" for a voice like that.

Wow! So impressive!

----Dave

Thanks so much Dave and I think my voice hasn't changed much possibly less croaky as I have not smoked for 5 years. Sounds pretty good in the shower LOL but then don't we all. The chances of my writing another lyric anywhere near as good as this are pretty remote and like I said my friend Alexis can no longer plays Saxophone. Would I sing again? well its a thought and at 74 why not Tony Bennett I believe is still doing it. To be honest I never felt my voice was any good but following your kind comments I might be tempted. Now there's a thought as someone else has suggested I should do just that.

Once again thank you,

Gerry

I'm left a bit befuddled at how you don't use that fantastic voice all the time :-) This was fantastic - lyrics, tune, solo and vocal.

..ant

My albums "Rhythms of Life" and "Out On The Road" are on Bandcamp, Spotify and Apple Music.

Why thank you Ant so much for the kind comments. As to my voice I don't like it and I am shy about singing period LOL. I am quietly debating if I should get a Microphone again but I need to justify that I will use it and that is the real dilemma. You see I am not writing lyrics and without them I have nothing to croak.

Stay Safe,

Gerry
