The Melody was fun to sing. It has crescendos I enjoy. And philosophy. I always enjoy philosophy. But it doesn't usually work for me in Song. I think the Singer-Character's First-Person conversational style made this one work for me.
It has a Refrain-Type Chorus, a single line ending each Stanza.
The arrangement could be reworked, going to the Bridge directly from Verse I, repeating the Bridge after Verse II. Or maybe it works as is, shorter, rather than longer.

So the end of the bridge has the persona unresolved. In the first verse its about telling yourself not to cut your lifeline. In the second its hearing someone on the radio telling you not to cut your lifeline. At the end of the bridge, its you talking to someone (baby??) else not to cut their lifeline.
Is this lyric really 39 years old?
